According to the St. Louis-based Riverfront Times Tuesday, Tony Glavin, owner and head coach of the St. Louis Lions in the USL Premier Development League, and Andrew Haines, owner of the Major Indoor Soccer League expansion franchise St. Louis Ambush, have begun the process of applying for a St. Louis team in USL PRO for the 2015 season with eyes on becoming a Major League Soccer expansion franchise.

The city has been home to two professional outdoor teams, AC St. Louis in the one-season US Soccer Federation Division 2 Professional League and St. Louis Athletica in Women's Professional Soccer, both of which folded for financial reasons.
