The Rochester Rhinos of USL PRO announced Wednesday they have retained seven members of their defensive unit for the 2013 season.
Goalkeeper Kristian Nicht, who played his first season in Rochester in 2012 after 11 years in Europe, mostly in Germany's Bundesliga2, is the defending USL PRO Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the league's First XI Team and was the team's co-Defensive Player of the Year.
He led the league in shutouts with 11 and had a 12-7-4 record in 2012. His goals against average (0.91), goals allowed (21) and saves (86 in 23 games) numbers were all among league leaders last season.
Defender Troy Roberts, who has played on two Rhinos regular season championship teams and has been a three-time team Defensive Player of the Year and All-USL PRO player, will captain the team for a third season. In four overall seasons with Rochester, he has played in 74 of 78 regular season games.
Defender Georgios Kyriazis played in 15 games in his first season with Rochester after 16 years in Europe, evenly split between playing in Greece's Super League and Italy's Serie B.
Defender Lucas Fernandez started the Rhinos' last 13 regular season games and the USL PRO semifinal playoff game.
Defenders Tyler Bellamy and Kyle Manscuk and goalkeeper Brandon Miller round out the re-signings.
