Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders announced Friday they have signed 19-year-old defender DeAndre Yellin as the franchise's first Homegrown Player.
Yedlin spent a year playing at the Sounders youth academy before heading to the University of Akron to play his next two seasons, assisting on 12 goals in 45 matches on a Zips team that went 33-5-7 over than span.
He also played in the USL Premier Development League in 2012 with Seattle Sounders U-23, scoring a goal and assist over 16 games in which he played every minute, and was named to the league's first team.
