Needham Signs Three-Year Deal With NASL Champ Rowdies

Defender Jay Needham, who spent the past two seasons in the North American Soccer League with the Puerto Rico Islanders, signed a three-year deal Monday to join the defending league champion Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Needham played collegiately at Southern Methodist, then joined the Islanders, then in USL First Division, over Major League Soccer's DC United, who selected him in the 2007 SuperDraft.

In 2007, he led the team to the USL-1 semifinals and was named the league's Rookie of the Year.

After spending the next two seasons in Norway with Alta IF, Needham returned to the States and played the 2010 season in the US Soccer Federation's Division 2 Pro League with the Austin Aztex, missing winning the league's only regular season championship by one standings point, before re-joining Puerto Rico.
