The revived New York Cosmos, set to join the North American Soccer League for their fall season, has proposed building a 25.000-seat stadium on 28 acres of land at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY that will be the centerpiece of Elmont Town Crossings, a proposed development that would include a 175-room hotel, restaurants, retail space and a public park, according to Tuesday's New York Post.
The $400 million project would be completely privately-funded.
The project was first unveiled by the website ThisIsCosmosCountry.com.
The Cosmos will play home games in their 2013 fall season at 13,000-seat James M. Shumart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra Univesrity.
