More Changes At Toronto FC: Nelson To Be New Head Coach, De Klerk Fired As Technical Manager

Kevin Payne, president of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, announced Monday the team has fired head coach Paul Mariner and technical manager Bob de Klerk and has named former DC United defender Ryan Nelson as head coach, according to Soccer By Ives, who reports the announcements will be made official Tuesday at a press conference at BMO Field.

Nelson, currently serving at Queen's Park Rangers of the English Premier League, lead United to the 2004 MLS Cup title before embarking on a playing career, mostly in England with the Blackburn Rovers.

De Klerk originally joined Toronto as first assistant coach under then-head coach Aron Winter and assistant technical director, then was promotted to technical manager in May 2012.
