FC Edmonton Owner, President Fires GM Leip

Tom Fath, owner and president of the North American Soccer League's FC Edmonton, announced Monday he has fired general manager Tom Leip, whose contract was set to expire this April.

Leip joined the team in May 2011 to replace acting general manager Andy Smith.

In 2011, Edmonton finished fifth in the league's regular season at 10-12-6, earning a trip to the playoffs, where they lost in the quarterfinals to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, but, in 2012, the team posted a disappointing 5-10-13 record.

Fath said a new general manager would be introduced to the media next week.
