Crew To Hold Game In Honor Of Urso February 24

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew and its charitable arm, the Crew Soccer Foundation, announced Wednesday the inaugural Kirk Urso Memorial Match will be played against Urso's alma mater, North Carolina, February 24 at Macpherson Stadium in Brown's Summit, NC, with all proceeds benefiting the foundation's Kirk Urso Memorial Fund.

The fund was created to support heart health research and programming after Urso, a midfielder and tenth overall pick of the Crew in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, died in August 2012 at age 22 to a congenital heart defect.

After leading the Tar Heels to four straight Final Four appearances at the NCAA Men's College Cup and a 2011 NCAA championship, Urso had an assist over six games, five of them starts, with the Crew before being sidelined with an injury.
