Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew announced Thursday they have signed Akron defender Chad Barson to a Homegrown Player contract.
Barson, who graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in biology and a 3.99 grade point average, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's First Team as a senior.
He also tied Anthony Ampaipitakwong's team record of 95 matches played for Akron, starting 93 of them and was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection.
He played on the US U-15, U-17 and U-18 National Teams, led the U-19 and U-20 Crew Youth Program teams to national championships, and led the U-18 youth team to the national finals of the US Soccer Development Academy playoffs.
