Wave Washes Over Wings In Annual New Year's Eve Game

Luan Oliveira had a brace and an assist to lead the host and defending Major Indoor Soccer League champion Milwaukee Wave to a 12-6 victory over the Wichita Wings in their annual New Year's Eve game Monday from US Cellular Arena.

Jonathan Greenfield and Israel Sesay each had a three-point goal for the Wave in the win.

Andrew Hoxie led the Wings with a goal and an assist.

Milwaukee is now 8-2 and in second place in the league standings, a half-game behind the Baltimore Blast (9-2) for the league lead. The Wave host the Syracuse Silver Knights this Saturday.

Wichita, in fifth place at 5-7 and 4 1/2 games behind the Blast, travel to the Missouri Comets this Sunday.

Galaxy Sign Italian Goalkeeper Cudicini

Two-time defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy announced Monday the signing of Italian goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League.

He also played in the EPL for Chelsea, leading them to two EPL, FA Cup and League Cup titles over his 216 appearances that ended in 2009.

De Souza Double Leads Flash Over Host Rampage

Robson de Souza scored two goals, including an unassisted game-winner at 9:19 of the fourth quarter Saturday, as the Rio Grande Valley Flash edged the host Rockford Rampage, 3-2, at Victory Sports Complex for the Flash's first Professional Arena Soccer League road victory of the season.

Edgar Flores also scored for the Flash, 4-3 and in third place in the Central Division, tied with the Rampage (5-4) and both being 2 1/2 games behind the division-leading Dallas Sidekicks (6-0).

Rio Grande Valley plays at the Sidekicks this Thursday, then travels to the winless Texas Strikers.

Rockford, who got a goal and an assist each from Elvir Kafedzic and Admir Ljeljak, are now off until they host the Illinois Piasa January 12.

Legends Weather Storm In Las Vegas, Rematch Thursday

Enrique Tovar had a hat trick and an assist and Ivan Simental had a brace and an assist as the host Las Vegas Legends, leader of the Professional Arena Soccer League's Southwestern Division at 7-1, slipped past the Arizona Storm, 8-6, Saturday at Las Vegas Sports Park.

David Hague had a brace to lead the Storm, 4-5 overall and in second place in the division, three games behind the Legends.

The two teams play each other again Thursday, then the Legends welcome the Tacoma Stars to town next Saturday.

Kaazashie Scores GWG In Overtime For Real Phoenix Over Express

Raymond Kaazashie's lone goal of the game, an unassisted play at 3:47 of overtime, gave host Real Phoenix a 9-8 victory over the Turlock Express Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play Saturday at Barney Indoor Sports.

Thamir Alshuaib had a hat trick for Phoenix in regulation and Ryan Hays tallied a brace.

Ivan Campos and Armando Martinez each had braces for the Express, but Campos also assisted on two scoring plays.

Real Phoenix, 3-6, is in last place in the league's Southwestern Division, four games behind the division-leading Las Vegas Legends (6-1), who they host January 12.

Turlock, second in the Pacific Division at 6-3, 2 1/2 games behind the three-time defending league champion San Diego Sockers (8-0), faces the Sockers next Saturday before visiting Toros Mexico next Sunday.

Wings Deny Soul Shot At Third Straight Win

Frederico Moojen had four goals and an assist, Miguel Ferrer had a brace and an assist, and Andrew Hoxie posted two goals as the host Wichita Wings slipped past the Chicago Soul, 18-10, Saturday in Major Indoor Soccer League action at Hartman Arena, denying the Soul a shot at winning their third straight game for the first time in team history.

Carlos Munoz had two goals to lead the Soul.

Wichita is 5-6 and tied for third in the league standings with the Rochester Lancers (same) and the Missouri Comets (6-7), four games behind the Baltimore Blast (9-2) for the league lead.

The Wings travel to the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave Monday for the Wave's annual New Year's Eve Game.

Chicago, 4-9 and in last place, six games back, hosts the Syracuse Silver Knights this Friday.

Alvarez's Four Goals, Falck's Brace Lead Comets Over Silver Knights

Byron Alvarez had four goals and Mads Falck added a brace as the host Missouri Comets defeated the Syracuse Silver Knights, 17-9, in Major Indoor Soccer League play Saturday at the Independence Events Center in Independence, MO.

Jamar Beasley led the opposition with a three-point goal and a two-point goal.

Missouri, at 6-7, is tied for third in the league standings with the Rochester Lancers and the Wichita Wings (both 5-6), four games behind the Baltimore Blast (9-2) for the league lead. The Comets will host the Wings next Sunday.

Syracuse, 5-9 and in sixth place, 5 1/2 games behind the Blast, has road games set for Friday against the Chicago Soul and next Saturday against the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave.

Sidekicks Stomp Strikers' Spirit In 16-4 Slaughter

Jamie Lovegrove and Frank Mbemba each had four goals and Carlos Videla had a brace and two assists as the undefeated Dallas Sidekicks improved to a Central Division-leading 6-0 in their first Professional Arena Soccer League season Saturday after a 16-4 rout of the last-place-and-winless Texas Strikers from Ford Arena.

Jose Olabarrieta, Jonathan Snachez, Dominik Brame and Kyamran Tairov scored the Strikers' goals in the loss.

The Sidekicks host the Rio Grande Valley Flash Thursday, then hit the road for games next Saturday and Sunday against the Rockford Rampage and the Chicago Mustangs, respectively.

Texas, 0-7 and 6 1/2 games behind Dallas for the division lead, hosts the Flash this Friday.

Heat Burns Vortex With Same Score Victory As Last Week

Christopher Williams had four goals and an an assist to lead the host Harrisburg Heat to a 9-2 victory Saturday over the Ohio Vortex in Professional Arena Soccer League play from Farm Show Arena, the same score Harrisburg beat them by on the road last Saturday.

Ben Truax and Evan McCreary scored Ohio's goals in the loss.

Harrisburg is now 3-5 and in third place in the Eastern Division, 3 1/2 games behind division co-leading Cincinnati Kings and the Detroit Waza (both 6-1). The Heat travels to the Waza's Taylor (MI) Sportsplex for their next game January 13.

Ohio, 1-7 and tied for last place with the Illinois Piasa (same record), is 5 1/2 games behind the Kings and Waza and will host Detroit this Friday.

Hoffer Leaves Defending USL PRO Champs For Expansion Team

Incoming USL PRO franchise VSI Tampa Bay FC announced their first player signing Saturday in defender Kyle Hoffer, who started 22 of 27 games last season for the defending league champion Charleston Battery.

Hoffer will reunited with VSI head coach Matt Weston, who played for then-USL PRO franchise FC New York in 2011, starting and playing every minute of all 24 games that season and earning a spot on the USL PRO All-League team.

After the season, Hoffer was loaned for three months to Finland's EIF.

Hoffer began his career in the USL Premier Development League in 2010 with the Jersey Express.

Scorpions Defender Cochrane Announces Retirement

Defender Ryan Cochrane of the defending 2012 North American Soccer League regular season champion San Antonio Scorpions, announced his retirement Friday after playing for six teams over nine seasons to accept the head coaching job at Santa Clara University, where he played from 2001 to 2003.

In 173 career games, he scored six goals, but played in two Major League Soccer championship games, won two Western Conference championships and a Supporters' Shield, and was named to the 2012 MLS Bext XI team.

Geison Hat Trick Lifts Wichita Over Silver Knights

Geison had a hat trick that included a three-point goal to lead the host Wichita Wings to a 14-8 Major Indoor Soccer League victory over the Syracuse Silver Knights at Hartman Arena in Wichita, KS Friday.

Wichita, 4-6 this season and currently tied for fourth with the Rochester Lancers (5-7), 4 1/2 games behind the league-leading Baltimore Blast (9-2). will host the Chicago Soul Saturday night, then take on the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave on the road.

Nate Bourdeau had a brace for the Silver Knights, now 5-8 and in sixth place, five games behind the Blast. Syracuse travels to the Missouri Comets Saturday.

Soul Wins Back-To-Back Games For First Time In Team History

Carlos Munoz (three-point goal, two-point goal) and Bato Radoncic (two goals, assist) had five point nights to carry the Major Indoor Soccer League's lone expansion team, the Chicago Soul, to a 13-8 home victory at Sears Centre Arena Friday against the Missouri Comets for Chicago's two-game winning streak in their history.

Carlos Farias added a goal and an assist for the Soul, who, despite the win, remain in last place in the league standings at 4-8, 5 1/2 games behind the league-leading Baltimore Blast (9-2). The Soul next travels Saturday to the Wichita Wings.

Milan Ivanovic and Lucas Rodriguez scored three-point goals for the Comets in the loss and Ramone Palmer added another strike.

Missouri, 5-7 and tied for fourth with the Wings (4-6), is 4 1/2 games behind the Blast and will host the Syracuse Silver Knights Saturday.

Mustangs Slip Past Flash At Grand Sports Arena

Nestor Hernandez and Bryan Velazquez each posted four goals to lead the host Chicago Mustangs to a 10-9 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Flash in Friday night Professional Arena Soccer League play from Grand Sports Arena.

Hernandez also assisted on two scores as the Mustangs improved to 5-2 overall and are in second place in the league's Central Division, a game behind the undefeated Dallas Mavericks (5-0). Chicago travels to the Cincinnati Kings Monday.

Damien Garcia had a four-point night for Rio Grande Valley with a hat trick and an assist.

The Flash, level at 3-3 this season, are in fourth place in the division, 2 1/2 games behind Dallas, and has a road game Saturday against the Rockford Rampage.

Bolts Blitz Mexico Off Quartet From Reyes

Oscar Reyes fired off four goals as the host Anaheim Bolts blew past Toros Mexico, 12-8, Thursday in Professional Arena Soccer League play at the newly rechristened Bolts Arena at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Cesar Romero and Alexander Caceras each had braces for Mexico in the loss.

Anaheim improved to 4-5 and is in third place in the Pacific Division, 4 1/2 games behind the three-time defending division and league champion San Diego Sockers (8-0). The Bolts next host the Tacoma Stars January 5.

Toros Mexico falls to 3-5 and are in third place in the Southwestern Division, 3 1/2 games behind the Las Vegas Legends (6-1) for first place. Mexico hosts the Turlock Express January 6.

Wave Win Streak At Six After Getting Past Lancers

The Wave next hosts the Wichita Wings in their annual New Year's Eve game.

Doug Miller had a hat trick for the Lancers, now 5-6 and tied for third in the standings with the Missouri Comets (same record), four games behind the Blast, who they'll host on New Year's Day.

Leite's Second Unassisted Goal Is Game-Winner For Wave Over Silver Knights

Marcio Leite had a pair of unassisted goals, the last coming with 2:04 left in the fourth quarter, and assisted on a Nicolas Perera third period goal, as the defending Major Indoor Soccer League champion Milwaukee Wave edged the host Syracuse Silver Knights, 12-11, Wednesday at The Oncenter at the War Memorial for their fifth straight win.

Ian Bennett also added a brace for the Wave, 6-2 and in second place in the league standings, 1 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Blast (9-2).

Milwaukee travels Thursday to the Rochester Lancers, then will host the Wichita Wings Monday afternoon in the Wave's annual New Year's Eve game.

Nelson Santana had a five-point night for the Silver Knights with an unassisted three-point goal and an assist on a Bryan Perez powerplay goal.

Syracuse, in fifth place at 5-7, 4 1/2 back of the Blast, travels to the Wings this Friday, then to the Missouri Comets

USMNT Open Hexagonal Round Of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying February 6 In Honduras

The US Men's National Team officially announced Wednesday they will open the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying February 6 with a 4 p.m. Eastern time game at Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula against host Honduras.

The US, in their last meeting there, defeat the host country, 3-2, to clinch a berth in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and the Americans are 3-0-1 in games played there.

After that game, the US has a home game (time and location to be announced) against Costa Rica March 22, then travels to Azteca Stadium in Mexico City four days later to face Mexico.

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced Wednesday Syracuse Silver Knights midfielder Bryan Perez, who had a three-point goal and two assists in a 16-14 win over the Rochester Lancers Saturday, was named the league's Player of the Week for the eighth week of the 2012-13 season.

Sockers Forward Susi Names PASL's Week 8 Player Of The Week

San Diego Sockers forward Aaron Susi was named Tuesday the Professional Arena Soccer League's Week 8 Player of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting on three others in a 14-3 romp over the Anaheim Bolts Saturday at Valley View Casino Center.

The Sockers, three-time defending league champions, are on a 32-game regular season winning streak, a 29-0 record between their homes of Del Mar Arena and Valley View Casino Center, and, including playoff games and appearances in the US Open Arena Soccer Championship and the FIFRA Club Championship, they are on a 45-game winning streak, the longest in professional sports history.

NASL Fans Select Venegas As 2012 Play Of The Year Winner

After fans voted over a six-week period in a tournament-style format, the North American Soccer League announced Monday Kevin Venegas of the Minnesota Stars was selected as having the 2012 Play of the Year by a 2-to-1 margin over teammate Martin Nunez, 67 to 33 percent.

Chivas USA Parent Hires Te Kloese As Sporting Director For Both Teams

According to a press release Monday from Chivas de Guadalajara, the parent team to Major League Soccer's Chivas USA, announced the hiring of Dutchman Dennis te Kloese as sporting director for both franchises.

Te Kloese previously worked with Chivas USA under former manager Hans Westerhof.

He has led the parent company's developmental teams as soccer director and also worked for Tigres UANL in Mexico and the country's youth soccer program.

USL PDL's SW Florida Adrenaline Signs First Two Players

USL Premier Development League expansion franchise SW Florida Adrenaline announced the signings Monday of their first two players -- Tyler Sharpe and Josh Butzke.

Sharpe played four seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University and led them to the Atlantic Sun Conference title in 2011.

Butzke has played the last two seasons at Bucknell, starting 11 of 16 games as a freshman and 19 of 20 as a sophomore.

Toros Mexico Defeat Real Phoenix, 17-9

Ivan Nunez (four goals) and Ernesto Luna (hat trick, assist) had four-point games and Jose Juan Caballero added another hat trick as host Toros Mexico defeated Real Phoenix, 17-9, Sunday at Unisantos Sports Park in a Professional Arena Soccer League Southwestern Division game.

Carlos Villa and Tom Aishuaib had braces for Real Phoenix.

Toros Mexico, 3-4 and in third place, trails the division-leading Las Vegas Legends (6-1) by three games and will play the Anaheim Bolts at their newly remodeled and renamed Bolts Arena at the Anaheim Convention Center Thursday.

Real Phoenix, in last place at 2-6, 4 1/2 games behind the Legends, host the Turlock Express this Saturday.

Strikers Victim To Another PASL Onslaught, This Time From Mustangs

The Texas Strikers, who came out on the short end of the stick in a 21-1 rout by the Dallas Sidekicks December 15 in the most goals by a winning side this Professional Arena Soccer League season, lost their fifth straight game Sunday, 20-1, to the host Chicago Mustangs at Grand Sports Arena in the second-most goals scored by a winning side this season.

Nestor Hernandez led the Mustangs with four goals and two assists and Bryan Velasquez also added four goals in the win, which improved their record to 4-2, putting them second in the Central Division, 1 1/2 games behind the division-leading and undefeated Sidekicks (5-0).

Dominik Brame scored the lone Strikers goal.

The Mustangs will host the Rio Grande Valley Flash this Friday.

Texas, five games behind Dallas, host the Sideicks this Saturday.

Silver Knights Slip Past Lancers

Bryan Perez had five points on a three-point goal and a pair of assists as the Syracuse Silver Knights got past their Empire State rival, the Rochester Lancers, 16-14, Saturday in Major Indoor Soccer League play at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

Doug Miller led the Lancers and all scorers with six points on two goals and two assists and Mauricio Salles and Jeremy Ortiz had a goal and an assist each.

The Silver Knights improved to 5-6, tied for fourth in the league standings with the Missouri Comets (same record) and four games behind the league-leading Baltimore Blast (9-2). Syracuse host the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave this Wednesday, then play road contests next Friday at the Wichita Wings and next Saturday at the Comets.

The Lancers, 5-5 and in third place, 3 1/2 games behind the Blast, host the Wave this Thursday.

Oliveira, Wave Hand Blast Second Straight Loss

Luan Oliveira had a brace and Hewerton added a goal as the host and defending Major Indoor Soccer League champion Milwaukee Wave edged the Baltimore Blast, 6-5, Saturday at US Cellular Arena, handing the Blast a second straight loss after opening the season 9-0.

Mike Lookingland had the game's lone three-point goal by the Blast and Adauto Neto added a goal.

Milwaukee, 5-2 and in second place, two games behind the Blast (9-2), extended their winning streak to four games.

The Wave travel Wednesday to the Syracuse Silver Knights and Thursday to the Rochester Lancers.

Baltimore played its last game of 2012 and returns January 1 on the road against Rochester.

Sockers Blast Bolts, Winning Streaks Continue

The three-time defending Professional Arena Soccer League champion San Diego Sockers won their 45th straight contest, their 40th straight in a home arena, and their 32nd straight regular season game as Aaron Susi, Eduardo Velez and Kraig Chiles had braces and three assists each for five-point nights in a 14-3 rout of the Anaheim Bolts Saturday at Valley View Casino Arena in the final game of 2012.

Chiky Luna had a hat trick and an assist for the now 8-0 Sockers, leader of the Pacific Division and one of two undefeated league teams, the other being the 5-0 Central Division-leading Dallas Sidekicks.

San Diego next hosts the Turlock Express January 5.

Zach Bautista, Jhonatan Bravo and Oscar Reyes each tallied a goal for the Bolts in their first loss under new interim head coach Jeff Tackett, who replaced former player/head coach Bernie Lilavois, who resigned to devote more time to his duties as general manager and managing partner of the team.

Anaheim is 3-5 and in fourth place in the Pacific Division, 4 1/2 games behind the Sockers. The Bolts will host Toros Mexico Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Wiiliams Guides Heat Through Vortex

Christopher Williams had a hat trick and an assist and Tyler Witmer had a brace and an assist as the Harrisburg Heat defeated the host Ohio Vortex, 9-2, Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play at Pinnacle Sports.

Evan McCreary and Jonn Zapotchne scored goals and assisted on each other's goals for the Vortex.

Harrisburg is now 2-5, third in the Eastern Division and four games behind the division co-leading Cincinnati Kings and the Detroit Waza Flo Pro.

Ohio is 1-6, in fourth place, and five games behind the co-leaders.

Both teams meet again next Saturday at Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg.

Rapids Trade Cummings To Dynamo For Sturgis, Allocation Money

Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids Saturday traded forward Omar Cummings to the two-time defending Eastern Conference champion Houston Dynamo in exchange for midfielder Nathan Sturgis and allocation money.

In the last two season, Cummings scored a combined nine goals in 54 regular season games between the 2011 and 2012 seasons after having an eight-goal, 12-assist season in 2009.

Cummings also has scored seven goals in 28 games for the Jamaican men's national team.

Sturgis will play for his sixth career MLS team in 2013. His best season as a pro was in 2010 with the Seattle Sounders, scoring a goal and two assists in 20 appearances.

Geison Brace Carries Wings Aloft Over Comets

Geison had a brace Friday night as the Wichita Wings defeated the Missouri Comets, 10-4, from Hartman Arena in Wichita, KS in Major Indoor Soccer League play.

Byron Alvarez and Vahid Assadpour scored the Comets' goals.

Wichita, 3-6, is in sixth place in the league standings, 5 1/2 games behind the league-leading Baltimore Blast, who suffered their first loss of the season after nine wins Friday to the expansion Chicago Soul.

Missouri, 5-6 and in fourth place, 4 1/2 games back, travels to the Soul next Friday.

Soul Surges To Hand Blast First MISL Loss

Taking a 10-2 lead after the first period, with two goals coming from Ephraim Beard off assists by Carlos "Chile" Farias, the expansion Chicago Soul, maintaining last place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings, upset the league's top team, the Baltimore Blast, 12-10, Friday at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL to end Baltimore's nine-game winning streak.

Eric Lukin also had two goals, including a three-pointer, for the Soul.

Patrick Healey had a brace to lead the Blast, now 9-1 and traveling to the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave Saturday.

Chicago, 3-8 and 6 1/2 games behind Baltimore in the standings, host the Missouri Comets next Friday.

Express Keeps Surge Winless In Turlock

Uriel Robledo has two goals and an assist and Samuel Saldate added two more goals as the host Turlock Express defeated the Sacramento Surge, the worst team in the Professional Arena Soccer League and its Pacific Division, 9-6, Friday at Turlock Indoor Soccer in Turlock, CA.

Juan Flores had a hat trick for the Surge with Patricio Tenorio adding a brace and Jorge Hernandez adding a goal.

Turlock is in second place in the Pacific Division at 6-2, 2 1/2 games behind the three-time defending league champion San Diego Sockers. The Express travels next Saturday to Real Phoenix.

Sacramento, at 0-9, eight games behind the Sockers, is now off until January 12, when they travel to the Anaheim Bolts.

Kings Bottle Up Heat To Move Into Divisional Tie

Jeff Hughes had two goals and three assists and Eddie Hertsenberg added a brace as the host Cincinnati Kings moved into a tie for the Professional Arena Soccer League's Eastern Division with Detroit Waza Flo Pro, following a 7-4 victory Friday at Game Time Training Center against the Harrisburg Heat.

The Kings and Waza are now 6-1 in the division. Cincinnati hosts the Chicago Mustangs on New Year's Eve.

Brian Ombiji had two goals and an assist to lead Harrisburg, now tied for third in the division with the Ohio Vortex, who they face on the road Saturday. Both teams are 1-5, 4 1/2 games behind Detroit and the Kings.

Bolts Promote Assistant Coach, Goalkeeper Coach Tackett To Interim Head Coach

The Anaheim Bolts of the Professional Arena Soccer League announced Friday the promotion of assistant coach and goalkeeper coach Jeff Tackett to interim head coach for the remainder of the 2012-13 season.

Tackett replaces former player Bernie Lilavois, who resigned from the position December 12 to better concentrate on his duties as managing partner and general manager.

Regin FC Names Harvey Head Coach

Seattle Reign FC of the new Women's National Soccer League announced Friday former Arsenal Ladies head coach Laura Harvey will be the team's inaugural head coach.

At Arsenal since the middle of 2008, she led the team to the 2009-10 Football Association Women's Premier League, 2010-11 and 2011-12 FA Women's Super League, 2011 FA Women's Cup and 2011 and 2012 FA WSL Continental Cup titles, and was named FA WSL Coach of the Year in 2011.

She also served as assistant coach of England's U-17, U-19 and U-23 women's national teams.

Harvey played professionally for the Wolverhampton Wanderers, then the Birmingham City Ladies, where she began her coaching career as an assistant from 2002 to 2006 before spending the next two seasons as head coach.

Comets Sign Palmer To Fill Rocastle's Spot On Roster

The Missouri Comets of the Major Indoor Soccer League announced the signing Friday of midfielder Robert Palmer, who will fill a roster spot made available after the placement of midfielder Craig Rocastle to the Injured Reserve list with a knee injury.

Palmer played at Missouri's Park University, where he was a two-time American Midwest Conference All-Conference First Team member in 2009 and 2010, and the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2008 after leading the team to six winning shutouts and seven overall.

Islanders To Take 2013 NASL Season Off To Reorganize

The Puerto Rico Islanders announced Friday they will sit out the entire 2013 North American Soccer League season to reorganize themselves, but will return in 2014 and join expansion franchises Ottawa and Virginia.

Seven teams will now compete in the league's 2013 Spring Season, then the league will return to eight teams for the 2013 Fall Season, when the New York Cosmos join the league.

NWSL Announces Date, Location, Format For First College Draft

The National Women's Soccer League announced Friday they will hold their inaugural College Draft January 18 during the annual convention of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in Indianapolis, IN.

The eight charter teams will make a total of 32 selections over the four-round process.

A blind draw will take place to determine the drafting order, then players will be drafted by teams in a "snake" fashion (team selecting first in the first round selects eighth in the second round, etc.).

Players who completed their collegiate eligibility in 2012 will be available for selection.

Those players who have been out of college for over a year, former professional players, and those currently overseas and out of contract will be considered free agents, available for any franchise to sign during a soon-to-be-announced window of opportunity.

The national soccer federations of the US, Canada and Mexico, who have stakes in the league, will allocate players to the teams at a date to be announced soon.

Revolution Signs Caldwell As Homegrown Player

Major League Soccer's New England Revolution announced the signing of midfielder Scott Caldwell as their latest Homegrown Player.

Caldwell, a native of Braintree, MA, had 20 goals and 22 assists in 88 games over four seasons at the University of Akron, 66 of which he started.

In his final season in 2012, he started all 22 games and had a career-high nine goals and a team-high ten assists.

He led the Zips to a 2010 NCAA College Cup championship and was a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American, the Mid-American Conference's 2012 Player of the Year, a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, and a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Caldwell also played on the US U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 national teams and was in the US U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, FL for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years.

Caldwell trained last season with New England's first team.

He is the second Homegrown signing in Revolution history behind Diego Fagundez, who signed in 2010.

MLS, adidas Unveil New PRIME Match Ball For 2013 Season

Major League Soccer and adidas Thursday unveiled the new model of the popular PRIME ball that will become the official game ball for the 2013 season.


The ball's design is inspired by the league's Philip F. Anschutz Trophy, given to the winner of MLS Cup, and features the league's official colors of blue, green and white.

The ball can be purchased for $150 on www.MLSGear.com and www.MLSgearCanada.ca.

USL PDL's Rams Name Costa Head Coach

The expansion Real Boston Rams of the USL Premier Development League announced Thursday Jim Costa, currently assistant coach of the men's team at NCAA Division III Lesley University, will be the team's inaugural head coach.

At Lesley, the team has advanced to four conference finals, three East Coast Athletic Conference tournament appearances, and a NCAA tournament in six seasons and, in the last four seasons, have a record of 57-19-6.

Costa brings over 20 years of coaching experience to Real Boston, as well as experience playing college and semi-pro soccer.

USWNT Announces Second Game Versus Scotland In Nashville February 13

The US Women's National Team announced Thursday they will now play a second game against Scotland February 13 at LP Field in Nashville, home to the NFL's Tennessee Titans.

It will be the first time since 2004 the USWNT has played there.

The USWNT opens their 2013 calendar against Scotland four days earlier -- February 9 -- at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, FL, home to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.

Toronto FC Wins Agbossoumonde's Rights In Lottery

Toronto FC, the worst team in Major League Soccer in 2012, won the rights to acquire defender Gabe Agbossoumonde Thursday against five other teams in a weighted lottery held at MLS headquarters in New York.

Toronto (57.3 percent) had the best odds of winning the lottery, followed by FC Dallas (25.9), the two-time defending Eastern Conference champion Houston Dynamo (9.5), Seattle Sounders (five), the two-time defending MLS Cup and Western Conference champion Los Angeles Galaxy (1.9) and the Supporters Shield champion San Jose Earthquakes (0.4).

Born in Togo, Africa, Agbossoumonde scored a goal over 17 appearances last season for the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League.

He was named US Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year in 2010 and was a member of the U-17 and U-20 national teams.

He made his professional debut in 2009 with Miami FC Blues in USL First Division, where he played in nine games, before being loaned to Sporting Braga, Estoril Praia, Djurgarden and Eintracht Frankfurt II.

Fire Announces Departure Of Posada At Year's End

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced Wednesday, in an open letter to fans on their website written by team owner Andrew Hauptman, Julian Posada will resign his position as club president at the end of the year "to pursue other opportunities".

Until a new president is named, president of soccer operations Javier Leon and chief operating officer Atul Khosal will take over Posada's duties.

Strikers To Play 2013 NASL Season At Lockhart Stadium

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League announced an agreement Wednesday with the Fort Lauderdale City Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration that will allow them to play the 2013 season at Lockhart Stadium.

The Strikers will host 15 regular season home games and, hopefully, will be selected to host at least one game in the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Galaxy Set To Sign Zardes To Homegrown Player Deal

According to sources close to the two-time defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy Wednesday, the team will soon sign Cal State-Bakersfield forward Gyasi Zardes to a Homegrown Player deal.

Born to Brazilian parents, Zardes has played three seasons with the Roadrunners and has scored 38 goals and 18 assists in 56 games, with 15 goals and nine assists coming in 2012.

He is a two-time Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Year (2011, 2012) and was on the 15-player short list for the 2012 Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best player in college soccer, after the 2011 season.

Zardes also played for the Galaxy Academy's U-18 and U-20 during his time there from 2008 to 2010.

USMNT Finishes 2012 Ranked 28th By FIFA; Spain Best In The World For Fifth Straight Year

The US Men's National Team finished 2012 as the 28th-best team in the world in the final FIFA/Coca-Cola rankings, released Wednesday, and now look ahead to a 2013 calendar that includes the possibility of earning a berth in the field for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil by winning the final round of CONCACAF qualifying, beginning with a February 6 visit to Honduras.

The US fell one point from the November world ranking.

Before playing in the Hexagonal Round with Honduras, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama, the US will open their 2013 season with a friendly game against Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston January 29 to being the US' 100th anniversary in international soccer.

For the fifth year in a row, however, Spain finishes as the number one team in the world, with Germany and Argentina holding their spots at second and third in the final top ten of 2012.

Italy moved up one spot to fourth, Colombia climbed three spots to fifth, England stayed unchanged at sixth, Portugal fell three to seventh, the Netherlands dropped one to eighth, and Russia and Croatia rounded out the list at ninth and tenth.

The first rankings for 2013 will be released January 16.

Seattle NWSL Franchise Gets Name: Reign FC

Let the "Reign" fall in Seattle!
 
Seattle's franchise in the new eight-team National Women's Soccer League, beginning play in 2013, was christened Seattle Reign FC at a news conference Wednesday.

As their logo shows, their colors will be white, platinum, royal blue and midnight black.

Amy Carnell, who served as general manager for the Seattle Sounders Women in the USL W-League, was named to the same position with the Reign.

The Reign will join the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, (Washington) DC Spirit and the Western New York Flash as inaugural franchises.

The team will make announcements in the future concerning such matters as naming a head coach and their home pitch.








Strikers Re-Sign Herron For 2013 With 2014 Club Option

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League announced Wednesday they have re-signed forward Andy Herron for the 2013 season with a club option for 2014.

In 18 games, 16 of them starts, last season, Herron had eight goals and two assists and was named the Week 2 Offensive Player of the Week.

He played from 2004 to 2006, and again in 2008, for Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, who he led to a 2006 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup title against MLS' Los Angeles Galaxy in the championship game.

Scorpions Re-Sign Cochrane, Add Martin, Husic For 2013

The defending North American Soccer League regular season champion San Antonio Scorpions announced Wednesday they have re-signed defender Ryan Cochrane and added defender Lyle Martin and midfielder Edin Husic for the 2013 season.

Cochrane started all 25 games for the team last season, scoring a goal and three assists.

Martin, last at Beijing Baxy of China Division One, was drafted by Chivas USA in the 2007 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft and played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in USL First Division from 2007 to 2009.

With Vancouver, he was their Newcomer of the Year in 2007 and he led them to the USL-1 Championship in 2008.

Husic, from Bosnia, played there for FK Sarajevo and three times for their national team.

DC United Re-Signs Russell

Major League Soccer's DC United announced the re-signing Wednesday of defender Robbie Russell, who started 16 of 19 games in his first season with them following being traded by Real Salt Lake in November 2011 in exchange for United's third round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

In five MLS seasons, Russell has started 84 of 97 games and has two goals and nine assists.

Before coming to MLS, Russell played for teams in Iceland's and Norway's first division and the Danish Superligaen.

CONCACAF Announces CCL Quarterfinal Draw Schedules For MLS Teams

CONCACAF Wednesday announced the quarterfinal round schedules for the three Major League Soccer teams remaining in the 2012-13 Champions League tournament -- the Houston Dynamo, Seattle Sounders and the two-time defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Dynamo, two-time Eastern Conference champions, will host Mexico's Santos Laguna in the first leg of their two-leg, aggregate-goal series at BBVA Compass Stadium March 5, then travel for the second leg March 13.

The Sounders will play at Mexico's UANL Tigres March 6, then welcome them to CenturyLink Field March 12.

Finally, the Galaxy head to Costa Rica's Herediano March 7 before returning to The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA March 13.

The other quarterfinal round series pits Mexico's Monterrey against Guatemala's Xelaju, with that winner facing the winner of the Galaxy-Herediano series in the semifinals April 2-4 and 9-11.

The Dynamo-Santos winner gets the Galaxy-Tigres winner in the other semifinal series.

FC Dallas Signs Baladez As Homegrown Player

Major League Soccer's FC Dallas announced the signing Wednesday of Mesquite, TX native and forward Bradlee Baladez to a Homegrown Player contract, their eighth such signing in team history.

Baladez completed his junior season at South Carolina, where, in three seasons, he has been an All-Conference USA selection and has scored 17 goals and eight assists and started 59 games.

NWSL's Portland Thorns FC Name Cone Head Coach

Portland Thorns FC of the new National Women's Soccer League announced Wednesday former North Carolina and US Women's National Team player Cindy Parlow Cone will be their inaugural head coach.

Cone played for the Tar Heels from 1995 to 1998, scoring 68 goals and 53 assists, and was named a four-time All-American and a two-time Hermann Trophy winner in 1996 and 1997.

She later returned to North Carolina as their assistant coach in 2007, leading them to 2009 and 2012 NCAA Women's College Cup championship titles.

As a USMNT player from 1999 to 2004, she had 75 goals and 35 assists in 135 career games and played on the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup championship team and the 1996 and 2004 Olympic gold medal-winning teams.

The 1996 Olympic team was inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Cone played three professional soccer seasons with the Atlanta Beat in Women's United Soccer Association from 2001 to 2003, leading them to the playoffs each season.

Legends Forward Barbirato Named Week 7 PASL Player Of The Week

The Professional Arena Soccer League announced Tuesday forward Rodrigo Barbirato of the Las Vegas Legends, who scored a hat trick in Saturday's 10-4 win over Real Phoenix, was named their Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2012-13 season.

In five games this season, he has 11 goals and three assists.

DC United Releases King, Chabala

Major League Soccer's DC United announced Tuesday they have released midfielder Stephen King and defender Michael Chabala.

King started 28 of 47 games since joining the team in April 2010 and had a goal and two assists.

Chabala started two of three games since coming to DC via a trade with the Portland Timbers in return for DC's natural first round 2014 MLS Supplemental Draft pick.

Red Bulls Sign Meara To New Deal

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls Tuesday signed goalkeeper Ryan Meara to a new deal.

Despite his season ending August 23 following hip surgery, Meara started 18 games last season and finished 9-5-4 with a 1.50 goals against average.

He also set a league and team record for longest shutout streak by a rookie goalkeeper at 321 minutes, while the team, during that time, won five straight games from April 28 to May 19.

Sounders' Alfonso Goes To West Ham For Training Stint

Midfielder Osvaldo Alonso of Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders will take some time to train with an English Premier League team for a week, this time West Ham United, according to the Sounders Tuesday.

Alonso trained in 2010 with Everton.

He played a team-high 2,688 minutes in MLS last season and was named to the All-Star Game roster and the MLS Best XI.

Brazilian Forward Silva Signed By FC Dallas

Major League Soccer's FC Dallas announced the signing Tuesday of Brazilian forward Wesley "Pipico" Silva to a contract.

Silva last played seven games as a substitute for Brazil's Vasco de Gama in 2012. He also played at home for Floresta, Cabofriense, Bangu and Macae in his career.

In 45 games between the 2010 and 2012 Brazilian Carioca Serie A and Serie C Championships, Silva scored 19 goals and 26 assists.

Timbers Win Lottery, Acquire Ex-US International Star Fehr

Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers won a weighted lottery Tuesday at league headquarters in New York to acquire the services of former US international defender/midfielder Mobi Fehr.

Fehr was a member of the US U-17, U-18 and U-20 player pools.

The Timbers, at 83.1 percent, had the best chance of winning the lottery over the other two entrants -- the Seattle Sounders (14.5 percent) and San Jose Earthquakes (1.4 percent).

MISL Names Week 7 Player, Team Of The Week

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced Tuesday Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg, who stopped 30 of 31 shots in their 9-2 victory last Friday over the Chicago Soul, was named the league's Player of the Week for the seventh week of the 2012-13 season.

SKC Signs Beiler As Designated Player

As expected, Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced Tuesday they have signed forward Claudio Bieler as their fifth Designated Player in history.

Bieler, born in Argentina but having dual citizenship in Ecuador, last scored 57 goals in 110 Ecuadoran Serie A games for LDU Quito and 71 in 155 games over all competitions.

MLS Announces 2013 First Kick Home Openers

A precursor to the release of the full 2013 schedule, Major League Soccer Tuesday announced the First Kick home season-opening games for all 19 franchises, to be played between March 2, with six games scheduled, and March 23, when the New England Revolution open at Gillette Stadium against FC Dallas.

Times for games, along with the complete 2013 schedule, will be released in a few weeks.

Three MLS Teams Enter Lottery For Rights To Fehr

Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes will take part in a weighted lottery Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern time to determine which franchise will acquire the rights to former US U-17 National Team defender Mobi Fehr.

Fehr, who signed a league contract November 14, was born in New York, but has citizenship in Japan and Switzerland because of his parents. His family moved to Tokyo when he was six and Fehr played at Tokyo Verdy and Switzerland's FC Basel.

The Timbers, where he trained for three weeks in October and November, have the best chances of gaining his services at 83.1 percent, with the Sounders second (15.5) and the Earthquakes last (1.4).

No other MLS teams chose to take part in the lottery.

FCD Fires Hernandez As Assistant Coach After Three Weeks

Major League Soccer's FC Dallas confirmed news Monday that had been reported on since Friday -- the firing of former player-turned-assistant coach Daniel Hernandez after only three weeks on the job.

No reason was given for his firing.

After returning from Mexico in September 2009 and playing for over three seasons with FC Dallas, where he was reunited with head coach Schellas Hyndman, his head coach at Southern Methodist University, Hernandez announced his retirement as a player after the 2012 season and accepted the assistant coaching position.

2013 Opening Games For US Men, Women Announced

The US Men's National Team, celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2013, announced Monday they will open the new year's schedule by hosting Canada January 29 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.

The US last played their northern neighbors in a scoreless draw in June to celebrate the similar anniversary for Canada's national team.

This will be the US team's first game at the new home of Major League Soccer's two-time defending Eastern Conference champion Houston Dynamo, but the fourth time they've played games in Houston.

Against Canada, the US has a 15-game unbeaten streak since last losing to them in April 1985, are 13-8-10 overall against them, and are 10-1-8 on US soil.

The game will also serve as a tune-up before the US opens the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil February 6 against Honduras.

Also, Saturday, the US Women's National Team, who ended 2012 as the number-one ranked team in the world, announced their 2013 season opener will take place February 9 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, FL, home to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, against Scotland.

SKC To Name New Designated Player Tuesday

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced Monday they will hold a news conference at Livestrong Sporting Park Tuesday to name their latest Designated Player and their fifth in team history.

Speculation has the newest member of the team being Argentinian forward Claudio Bieler.

Red Bulls Add Brazilian Midfielder Juninho

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced the signing Monday of Brazilian midfielder Juninho, who last played for Brazil's Vasco de Gama, scoring 14 goals over 50 games in his second stint with the team.

He also has played for Al-Gharafa in Qatar and Olympique Lyonnais in France.

Juninho scored seven goals in 47 games with his country's men's national team and was part of the 2006 FIFA World Cup team before retiring from international competition after the tournament.

Crew Re-Signs O'Rourke

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew announced Monday they have re-signed defender Danny O'Rourke for the 2013 season.

Limited to playing in six games in 2011 due to numerous injuries, O'Rourke played in 21 games in 2012.

The fourth overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, O'Rourke has also played in his career with the New York Red Bulls, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC, where he was traded to Columbus, along with goalkeeper Will Hesmer, in exchange for a partial allocation after the 2006 MLS Expansion Draft.

O'Rourke was a member of Columbus' 2008 and 2009 MLS Supporters Shield-winning teams and their 2008 MLS Cup championship team.

Jalomo Brace Gives Flash Win Over Rampage

Juan Jalomo had a brace and Armando Teran, Jorge Quiroz and Edgar Flores each had a goal and an assist as the host Rio Grande Valley Flash defeated the Rockford Rampage, 7-1, Sunday in Professional Arena Soccer League play at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, TX.

Rockford's lone goal came off a pass from Adnan Ejupovic to Semir Mesanovic.

RGV (3-2) and Rockford (4-3) are tied for second place in the Central Division, two games behind the undefeated Dallas Sidekicks (5-0).

The Flash are off until they travel to the Chicago Mustangs December 28, but Rockford returns to action this Saturday when they host the Texas Strikers.

Rodriguez, Caballero Team For Nine Goals In Toros Rout Of Stars

Guillermo Rodriguez had five goals and Juan Jose Caballero posted four goals and assisted on a fifth as host Toros Mexico routed the Tacoma Stars, 15-3, Sunday in Professional Arena Soccer League play from Unisantos Sports Park.

Mark Lee, Ian Weinberg and Lonnie Wells scored Tacoma's points.

Toros Mexico, 2-4 on the season, is in third place in the Southwestern Division, 3 1/2 games behind the Las Vegas Legends (6-1). They will host Real Phoenix next Sunday.

Tacoma, also 2-4 but fourth in the Pacific Division, is 4 1/2 games behind the league's three-time defending champion San Diego Sockers (7-0) and will travel to the Legends January 4.

Campos Hits GWG In OT As Express Edge Surge

Ivan Campos scored his second goal of the game unassisted 1:09 into overtime and the Turlock Express edged the Sacramento Surge, 7-6, Friday in Professional Arena Soccer League play at Off The Wall Indoor Soccer in Sacramento.

Jesse Horta added a brace for Turlock, 4-2 and in second place in the Pacific Division, 2 1/2 games behind the three-time defending league champion San Diego Sockers (7-0).

Sacramento is winless in the first six games of its existence and are 6 1/2 games out of first place in the division.

However, both teams face off this Friday in Turlock, CA.

Chiles Goes Wild Again For Sockers Over Stars

Kraig Chiles had five goals and an assist as the three-time defending Professional Arena Soccer League champion San Duego Sockers won their 30th straight regular season game, their 28th game at home, and their US professional sports record 44th overall game with a 14-4 rout of the Tacoma Stars Saturday at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

The Sockers led the Pacific Division at 7-0 and host the Anaheim Bolts next Saturday.

Rodrigi Barbirato led the Professional Arena Soccer League's Southwestern Division-leading Las Vegas Legends with a hat trick in a 10-4 victory over Real Phoenix Saturday at Orleans Arena.

Matt Marek, Ami Hanan, Thamir Ashuaib and Vlastimir Davidovic all scored for Phoenix.

Las Vegas in now 6-1 and will play at the Arizona Storm December 29.

Real Phoenix, 2-5 and tied for third in the division with Toros Mexico (1-4), faces Mexico on the road next Saturday.

Sttorm Rolls Over Bolts In Lilavois' Final Game As Player-Coach

David Hague posted four goals and Mitch Garica had a hat trick as the host Arizona Storm outweathered the Anaheim Bolts, 12-6, Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play from the Arizona Sports Complex.

It was the final game for Bolts player-head coach Bernie Lilavois, who recently announced his retirement to concentrate on his duties with the team as general manager.

Lilavois led Anaheim with two goals and two assists.

The Storm are 4-4, in second place in the Southwestern Division, and are 2 1/2 games behind the Las Vegas Legends (6-1), who Arizona hosts December 29.

Anaheim, 3-4 and tied for third in the Pacific Division with the Tacoma Stars (2-3), four games behind the division-leading and three-time defending champion San Diego Sockers (7-0), who they travel to next Saturday.

Sidekicks Sideswipe Strikers To Stay Undefeated

Robert Luevano, Shaun David, Frank Mbemba and Michael Uremanek had hat tricks as the host Dallas Sidekicks thrashed the Texas Strirkers, 21-1, Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play from the Allen Events Center in Allen, TX.

Jose Olabarrieta scored Texas' lone goal off an assist from Chris Meyer late in the fourth quarter.

Dallas currently leads the league's Central Division with a 5-0 record, while Texas is winless in four games this season and 4 1/2 games behind the Sidekicks in the division.

Both teams will meet again December 29 at the Strikers, but, before then, Texas travels to the Rockford Rampage next Saturday and the Chicago Mustangs next Sunday.

Kings Rout Vortex Off Henderson Quartet

Joshua Henderson had four goals and teammates Salvatore Fiore and Jeff Hughes had matching braces as the Cincinnati Kings routed the host Ohio Vortex, 10-2, Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play from Pinnacle Sports.

Israel James scored all of Ohio's points.

Cincinnati is 5-1 and in second place in the Eastern Division standings, a half-game behind the Detroit Waza Flo Pro (6-1). The Kings next host the Harrisburg Heat this Friday.

Dominic Scicluna had a brace and brother Tino, along with Michael Grba, Miki Djerisilo and Costea Decu, scored goals as the Detroit Waza Flo Pro defeated the host Harrisburg Heat, 6-3, Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play from Farm Show Arena.

Blast Improves To 9-0 On Near Shutout Of Comets

Lucia Gonzaga scored two goals and the Baltimore Blast held the visiting Missouri Comets scoreless for three quarters, but withstood a late onslaught to defeat them, 15-9, Saturday in Major Indoor Soccer League play at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore.

Lucas Rodriguez scored a three-point goal and Ryan Junge, Brian Harris and Byron Alvarez each added goals in the Comets' comeback effort.

The Blast, now 9-0, travel this Friday to the expansion Chicago Soul and to the defending league champion Milwaukee Eave next Saturday.

USWNT Ends 2013 Season With Win Over China

Abby Wambach scored two goals, Megan Rapinoe had a goal and an assist, and Sydney Leroux posted another goal as the US Women's National Team, the world's top-ranked team, ended their 2012 calendar season with a 28-1-3 record and a 2012 London Olympics gold medal after defeating China, 4-1, Saturday in the final game of a three-game series at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.

The game was also the final match for USWNT interim head coach Jill Ellis, who went 5-0-2 in seven games of the team's Fan Tribute Tour following the abrupt resignation of former head coach Pia Sundhage.

Tom Sermanni will take over head coaching duties January 1, 2013 and the team's first game of the new year will be February 6 against Scotland at Everbank Field in Jacksonville, FL, home to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, it was announced Saturday.

New Women's Professional Soccer League Named, Logo Revealed

During halftime of Saturday's final game of the 2012 season for the US Women's National Team against China in Boca Raton, FL, the US Soccer Federation announced the name and logo for a planned eight-team professional women's outdoor league, the National Women's Soccer League.

The new league will feature the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, the Washington (DC) Spirit, the Western New York Flash and a yet-to-be-named Seattle franchise.

The league will begin in the spring of 2013.

The US Soccer Federation will operate the league and subsidize the salaries of up to 24 members of the USWNT, while federations in Canada and Mexico will do the same for up to 16 players of theirs each.

US Soccer To Unveil Name, Logo For New Women's Pro League At Halftime Of USWNT-China Series Finale

According to their Twitter account Saturday, US Soccer will announce the name and logo for a new eight-team professional women's soccer league, set to begin play in spring 2013, at halftime of tonight's US Women's National Team's final game of 2012, the last game of a three-game series with China, set to kick off at 7 p.m. Eastern time from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.

The game will be televised by NBC Sports Network and Univision.

Lancers Clip Wings In MISL Saturday Matinee

Doug Miller, who leads the Major Indoor Soccer League in scoring with 42 points, had a brace and assisted on Jeremy Ortiz's goal as the host Rochester Lancers edged the Wichita Wings, 10-6, in a Saturday afternoon contest at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

Frederico Moojen posted two goals for the Wings and Geison added a late power play goal.

Rochester (5-4) is tied for third place in the league standings with the Missouri Comets (same record), 3 1/2 games behind the undefeated Baltimore Blast (8-0). The Lancers host the Syracuse Silver Knights next Saturday.

Wichita is 2-6 and in seventh place, six games behind the Blast. The Wings host the Comets next Saturday.

Marcio Leite hit a three-point goal and assisted on Hewerton's second period goal as the defending Major Indoor Soccer League champion Milwaukee Wave defeated the expansion Chicago Soul, 9-2, Friday at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL.

Carlos "Chile" Farias scored Chicago's lone goal off a Tijani Ayegbusi pass.

Milwaukee is in second place in the league standings at 4-2, three games behind the league-leading Baltimore Blast, undefeated at 8-0. The Wave host the Blast next Sunday in another rematch of the 2012 MISL Championship Series.

Chicago, 2-6 and in last place, seven games behind Milwaukee, will welcome the Blast to town next Friday.

Budnyy Blasts Help Silver Knights Knock Comets Out Of Orbit

Andriy Budnyy had a hat trick and an assist as the host Syracuse Silver Knights defeated the Missouri Comets, 18-8, Friday in Major Indoor Soccer League play at War Memorial at The Oncenter.

Bryan Perez added a brace and assisted on two more score for Syracuse, 4-6 and in fifth place in the standings, five games behind the Baltimore Blast (8-0). The Silver Knights travel to the Rochester Lancers next Saturday.

Sounders Re-sign Defensive Tandem of Hurtado, Ianni

Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders Thursday re-signed defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Patrick Ianni.

Hurtado, who joined Seattle as a free agent in 2009 from Colombia's Deportivo Cali, has started 106 of 110 appearances for the Sounders across all competitions, including 81 regular season appearances for sixth-most in team history, and has a goal and three assists over that time.

Ianni, also joining Seattle in 2009, this time, in a trade with the Houston Dynamo, appeared in 21 games across all competitions in 2012 and is eighth in regular season appearances for them at 74.

The eighth overall pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, Ianni has started 83 of 98 games over all competitions.

Toronto FC Re-Signs Hall, Wiedeman

Major League Soccer's worst team in 2012, Toronto FC, announced the re-signings Friday of defender Jeremy Hall and forward Andrew Wiedeman after withdrawing them from possible selection in Friday's Stage 2 of the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft.

Hall, who scored one goal this season in 23 regular season appearances and in 83 total appearances in his career, including playoff games, also scored three goals in the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship tournament and played in all four Group Stage matches during the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.

He was acquired in a trade with FC Dallas in November 2011.

Wiedeman, also picked up in a trade with Dallas, but this past July, scored two goals last season over 15 appearances, the same number of goals scored after 23 league appearances over the last three season, and played in all four CCL Group Stage games.

16 USL PDL Teams To Compete In 2013 LHUSOC Tournament

The USL Premier Development League will again send 16 teams to the field for the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament, the nation's oldest club tournament, according to sources who are attending the league's Annual General Meeting this weekend in Tampa, FL.

Four of the teams will be making their tournament debuts: the River City Rovers, Ocala Stampede, FC Tucson and Seattle Sounders U-23.

Joining them will be the Austin Aztex, Carolina Dynamo, Des Moines Menace, GPS Portland Phoenix, Laredo Heat, Michigan Bucks, Ocean City Nor'easters, Orlando City U-23, Reading United AC, Real Colorado Foxes, Portland Timbers U-23 and the Ventura County Fusion.

W-League's Strikers Name Kevins Head Coach, Director Of Private Clinics

The Los Angeles Strikers of the USL W-League announced Friday Tracey Kevins has been named their new head coach and director of private clinics.

Since 2004, Kevins has served as assistant coach of England's women's national team and as first team manager of Barnet FC Ladies, members of the FA Women's Premier League's National Division after starting out in the South East Combination League.

Barnet finished the 2012 season in fourth place in the league after winning the league championship the year prior.

They also made the semifinals of the FA Womens' Cup in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 season, won the league's Southern Division title in 2010, the South East Combination League's 2006 title, and were seven-time Middlesex County FA Women's Senior Cup champions.

Kevins also was an assistant senior coach at David Beckham Academy in Los Angeles.

Buddle Bounced To Rapids For Allocation Money, Supplemental Draft Pick

After a season that saw him score only three goals, start ten games, and forced him to deal with a sprained right adductor, plantar inflammation, and meniscus surgery on his right knee, the two-time defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy traded forward and US National Team player Edson Buddle to the Colorado Rapids Friday in exchange for allocation money and a first-round pick in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft.

Buddle re-joined the Galaxy this February after being released by mutual consent from FC Ingolstadt of Germany's Bundesliga 2.

14 Players Find New MLS Homes After Stage 2 Of Re-Entry Draft

14 Major League Soccer players found new homes after the league held Stage 2 of their 2012 Re-Entry Draft via conference call Friday.

49 players entered the day not being selected by MLS franchises following last week's Stage 1, in which Maicon Santos, released by DC United, was selected by the Chicago Fire as the round's only transaction.

The remaining 35 players available for selection are now available to all MLS franchises on a first-come-first-serve basis.

It's A Trapp For The Crew!

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew announced the signing Thursday of US U-20 National Team midfielder Wil Trapp to a Homegrown Player deal, joining Matt Lampson, Ben Speas and Aaron Horton as members of the team's youth academy to sign with the first team.

Trapp played two seasons at Akron, where he started all 45 career games during that time.

He was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference First Team (2011, 2012) and Crew Soccer Academy Player of the Year pick (2009, 2010), a 2012 Third Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American, and the 2010 NSCAA National High School Player of the Year.

SKC Signs Cameroonian Defender Songo'o

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced the signing Thursday of Cameroonian defender Yann Songo'o for the 2013 season.

Songo'o led his native country to the final of the 2011 African Youth Championship and earned a spot in the field for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He played professionally in Spain with the youth systems of Deportivo and Real Zaragosa and also had stints in France in FC Metz.

Whitecaps Re-Sign South Korean Defender For 2013

Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps Thursday announced the re-signing of South Korean defender Young-Pyo Lee for the 2013 season.

He was fifth in the league last season in minutes played at 2,970, started and played all 90 minutes in 33 of 34 regular season games, had a goal and four assists, third most in the category, and was the team's Player of the Year.

Portland Announces Name Of New Women's Pro Soccer Team

Merrit Paulson, owner of Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers, announced Thursday that city's franchise in a new eight-team women's professional soccer league set for spring 2013, will be called Portland Thorns FC.

The team will play home games at JELD-WEN Field.

MLS Announces 49 Players Available For Selection In Stage 2 Of Re-Entry Draft

Major League Soccer Thursday announced the names of 49 players who are eligible for selection in Stage 2 of their Re-Entry Draft, being held via teleconference Friday.

Players eligible for selection are those who are out of their current contract or have had their 2013 option years on contract declined by their current franchise.

Teams that select a player have seven days to make a genuine offer or that team holds right of first refusal.

Teams can also draft their own players in this stage, but only after all other teams have declined selecting them.

All remaining players at the conclusion of the draft will then be available to all teas on a first-come-first-serve basis.

In last Friday's Stage 1, only the Chicago Fire selected a player, former DC United star Maicon Santos.

Red Bulls, Marquez Mutually Agree To Release

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Thursday, by mutual agreement, the release of defender Rafa Marquez.

Marquez, who joined the team as a Designated Player in August 2010 from FC Barcelona, started 42 of 44 regular season games, scoring a goal and nine assists, and started all six playoff games during his tenure.

Red Stars Name Coaching Staff For New Women's Pro League

Former Women's Professional Soccer and Women's Premier Soccer League franchise Chicago Red Stars, who will join the new and yet unnamed US Soccer-sanctioned eight-team women's professional league for its debut 2013 season, announced Wednesday Rory Dames will remain the team's head coach.

Dames' staff will consist of Stephanie Foster and Christian Lavers as first and second assistant coaches, respectively, and Trae Manny will return as their goalkeeper coach.

Groupings, Schedule Announced For 2013 Disney Pro Soccer Classic

The field groupings and schedule were announced Wednesday for the eight-team 2013 Disney Pro Soccer Classic, to be played February 9, 13, 16 and 23rd at the ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Group A will feature the two-time USL PRO regular season and 2011 league champion Orlando City Soccer Club and Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC and Columbus Crew.

USWNT Shuts Out China In Second Game Of Three-Game Series

Heather O'Reilly assisted on a brace by Abby Wambach and an Amy Rodriguez goal and Megan Rapinoe connected with Carli Lloyd on another score as the US Women's National Team shut out China for the second time in their three-game series, 4-0, Wednesday at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.

Underhill Named New SeaWolves GM

The North Sound SeaWolves of the USL Premier Development League announced Wednesday Jim Underhill has been named the team's new general manager, replacing Randy O'Boyle, who resigned at the end of the 2012 season after two seasons.

Underhill retired from the US Department of Health and Human Services after a combined 32 years between posts in Baltimore and Seattle.

Impact Chooses Not To Lose Mapp

Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact announced Wednesday the re-signing on midfielder Justin Mapp for the 2013 season.

Mapp, who has played 248 MLS games since 2002 with the Impact, DC United, Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union, started 21 of 27 games in 2012 and scored two goals and five assists.

He was a member of Lamar Hunt US Open Cup championship teams in 2003 and 2006 and has played eight times for the US Men's Nationa Team, where he was part of their 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning team.

Bernie Lilavois, current CEO, managing partner and head coach of the Professional Arena Soccer League's Anaheim Bolts, announced Wednesday he is resigning as head coach after this Saturday's road game against the Arizona Storm to concentrate on his other team duties.

The team has begun an immediate search for his coaching successor.

NASL Announces 2013 Player Combine Dates, Location

The North American Soccer League announced Wednesday they will hold their third annual Player Combine February 1-3 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Players interested in being invited to participate will be able to fill out an online registration form at www.nasl.com starting this Monday through January 18, 2013.

Dynamo Extends Contracts Of Davis, Moffet, Hall, Deric

Major League Soccer's 2011-12 Eastern Conference champion Houston Dynamo announced Wednesday they have signed midfielders Brad Davis and Adam Moffat and goalkeepers tally Hall and Tyler Deric to contract extensions.

Davis, who joined the team as part of the former San Jose Earthquakes in 2006, is the Dynamo's all-time leader in games played, games started and assists and was named their Most Valuable Player for a fourth straight season and to the league's All-Star team for a fifth time.

He had a career-high eight goals and 12 assists in 2012.

Moffat, who came to the Dynamo in a July 2011 trade with the Portland Timbers, had career-highs in 2012 in starts (22) and assists (three).

Hall set a team record in 2012 for regular season shutouts with 12 and has a franchise-record streak of 67 consecutive regular season stars.

He is also a two-time team Ironman of the Year.

Deric, the first player from the Dynamo's youth academy to sign a Homegrown Player contract, led them to a 2-0-2 record and the Group 3 championship in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League, earning them a spot in the tournament quarterfinals, taking place in March 2013.

He also played for their MLS Reserve Division team last season, leading them to the Central/Mountain Division championship with a 6-2-1 record, four shutouts and a 1.10 goals against average.

Orlando City To Host Serie A Champ A.S. Roma January 2

At a function Tuesday in Orlando, FL, two-time USL PRO regular season champion and 2011 league champion Orlando City Soccer Club announced they will host three-time Italian Serie A champion A.S. Roma in an exhibition game January 2 at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.

The team also showed off plans for a soccer-specific stadium, should Orlando be awarded a future Major League Soccer expansion team, and announced a deal with Ormond Beach, FL-based company Lotto to become their new official kit provider.

Timbers Make Deals With Toronto FC, Chivas USA

Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers announced Wednesday they have acquired forward Ryan Johnson and goalkeeper Milos Kocic from Toronto FC in exchange for goalkeeper Joe Bendik, Portland's highest first-round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, and allocation money.

In six MLS seasons with Real Salt Lake, Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC, Johnson has 27 goals and 20 assists.

Kocic appeared in a career-high 27 games last season.

Bendik, who spent two years with Songdal in Norway before coming to MLS, started three games for Portland last season.

In a separate deal, Portland received the number two slot in the league's allocation order from Chivas USA in exchange for their number three pick and either a 2013 season international roster spot or a second-round 2013 SuperDraft pick, should Portland acquire one.

Chivas Names Sola New Head Coach

Major League Soccer's worst team in the Western Conference in 2012, Chivas USA, who finished 7-18-9 under head coach Robin Fraser, Wednesday named Jose Luis Sanchez Sola to the position.

Sola has six years experience coaching professional teams in Mexico.

2012 MLS DOTY Stays With SKC, Makes Trade With Earthquakes

Sporting Kansas City announced Wednesday they have re-signed Matt Besler, Major League Soccer's 2012 Defender of the Year, to a new deal and traded defender Ike Opara to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for SKC's natural second-round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

Besler, also named the team's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, led a defense that allowed the fewest goals last season -- 27 in 34 games.

The tenth overall pick in the 2009 SuperDraft out of Notre Dame was also named to the 2011 MLS All-Star team.

Opara, the third overall pick in the 2010 SuperDraft by San Jose, missed most of his first two seasons due to foot surgery.

He played in a career-high 16 games in 2012, starting seven.

Piasa Goalkeeper Hagerty Named PASL Week 6 Player Of The Week

Illinois Piasa goalkeeper Alan Hagerty, who had 32 saves and shut down the Rockford Rampage in the second half of their game in Glen Carbon, IL Sunday, was named the Professional Arena Soccer League's Player of the Week for Week 6 of the 2012-13 season Tuesday after leading them to their first win of the season, 5-2.

USL PRO's Phoenix FC To Play Home Games In Tempe

USL PRO expansion franchise Phoenix FC announced Tuesday they have reached an agreement with Arizona State University to play home games, beginning with the 2013 season, at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on the Tempe campus, as well as pay for the seating expansion of the stadium from 1,000 to over 5,000 seats.

Barton Names LA Blues' New GM, Technical Director

The Los Angeles Blues of USL PRO announced Tuesday veteran English Premier League defender and current FOX Sports Champions League and EPL coverage studio analyst Warren Barton has been named their new general manager and technical director.

Barton played for many EPL teams, including Wimbledon, Newcastle United, Derby County and the Queens Park Rangers, as well as for England's national team.

Timbers Re-Sign Mwanga To New Deal

Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers announced Tuesday they have re-signed forward Danny Mwanga for his second season with the team after being traded there from the Philadelphia Union, where he was the team's number one overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

In four league seasons, Mwanga has 15 goals and nine assists over 79 regular season games.

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced Tuesday Missouri Comets forward Byron Alvarez, who had a hat trick and an assist in Sunday's 14-11 home win over the Chicago Soul at the Independence Events Center, was named the league's Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2012-13 season.

Galaxy Signs Academy Product Soto As Homegrown Player

The two-time defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy announced the signing Tuesday of Galaxy Academy defender Oscar Soto as a Homegrown Player.

He is the first defender to be signed from the academy and their fourth overall player signed.

Soto led the Galaxy's U-18 team to the 2011-12 SoCal Division Championship. He also trained with the first team in 2012 and played in seven MLS Reserve League games.

Union Agrees To Three-Year Deal To Play Preseason Games In Jacksonville

Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union announced Tuesday a three-year deal with Everbank Field in Jacksonville, FL, home to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, to hold one MLS preseason game at the stadium, beginning with a game set for February 15, 2013.

The games will be corporately sponsored by Sea Best Seafood.

Red Bulls Sign Academy Players As Homegrown Players

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced the signings Tuesday of Red Bulls Youth Academy goalkeeper Santiago Castano and forward Amando Moreno as Homegrown Players for the 2013 season.

Castano, with the academy since September 2008, trained last season with the first team and also played on the academy's U-14, 15, 16 and 18 teams. He also was part of the US U-17 National Team's residency program in 2010 and was called onto the U-14, 15 and 18 national teams.

Moreno, who joined the academy in November 2009, played on their U-15, 16 and 18 teams and, in the 2011-12 US Soccer Development Academy season, led the U-16 team to a championship title with 33 goals and 22 assists.

He was also called onto the US U-18 National Team, trained with the Red Bulls' first team, and played in several MLS Reserve League games in 2012.

Cosmos Sign Former Crew Defender Mendes

The expansion New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Tuesday of defender Carlos Mendes, who played in the 2012 season with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.

Mendes started 12 games last season after missing 22 with hamstring and ankle injuries.

Rojas Steps Down As Soul Head Coach, Marojevic Takes Over

The expansion Chicago Soul of the Major Indoor Soccer League announced Tuesday, by mutual agreement, Manny Rojas stepped down as head coach and was replaced by goalkeeper Novi Marojevic in that position.

Marojevic played three minutes in the team's inaugural game December 1, a 14-9 road loss to the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave, who Chicago will host Friday in his debut as head coach.

SKC Gets Feilhaber From Revs In Trade

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City, two-time defending Eastern Conference regular season champions, announced Tuesday they have acquired US Men's National Team midfielder Benny Feilhaber from the New England Revolution in exchange for allocation money, a natural first round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and a natural second round 2015 SuperDraft pick.

In two seasons with the Revolution, Feilhaber had five goals and nine assists in 52 appearances.

Before joining MLS in April 2011, Feilhaber played for teams in the Danish SuperLiga, Germany's Bundesliga and the English Premier League.

He has played 39 times for the USMNT.

DC Entry In New Women's Pro League Named Spirit

Washington, DC's entry into a new US Soccer Federation-backed women's professional soccer league, to launch in 2013, will be called the Washington Spirit, according to a news conference Tuesday.

The team will be led by Mike Jordan, who served last season as head coach of DC United Women in the USL W-League and led them to an 11-0-1 regular season record, the 2012 Eastern Conference championship, and a third-place finish in the league's championship tournament.

Jordan will be replaced at United Women for the 2013 W-League season by former Chelsea FC Reserves head coach Mark Parson, who will also serve as a Spirit assistant coach.

Cindi Harkes will also serve as an assistant coach on Jordan's staff.

The team will play home games at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD.
