Texas Dutch Lions' Zeldenrust Heading To Eredivisie

The Texas Dutch Lions of the USL Premier Development League announced Tuesday forward Furghill Zeldenrust has signed a one-year contract with RKC Waalwijk of the Dutch Eredivisie after being on trial and playing in a recent preseason game against FC Den Bosch.

RKC Waalwijk's season begins August 10 against PSV Eindhoven.

In 13 games this season for the Dutch Lions, an affiliate of the Dayton Dutch Lions of USL PRO, he scored five goals and three assists.

Toronto FC Signs Bermuda Goalkeeper Hall

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, the league's worst team this season, announced the signing Tuesday of Bermuda goalkeeper Freddy Hall, who was been on trial for the last three weeks.

He began his career in the USL Premier Development League with the Bermuda Hogges, but recently played in England's League Two for Northampton Town.

Red Bulls Finally Sign Draft Pick Ogunbiyi

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Tuesday the signing of defender Babajide Ogunbiyi, three years after he was picked in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.

He chose to play in the Danish First Division with Viborg FF, where he scored six goals in 53 games between 2010 and 2012.

Ogunbiyi is eligible to play in Tuesday's friendly game against Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

DC United Adds Five More Broadcasts On CSMA

Major League Soccer's DC United and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic announced Tuesday the airing of five additional games for the 2012 season.

Four of them are road games -- versus Sporting Kansas City August 11, Real Salt Lake September 1, the Portland Timbers September 29, and Toronto FC October 6 -- with the lone home game being the regular season home finale October 20 against the Columbus Crew.

Whitecaps Player/Assistant Coach Drops Player Title After 17 Seasons

Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday current assistant coach Carl Robinson has ended his playing career after 17 seasons.

Robinson played in England for Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Walsall, Rotherham United, Sheffield United, Sunderland and Norwich City and played in MLS for Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls before joining the Whitecaps.

He also appeared in 50 games for his native Wales.

Nominees Announced For Week 21 MLS Save Of The Week Award

Voting has opened for fans to select the Week 21 winner of Major League Soccer's Save of the Week contest for the 2012 season, which honors the goalkeeper who makes the most outstanding save.

Fans can go to http://www.mlssoccer.com/ to view the nominees and cast their vote before 11:59 p.m. Pacific time Thursday.

The nominees for Week 21 are Bill Gaudette (New York Red Bulls), Andy Gruenebaum (Columbus Crew), Jon Busch (San Jose Earthquakes), Dan Kennedy (Chivas USA) and Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire).

Sounders Forward Alonso Named LHUSOC Player Of The Round For 2012 Semifinals

Seattle Sounders forward Osvaldo Alonso was named Monday the Player of the Round for the semifinals of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Alonso had a goal and an assist in the team's 4-1 July 11 against fellow Major League Soccer member Chivas USA and the three-time defending tournament champion will vie for an unprecedented fourth straight title August 8 when they travel to Sporting Kansas City's Livestrong Sporting Park in an all-MLS final.

It's Alonso's second such award from the tournament, having won it after the 2011 championship game, and he joins Sebastien Le Toux (2007 Round 3, 2009 Semifinals) and Nate Jaqua (2010 Quarterfinals and Semifinals) as multiple Sounders award winners.

Alonso, with four goals in this year's tournament, is tied for second in goals with Danny Barrera of amateur team Cal FC and Frankie Lopez of the USL Premier Development League, and should surpass Brian Shriver of the North American Soccer League's Carolina RailHawks for the goal scoring title.

USWNT Coming To Wambach's Backyard For First Post-Olympic Game

The US Women's National Team announced Tuesday they will play their first game after the 2012 London Olympics against Costa Rica September 1 at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY, which will air live on NBC at 2:30 p.m.  Eastern time.

The game will be a homecoming for Pittsford, NY native Abby Wambach.

Wambach Goal Gives USWNT Group G Title At Olympics

Abby Wambach, still sporting a black eye she received after being punched by Colombia player Lady Andrade in Saturday's game at Glasgow, Scotland, scored the lone goal in the 25th minute of the US Women's National Team's 1-0 victory Tuesday over North Korea to capture the Group G championship at the 2012 London Olympics at Old Trafford in Manchester, England and now await a quarterfinal round match Friday against New Zealand, who finished third in Group E pool play.

USL PDL Announces Week 17 Player, Team Of The Week

USL PRO announced Tuesday Pittsburgh Riverhounds midfielder Matt Kassel, who scored two goals and assisted on a third in a 4-1 victory over Antigua Barracuda FC last Friday, was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 17 of the 2012 season.

FIFA Suspends Andrade Two Games For Punching USWNT's Wambach

The disciplinary committee of FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, announced Monday Colombian women's player Lady Andrade has been suspended for two games -- their next group stage game at the 2012 London Olympics Tuesday against France and their quarterfinal match at the tournament, should they qualify -- for punching US women's player Abby Wambach in the 39th minute of the US' 3-0 win Saturday at Glasgow, Scotland.

DC United Loaned Brazilan Midfielder Augusto

Major League Soccer's DC United announced Saturday they have acquired Brazilian midfielder Raphael Augusto on loan from Rio De Janeiro-based Fluminense of Brazil's Serie A.

He was already being loaned to Fluminense by America-RN of Brazil's Serie B.

Campos, Attinella Win NASL POTW Awards For Fourth Time In 2012

For the fourth time this season, the North American Soccer League Monday honored San Antonio Scorpions forward Pablo Campos and Tampa Bay Rowdies goalkeeper Jeff Attinella as their Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, this time for Week 17.

Campos scored four goals as the Scorpions won a league-record 8-0 rout of the Carolina RailHawks Saturday and surpassed his 12 goals from the 2011 season with a league-leading 15. He is now five goals away from the total RailHawks star Etienne Barbara tallied last season of 20 to win the league's Golden Boot award.

Attinella has his third straight shutout, sixth such this season, and eleventh of his career when the Rowdies shut out FC Edmonton 1-0 Saturday. He has started all 19 games this season and leads the league in saves with 86 and is fourth in the league in goals against average at 1.11, despite having not given up a opposing goal since the 45th minute of their July 12 game against defending league champion Minnesota Stars.

MLS Announces Week 21 Goal Of The Week Nominees

Major League Soccer Monday announced the five nominees for the AT&T Goal of the Week award for Week 21 of the 2012 season.

Fans can view the scoring plays of the nominees by visiting www.mlssoccer.com/att-goal-week and can vote for their choice either online or via their cell phone by texting to 22442 and typing in the code for their particular favorite. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time Thursday with the winner to be announced Friday.

Sago Leaving Blast For PASL's Dallas Sidekicks

Kevin Healey, president and general manager of the Major Indoor Soccer League's Baltimore Blast, announced Monday goalkeeper Sagu will not return for the 2012-13 season, choosing to return to Dallas, where he began his indoor soccer career, and play for the expansion Dallas Sidekicks in the Professional Arena Soccer League.

He will also coach youth goalkeepers.

Sagu led the MISL last season in wins (15) and points against average (9.61) and was a two-time Goalkeeper of the Month.

Arrieta's First Two Career Goals Gain Him Week 21 MLS Player Of The Week Honors

Columbus Crew forward Jairo Arrieta, who scored the first two goals of his Major League Soccer in Saturday's 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City at Livestrong Sporting Park, was named Monday the league's Player of the Week for Week 21 of the 2012 season.

Red Bulls Trade Ballouchy To Earthquakes

The New York Red Bulls Monday traded midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy to the Major League Soccer-leading San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for a 2013 conditional draft pick and a 2013 international roster spot.

Ballouchy has scored 13 goals and 24 assists in 174 career games over three MLS franchises.

He came to the Red Bulls in a September 2010 trade with the Colorado Rapids and had four goals and four assists in 51 appearances.

PKs Decide USL W-League Championship, Consolation Games

Both the 2012 USL W-League Championship and consolation games, played Sunday at Algonquin College's Soccer Complex in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada required penalty kicks to decide the winner, but the host Ottawa Fury upset the regular season champion Pali Blues 4-3 after playing to a 1-1 draw and DC United Women outlasted the Quebec City Amiral 7-6 after their own 1-1 stalemate.

In the consolation game, Josee Belanger had an unassisted goal for Quebec City in the 17th minute, but Jennifer Skogerboe evened the game for DC on a similar move in the 53rd minute.

In the championship game, Nikki Washington's second minute unassisted goal for the Blues was matched in the final minute of regulation play when Lisa-Marie Woods connected with Melissa Busque for a goal.

Dutch Lions Defeat Antigua Barracuda

Mettin Copier had a goal and an assist and Nixon Dias and Daniel Holowaty added goals as the host Dayton Dutch Lions defeated last-place Antigua Barracuda FC 3-1 Sunday in USL PRO play from Bellbrook High School.

Darrelle Russell had Antigua's lone unassisted goal.

Dayton is in ninth place in the league standings at 4-10-7 with 19 points and will play their home season finale August 11 against the Charlotte Eagles.

Antigua is 3-14-1 with ten points and hits the road this week for games Friday at the Richmond Kickers and Saturday at the Eagles.

Dike Hat Trick Snaps Timbers' Three-Game MLSRL Losing Streak

Bright Dike scored a hat trick and Sal Zizzo added another goal as the Portland Timbers snapped a three-game Major League Soccer Reserve League losing streak with a 4-2 home victory over Chivas USA Sunday at JELD-WEN Field.

Tristan Bowen and Marco Delgado scored goals for Chivas, who maintains the best record in the West Division at 3-2-2 with 11 points. The Goats next play at the Seattle Sounders September 9.

Portland, 3-3-1 with ten points, is tied for second place in the division with the Vancouver Whitecaps (same record) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (3-1-1). The Timbers host the San Jose Earthquakes August 26.

Union Rally To Win Fourth Straight Home Game Over Revs

Freddy Adu had a game-tying unassisted goal in the 59th minute and Jack McInerney scored the game-winning shot in the 90th minute off a Sheanon Williams assist as the host Philadelphia Union came from behind to defeat the New England Revolution 2-1 Sunday at PPL Park in Chester, PA, where the Union have won their last four home games.

Saer Sene scored New England's goal unassisted in the 12th minute, but lost their fourth straight contest.

Philadelphia (7-10-2) and New England (6-10-5) are tied for eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 23 points.

The Union travel to the Montreal Impact Saturday, while the Revolution host Sporting Kansas City that night.

FIFA To Review Punch To Wambach's Face At Olympics

FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, told the Associated Press Sunday it will review a punch to the right eye of US Women's National Team forward Abby Wambach by Colombia defender Lady Andrade in the 37th minute of the US' 3-0 win in pool play Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland during the 2012 London Olympics

Wambach received a black eye in the incident, though she says she is fine and will play in Tuesday's final pool game against North Korea.

The USWNT has already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament.

Andrade called the incident "an accident" after the game, but Wambach clearly said she was "sucker-punched" by her and that Andrade taunted her throughout the second half of the game and tried to hit her again in the face, but missed and hit her neck.

Flash Win First WPSL Elite League Championship In PKs Over Red Stars

The Western New York Flash won their third different league championship in as many years Saturday at their home pitch of Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY, becoming the first Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League champion over the Chicago Red Stars 4-2 in penalty kicks after playing to a 120-minute 1-1 draw.

The Flash won the 2010 USL W-League, then left to join Women's Professional Soccer, winning that league's final title in 2011.

Chicago scored in the 41st minute off an Ashleigh Ellenwood goal, but, in the final moments of second-half stoppage time, Jodi-Ann Robinson forced overtime with a pass to Toni Pressley for a goal.

Dynamo To Host Forest City London For USL PDL Championship Game

The Carolina Dynamo will host Forest City London this coming Saturday at Macpherson Stadium for the 2012 USL Premier Development League Championship after each won semifinal games Saturday.

At Macpherson, Donnie Smith and Shawn Sloan scored in the 35th and 43rd minute to lead the Dynamo to a 2-1, come-from-behind win over Orlando City U-23, who scored in the 25th minute off a Nicholas Russo goal.

Meanwhile, at German Club Stadium in London, Ontario, Canada, Carl Haworth, Alex Lewis and Bryan Da Cruz led the host team to a 3-2 victory over Seattle Sounders U-23, who got goals from Sean Morris and Dennis Sanchez.

Yomby Tallies Carry Kickers To Win Over Eagles

William Yomby's unassisted 13th minute goal and a 56th minute strike assisted by Phillipe Davies were enough to give the host Richmond Kickers a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Eagles in USL PRO play at City Stadium Saturday.

Jorge Herrera prevented Charlotte from being shut out with an unassisted 73rd minute goal.

Richmond, 8-7-5 with 29 points, is in sixth place in the league standings entering the final month of the regular season and will host Antigua Barracuda FC this Friday.

Charlotte, 8-9-2 with 26 points and in seventh, ends their home season at Charlotte Christian Stadium next Sunday against Antigua.

Langley Leads City Islanders Over Blues

Morgan Langley had a 34th minute goal off a JT Noone assist and assisted on Luckymore Mkosana's 67th minute strike as the host Harrisburg City Islanders shut out the Los Angeles Blues 2-0 Saturday in USL PRO play from the Skyline Sports Center.

Harrisburg, last season's runner-up to inaugural league champion Orlando City Soccer Club, is 8-5-6 with 30 points and are tied for fourth place in the league standings with the Wilmington Hammerheads (8-6-6). They host Orlando City Wednesday.

Los Angeles is in eighth place in the standings at 7-10-2 with 23 points and will travel to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Tuesday.

Campos Scores Career-High Four Goals In Scorpions Rout Of RailHawks

Pablo Campos scored a career-high four goals and leads the North American Soccer League in that category with 15 after the expansion, host and league-leading San Antonio Scorpions routed the defending league regular season champion Carolina RailHawks 8-0 Saturday at Heroes Stadium.

Greg Janicki had a brace, Esteban Bayona and Blake Wagner each had a goal, and Walter Restrepo assisted on three scores in the victory, improving San Antonio's record to 10-3-5 with 55 points before they host the Puerto Rico Islanders next Sunday.

Carolina, 6-6-6 with 24 points and in sixth place, hosts the Tampa Bay Rowdies this Saturday.

Rowdies Freeze Out FC Edmonton

Daniel Antoniuk's 44th minute goal, assisted by Mike Ambersley, gave the host Tampa Bay Rowdies a 1-0 win over FC Edmonton in North American Soccer League play Saturday at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL.

It was the Rowdies' third straight win, their seventh in their last eight games and they are unbeaten in their last six home games.

They last gave up a goal in the 45th minute of a game against the defending league champion Minnesota Stars FC July 12 -- 415 minutes ago.

The Rowdies are 10-6-3 with 33 points and in second place in the standings. Tampa Bay visits the defending league regular season champion Carolina RailHawks next Saturday.

FC Edmonton, 4-10-4 with 16 points and in seventh place, host the Stars next Saturday.

Delgado Goal Leads Islanders Over Stars In Bayamon

Noah Delgado's unassisted 49th minute goal gave the host Puerto Rico Islanders a 1-0 win over the defending North American Soccer League champion Minnesota Stars FC Saturday at Bayamon Soccer Complex in Bayamon, PR.

Puerto Rico improved to 9-6-4 with 31 points and fourth place in the league standings. The Islanders travel to the league-leading San Antonio Scorpions next Sunday.

Minnesota, losers of their last three games, is 7-7-5 with 26 points, is in fifth pace, and faces FC Edmonton on the road next Saturday.

Califf Scores Game-Winner For Goats Over Timbers

Danny Califf's 68th minute goal off a Ben Zemenski assist gave Chivas USA a 1-0 Major League Soccer victory Saturday over the host Portland Timbers, the worst team in the Western Conference this season, at JELD-WEN Field.

Chivas, 8-8-5 with 29 points and in sixth place in the conference standings, hosts the defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy August 12 in the latest round of their annual SuperClasico series at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Portland, 5-13-4 with 19 points, hosts FC Dallas next Sunday.

Late Lenhart Goal Gives Earthquakes Tie With Fire

Steven Lenhart's goal in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time, assisted by Chris Wondolowski and Shea Salinas, allowed Major League Soccer's best team this season, the host San Jose Earthquakes, to earn a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

Chris Rolfe scored for Chicago in the 37th minute off a Patrick Nyarko pass.

San Jose, 13-5-5 with 41 points and leading the Western Conference standings, is off until August 11 when they host the Seattle Sounders.

Chicago, 9-7-5 with 32 points, is fifth in the Eastern Conference race and will host Toronto FC next Saturday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

Sounders Stay Unbeaten Over Winless Rapids

Eddie Johnson scored in the second minute off a Mauro Rosales assist, then joined Alex Caskey in helping Osvaldo Alonso hit the game-winning goal in the 67th minute as the Seattle Sounders extended their current unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer this season to five games with a 2-1 victory over the host Colorado Rapids Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.

The Rapids, meanwhile, ended the month of July without earning a victory, losing all six games played.

Drew Moor tied the game at 1-1 for Colorado on a third minute goal off a Brian Mullin pass.

The rapid nature of the game's first two goals marked the first time since May 24, 2007 that two goals were scored in the first three minutes of a game.

Seattle is 9-5-7 with 34 points and is tied for third place in the Western Conference with the Vancouver Whitecaps (9-7-7). The Sounders host the defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy next Sunday.

Crew Needed Only One Man To Win Game Over SKC

Jairo Arrieta had a game-tying 17th minute goal off Josh Williams and hit the game-winner without assistance in the 34th minute as the Columbus Crew edged host Sporting Kansas City 2-1 Saturday in Major League Soccer play at Livestrong Sporting Park.

Kei Kamara scored SKC's goal in the eighth minute off Graham Zusi for the early lead.

Columbus is 8-7-4 with 28 points and holds down sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Crew travels to RFK Stadium next Saturday to play DC United.

SKC is 11-7-4 with 37 points, tied for second in the conference standings with the defending conference champion Houston Dynamo (10-5-7), and will head to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA next Saturday.

Magee Goal Gives Galaxy Shutout Over FC Dallas In Frisco

Mike Magee scored his fifth goal of the season and third in his last five games off a Robbie Keane feed in the 62nd minute as the defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy, without either Landon Donovan or David Beckham in the lineup, shut out host FC Dallas 1-0 Saturday in Frisco, TX.

Thierry Henry scored his 11th goal of the season for New York, who leads the league's Eastern Conference at 11-6-5 with 38 points and travels to the Houston Dynamo this Friday.

Montreal, 8-13-3 with 27 points, is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings, hosts the Philadelphia Union next Saturday.

Dynamo Earn First Road Win Over Toronto FC

Brad Davis teamed with Bobby Boswell on Calen Carr's 45th minute goal, then worked with Oscar Boniek Garcia on Brian Ching's 86th minute strike as the Houston Dynamo shut out host Toronto FC 2-0 Saturday for their first win against the Major League Soccer franchise at BMO Field in team history.

Houston has won their last four games and are unbeaten in their last seven.

The Dynamo are 10-5-7 with 37 points and are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference standings with Sporting Kansas City (11-7-4). Houston hosts the New York Red Bulls this Friday.

Toronto remains the worst team in the conference and the league this season at 5-12-4 with 19 points. Toronto travels to the Chicago Fire next Saturday.

Stoke City Shuts Out Orlando City In Friendly

Jonathan Walters scored the game's lone goal in first-half stoppage time off a Peter Crouch assist as Stoke City of the English Premier League shut out their American affiliate, two-time USL PRO regular season champion Orlando City Soccer Club, 1-0 Saturday in a friendly at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Orlando City returns to league action next week with road games Wednesday at the Harrisburg City Islanders and Friday at the Rochester Rhinos.

DC United Ties PSG In WFC Match At RFK Stadium

Dwayne De Rosario's unassisted 33rd minute goal countered a third minute strike by Zlatan Ibrahimovic off a Jeremy Menez assist and Major League Soccer's DC United played Paris Saint-German to a 1-1 draw in a 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge match at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC Saturday.

DC United returns to MLS play next Saturday at home against the Columbus Crew.

USL W-League Holds Annual Media & Awards Banquet

USL W-League announced the winners of their 2012 regular season awards Saturday at their annual Media & Awards Banquet, held in Ottawa, Ontario, prior to Sunday 2012 Championship Weekend finale at Algonquin College's Soccer Complex.

The Pali Blues collected three of the five awards handed out -- Rookie of the Year (Lynn Williams), Coach of the Year (Charlie Naimo) and Goalkeeper of the Year (Anna Maria Picarelli).

Williams led the Blues in goals (ten) and points (23) this season.

Naimo took the Blues to their third undefeated regular season crown in five years and will attempt to become the first team to ever win the league championship three times when they face the host Ottawa Fury Sunday afternoon.

Picarelli played all but 11 minutes of the 2012 season and allowed three goals in 14 regular season games and none in the postseason. She led the league in wins (13), shutouts (ten) and goals against average (0.216) this season.

Grace Hawkins of the Long Island Rough Riders, who won the league's Scoring (38 points) and Goal Scoring (17) titles this season, was selected the 2012 Most Valuable Player in voting by team head coaches and general managers, and Cindy Walsh of the Laval Comets was named Defender of the Year.

Red Bulls Waive Maduro

Having never played a single regular season game, Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Saturday they have waived midfielder Ryan Maduro, who signed with them March 19 out of Providence.

He debuted May 29 in a 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game against the Charleston Battery of USL PRO.

USWNT Clinches Olympic Quarterfinal Berth By Shutting Out Colombia

Megan Rapinoe scored a 33rd minute goal off Alex Morgan and assisted Carli Lloyd on a 77th minute strike as the US Women's National Team shut out Colombia 3-0 in the second game of Group G pool play from Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland at the 2012 London Summer Olympics Saturday and locked up a berth in the quarterfinals this Friday at James Park in Newcastle, England.

Abby Wambach scored in the 74th minute off a Tobin Heath pass in the victory.

The USWNT finishes pool play Tuesday afternoon against North Korea at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, home to Manchester United of the English Premier League.

Blues-Fury For USL W-League Championship Sunday

The 2012 regular season champion Pali Blues will meet the host Ottawa Fury Sunday at Algonquin College Soccer Complex in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for the USL W-League Championship after winning semifinal matches Friday.

In the first game, Liz Bogus scored in the 31st minute off a Yesim Servet Uzunlar pass, then had an unassisted 70th minute strike as the Blues shut out the Quebec City Amiral 2-0.

In the nightcap, Lydia Hastings' 44th minute goal from Leni Kaurin gave the Fury a 1-0 victory over DC United Women.

Quebec City and United will face off Sunday at 1 p.m. local time in the consolation game before the Blues-Fury match at 4 p.m.

Orlando City Wins Second Straight USL PRO Regular Season Title

Goals by Kevin Molino and Matt Luzunaris in the first half and a brace by Dennis Chin in the second half gave host Orlando City Soccer Club a 4-0 victory over the Charleston Battery Friday at the Florida Citrus Bowl to be crowned the two-time USL PRO regular season champion and earn home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Chin's goals also set a new single-season team record for goals scored with ten, breaking the old mark of nine set last season by Max Griffin.

Orlando City, 15-1-5 with 50 points, host their affiliate, Stoke City of the English Premier League, in a friendly match Saturday at the Citrus Bowl, then travels to the Rochester Rhinos to return to league play next Friday.

Charleston is 11-8-0 with 33 points and in line for a playoff berth in third place. They will host the Wilmington Hammerheads next Friday at Blackbaud Stadium before heading to Legion Stadium in Wilmington next Saturday.

Flash To Face Red Stars Saturday For WPSL Elite Championship

The host Western New York Flash will face off against the Chicago Red Stars Sunday at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY for the inaugural Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League Championship after winning semifinal matches Wednesday.

Katy Frierson scored a game-tying 78th minute goal off Jodi-Ann Robinson, then assisted on Laura Heyboer's game-winner two minutes later as the Flash came from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the New York Fury in the first semifinal.

In the nightcap, Lori Chalupny had a goal and an assist on a Lauren Fowlkes strike, and Ella Masur assisted on Chalupny's goal and on another by Julianne Sutch as the Red Stars upset the regular season champion Boston Breakers 3-1.

Rhinos Win On Blues Gaffe At Hour Mark

In the 60th minute, Los Angeles Blues player Mathieu Hall fired a shot into his own net, giving the host Rochester Rhinos a 1-0 victory in USL PRO play Friday at Sahlen's Stadium.

Rochester holds down second place in the league standings at 11-5-5 with 38 points and hosts Antigua Barracuda FC next Friday.

Los Angeles, 7-9-2 with 23 points, is in eighth place and travels to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this Tuesday.

Matt Kassel had two goals and an assist, Mike Seth had a goal and an assist, and Jeremy Deighton tallied a goal as the host Pittsburgh Riverhounds defeated Antigua Barracuda FC 4-1 Friday in USL PRO play from Chartiers Valley High School.

Tamorley Thomas scored Antigua's lone goal.

Pittsburgh is in ninth place in the league at 4-12-0 with 17 points and hosts the Los Angeles Blues this Tuesday.

Roberts Goal Gives Eagles Sixth Straight Win

Darryl Roberts scored the game's lone goal off a Mark Bloom assist in the 80th minute as the host Charlotte Eagles shut out the Richmond Kickers 1-0 for their sixth straight USL PRO win Friday at Charlotte Christian Stadium.

The Eagles, now 8-8-2 with 26 points, are tied with the Kickers (7-7-5) for sixth place in the standings.

The two teams play again this Saturday, this time at City Stadium in Richmond.

Hassan Brace Leads Strikers In Win Over Silverbacks

Aly Hassan had a brace, Walter Restrepo had a goal and assisted on two others, and Paulo Araujo, Jr. and Mark Anderson scored goals as the host Fort Lauderdale Strikers defeated the last-place Atlanta Silverbacks 5-3 Friday in the lone North American Soccer League game at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Pedro Mendes led Atlanta with a goal and an assist on brother Paulo's goal and Matt Horth scored off a Chris Klute assist.

Both teams will meet again next Saturday at Silverbacks Park.

Fort Lauderdale, 7-7-6 with 27 points, is in fourth place in the standings, while Atlanta hits rock bottom again at 3-11-5 with 14 points.

Saborio Brace Gives RSL Win Over Vancouver

Alvaro Saborio's brace, which included a game-winning 58th minute goal off assists by Javier Morales and Ned Grabavoy, led host Real Salt Lake to a 2-1 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium Friday over the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer's first game after the All-Star Game Wednesday.

Saborio opened the game with an unassisted goal in the 34th minute, but Vancouver tied the contest in the 52nd minute as Darren Mattocks scored off a pass from Camilo Sanvezzo.

Real Salt Lake is in second place in the Western Conference standings at 13-7-3 with 42 points and they travel next Saturday to the Colorado Rapids.

Vancouver, 9-7-7 with 34 points and in third place in the conference, hosts RSL at BC Place August 11.

Crew Sign Higuain As Lone Designated Player

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew announced the signing Friday of forward Federico Higuain as their lone Designated Player on the roster.

Higuain joins the Crew from Club Atletico Colon in Argentin'a Primera Division, where he had 19 goals in 62 games over the last two seasons after going there from Godoy Cruz after the 2009-10 season, where he scored 11 goals over 36 games.

He began his career in 2003 with River Plate at age 18, but only played in two games over two seasons. In 2005, he was loaned to Nuevo Chicago in Argentina's Primera B Nacional and helped them get promoted to the Primera Division. Higuain had 28 goals in 75 games there.

In 2007, he returned to River Plate, then went to Besiktas in Turkey during the middle of the year, where he played in nine games before getting loaned to Club America in Mexico's Primera Division. He scored a goal over 13 appearances there.

In 2008, he went back to Argentina to play for Independiente, scoring a goal over 18 games.

Sounders Replace Traded DP Fernandez With Tiffert

Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders, hours after trading Designated Player and midfielder Alvaro Fernandez to the Seattle Sounders Friday in exchange for allocation money, signed German midfielder Christian Tiffert as a new Designated Player.

Tiffert played over 280 games in his country's Bundesliga for  FC Kaiserslautern, but also spent time with Tennis Borussia Berlin, VfB Stuttgart and MSV Duisberg in Germany, and with Red Bull Salzberg in Austria.

Villareal, Reis Win MLS Week 20 Hardware

Jose Villareal of the Los Angeles Galaxy and Matt Reis of the New England Revolution were named Friday Major League Soccer's Week 20 AT&T Goal and Save of the Week winners after fan voting concluded Thursday.

Villareal received 40 percent of the vote in his category, edging New York Red Bulls' Thierry Henry, who had 37 percent.

Macoumba Kandji of the Houston Dynamo and Sanna Nyassi of the Montreal Impact were tied for third with 11 percent each, and Paulo Cardozo of Chivas USA had one percent.

It is the fourth GOTW award for a Galaxy player this season and second straight after David Beckham won for the third time in Week 19.

Reis won his award for the first time this season with 45.1 percent of the vote, nearly beating Red Bulls goalkeeper Bill Gaudette (25.23 percent) by a 2-to-1 margin.

Josh Saunders of the Galaxy was third in the voting at 19.68 percent, followed by Jon Busch of the San Jose Earthquakes (6.25 percent) and Troy Perkins of the Portland Timbers (3.75 percent).

Fire Gains Another DP On Roster Via Trade With Sounders

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire added another Designated Player to their roster Friday with the acquisition of Seattle Sounders midfielder Alvaro Fernandez in exchange for the Sounders gaining allocation money.

In 55 games with Seattle since 2010, 38 of them starts, Fernandez has scored 13 goals and three assists.

He is the second such player the Fire have signed this week -- Tuesday, they added Sherjill MacDonald.

NASL Announces Week 16 POTW Nominees, Campos Wins Week 15 Award

The North American Soccer League announced Thursday the nominees for Week 16 of their Play of the Week compeition.

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced defender Aurelian Collin, who played Wednesday in his first league All-Star Game in a 3-2 win over England's Chelsea, will miss one to two weeks after recovering from facial fractures he received after colliding with Chelsea's Michael Essien at midfield.

Toronto FC, Aceval Part Ways

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC and defender Miguel Aceval, who had only two appearances in five regular season games this season after joining in the offseason, agreed Thursday to part ways.

Aceval scored a goal with Toronto during the first leg of the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League semifinals against Mexico's Santos Laguna.

SKC Signs Homegrown Talent Angevine

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced the signing Thursday of local player and former youth academy goalkeeper Scott Angevine.

Angevine led Blue Valley Northeast High School to a Kansas Class 6A State Championship and he was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

He began his college career at Northern Illinois University in 2007 before later transferring to Coastal Carolina, where he played with current SKC defender Cyprian Hedrick.

Red Bulls Sign Everton's Cahill As Third DP

After days of speculation on the matter, Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Thursday they have signed Australian midfielder Tim Cahill as their third Designated Player on the roster and will introduce him to the media this Monday at Red Bull Arena.

Cahill, who played on Australia's 2006 and 2010 World Cup teams as part of his 55 appearances, where he has scored 24 goals, began his professional career at home with Sydney United before joining England's Millwall (56 goals in 249 games) and Everton (68 goals in 278 games).

Fire Loans Robayo Back To Former Colombian Team

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced Thursday they have loaned Colombian midfielder Rafael Robayo back to the team he came from, Club Deportivo Millonarios in his country's Categoria Primera A.

He played seven years with Millonarios before joining Chicago on January 9. He started three of 15 games with the Fire.

W-League Announces 2012 Regular Season Award Finalists

The USL W-League announced Wednesday the finalists for individual 2012 regular season awards for Most Valuable Player and Rookie, Defender, Goalkeeper and Coach of the Year to be handed out Saturday at the annual Media & Awards Banquet in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Another Rapids Commitment To A Long-Term Deal

Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids announced Wednesday goalkeeper Matt Pickens signed a new long-term deal, joining fellow players Brian Mullin, Jeff Laurentowicz, Omar Cummings and Drew Moor in that manner.

Pickens, who joined the team in 2009, has started all 103 games there, more than any other goalkeeper in team history.

He has a career-high 27 shutouts and his 39 wins for the Rapids tie him with Marcus Hahnemann for the team's all-time lead.

Pickens also leads the league in saves this season with 78.

Orlando City Ties Hammerheads, One Point Away From Playoff Bye

Matt Luzanairis' 84th minute goal off a Dennis Chen pass countered an unassisted 68th minute goal from Bryce Taylor as host and defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club played the Wilmington Hammerheads to a 1-1 draw Wednesday at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Orlando City, already leading the league this season at 14-1-5 with 47 points, will clinch a first round bye in the playoffs with their next standings point, which could come Friday when they host the Charleston Battery.

Wilmington, 8-6-6 with 30 points, is in fourth place in the league and travel to Charleston next Friday.

Johnson Nets MLS AT&T ASG Win In Stoppage Time

Seattle Sounders forward Eddie Johnson scored the game-winning goal in second-half stoppage time off assists by Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman and DC United's Chris Pontius as Major League Soccer's All-Stars edged Chelsea of the English Premier League 3-2 in the 2012 MLS AT&T All-Star Game Wednesday from PPL Park in Chester, PA.

Chris Wondolowski of the San Jose Earthquakes opened the scoring in the 21st minute on an unassisted goal and Pontius, named the game's Most Valuable Player, scored off feeds from United teammate Dwayne De Rosario and Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, in the 73rd minute to tie the game and nearly forced a penalty kick shootout.

Frank Lampard led Chelsea by assisting on John Terry's 32nd minute goal to even the game at 1-1 and took a 2-1 lead in the 58th after scoring a goal off a Ramires assist.

USWNT Open Olympic Play With Morgan Brace Over France in Scotland

Alex Morgan had a brace, Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd each added a goal, and Megan Rapinoe assisted on two scores as the US Women's National Team, down 2-0 to France after 14 minutes in their first game of Group G pool play at the 2012 London Olympics from Hampton Park in Glasgow, Scotland, defeated them 4-2 Wednesday.

France scored off unassisted plays in the 12th minute by Gaetane Thiney and two minutes later by Marie-Laure Delie.

MISL's New Chicago Soul Unveils Logo

The new Chicago Soul of the Major Indoor Soccer League unveiled their logo Wednesday.

It features black, white, neon green and silver within a triangular emblem with a blazing soccer ball seen over the words "Chicago Soul FC".

The Soul open their debut season November 11 at the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave and play their first home game at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL December 7.

Speas Stokes Crew To Win Over EPL's Stoke City

Ben Speas' game-winning goal off Emilio Renteria's second assist of the night in the 78th minute gave Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew a 2-1 victory over the English Premier League's Aston Villa Tuesday in an international friendly at Crew Stadium.

Stoke City took the lead in the 23rd minute as Ryan Shelton fed a pass to Jonathan Walters, but, in the 61st minute, Renteria teamed with Aaron Horton on the game-tying tally.

The Crew is now 10-5-1 in international friendlies.

Columbus returns to league play Saturday at Sporting Kansas City.

Stoke City, meanwhile, continues its 12-day tour of the US Saturday with a game at their American affiliate, defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club, then travel to SKC August 1.

USL PRO Announces Week 16 Player, Team Of The Week

USL PRO announced Tuesday Richmond Kickers forward Matt Delicate,who became the team's all-time goal scorer with his 65th career goal in the late minutes of a 2-0 win Saturday against the Dayton Dutch Lions, was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 16 of the 2012 season.

Delicate took over the top spot from former player and now team Board of Governors member Rob Ukrop.

Olsen Adds Union's Farfan To Roster; More Subs Allowed In Game

Major League Soccer All-Star team head coach Ben Olsen of DC United announced the addition Tuesday of Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Farfan to the roster for Wednesday's game against Chelsea at PPL Park in Chester, PA.

Farfan, a finalist in 2011 for the league's Rookie of the Year award, has scored a goal and four assists in 17 games this season, starting 16.

In a related matter, due to weather conditions expected during the game, MLS has agreed to Chelsea's request to increase the number of substitutions allowed in this friendly match from seven a side to ten each.

Fire Sign MacDonald, Loan Puppo To Uruguayan Team

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced Tuesday they have signed Dutch forward Sherjill MacDonald to a contract and he will become the team's latest Designated Player and fill an international roster spot.

MacDonald has played the last four seasons in Belgium with Beerschot AC in their top professional league, scoring 15 goals over 82 games.

He also played in Belgium for Anderlecht, in the Netherlands for AGOVV Apeldoorn, and in England for West Bromwich Albion, scoring a combined 47 goals in 217 appearances over a ten-year career.

Also, Tuesday, the Fire announced they have loaned forward Federico Puppo for an undisclosed time frame to Defensor Sporting Club in Uruguay.

Puppo joined Chicago this past January after playing in Uruguay for Danubio FC.

America One Sports To Carry PASL Games This Season

The Professional Arena Soccer League announced Tuesday syndicated national sports television programmer America One will carry league games, beginning this October.

The league, in its fifth season this fall, is the largest indoor soccer league in the country with 16 teams.

Nominees Named For Week 20 MLS Save Of The Week

Voting has opened for fans to select the Week 20 winner of Major League Soccer's Save of the Week contest for the 2012 season, which honors the goalkeeper who makes the most outstanding save.

Goats' Gaven Scores Game-Winner Over Whitecaps In Reserve League Play

Blair Gaven scored a game-winning goal in the 66th minute and Cesar Romero followed three minutes later with an insurance goal as Chivas USA defeated the host Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 Monday in Major League Soccer Reserve League play from the University of British Columbia.

Chivas scored in the 41st minute as Tristan Bowen assisted Laurent Courtois for the eventual halftime lead, but, in the 57th minute, Kianz Froese tied the game on an unassisted goal.

Chivas took over the lead in the league's Western Division with the victory at 3-1-2 with 11 points and travels to face the Portland Timbers' JELD-WEN Field this Sunday.

Vancouver, 3-3-1 with ten points and tied for second with the Los Angeles Galaxy (3-1-1), next play at home against the San Jose Earthquakes September 10.

A Nurse Is Coming Back To Puerto Rico

Midfielder Chris Nurse, who played for the Puerto Rico Islanders during their 2010 championship season in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, was transferred Monday to the now-North American Soccer League franchise by the defending league regular season champion Carolina RailHawks.

In two seasons with the RailHawks, he had a goal and four assists in 30 appearances, 20 of them starts, including an assist over ten appearances and six starts this season.

Alexandre Returns To Orlando City On Loan Through Season's End

Defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club announced Monday they have regained the services of San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Jean Alexandre for the remainder of Orlando's season.

He last played for Orlando City July 6 and 8 against the Los Angeles Blues.

USL Announces W-League Championship Weekend Schedule

Scorpions Sign All-Time MLS Goal Scorer Cunningham

The expansion San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Monday of Jeff Cunningham, Major League Soccer's all-time leading goal scorer.

In 14 league seasons between the Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC and FC Dallas, Cunningham, a two-time Golden Boot winner (2006 and 2009) and a three-time Best XI member (2002, '06, '09), scored 134 goals.

He last played in Guatemala for CSD Comunicaciones in the country's top division, scoring four goals in 12 appearances this season.

Cunnigham also played for the US Men's National Team.

NASL Gives Week 16 Awards To Anderson, Sanfilippo

The North American Soccer League announced Monday Fort Lauderdale Strikers midfielder Mark Anderson and Tampa Bay Rowdies defender Frankie Sanfilippo were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Week 16 of the 2012 season.

Anderson scored both this team's goals in a 2-1 win last Wednesday at the Minnesota Stars.

He has scored nine goals this season, tying him with Abe Thompson for the third-highest single season toal in franchise history, and putting him second in the league in goal scoring in 2012.

Sanfilippo, who last won the weekly defensive award in Week 9, scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of their 2-0 home win over the Puerto Rico Islanders Saturday.

It was Tampa Bay's second straight shutout, their fifth overall this season, and their fourth straight win and sixth in their last seven games.

Houston Carr's Drives Off With Player Of The Week Award

Houston Dynamo midfielder Calen Carr, who scored both goals in last Wednesday's 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City and assisted with Will Bruin on the first of two goals by Macoumba Kandji in the seventh minute of a 3-0 shutout Saturday of the Montreal Impact, was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week Monday for Week 20 of the 2012 season.

Major League Soccer Monday announced the five nominees for the AT&T Goal of the Week award for Week 20 of the 2012 season.

WPSL Elite Playoff Teams End Regular Seasons; Tournament Pairings Set

The top four teams after the first regular season in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League play met Sunday before this week's inaugural league championship playoffs Wednesday and Saturday at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY.

At Hofstra University, the host New York Fury and the Chicago Red Stars played to a 1-1 draw.

Meghan Lencyzk scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the sixth minute off a Gina DiMartino pass, but Chicago countered five minutes later with an unassisted Ashleigh Ellenwood strike.

The Fury finished in third place at 9-3-2 with 29 points, while the Red Stars, 9-4-1 with 28, ended in fourth place.

Meanwhile, at Sahlen's, Elli Reed's 22nd minute unassisted goal led the Boston Breakers to a 1-0 win over the host Western New York Flash.

Boston won the league's regular season championship, finishing 11-3-0 with 33 points, and the Flash finished in second at 9-2-3 with 30 points.

On Wednesday, the Fury will face the Flash in the early evening game, with the Breakers and Red Stars playing in the nightcap. Winners move to the championship game Saturday.

Field For USL W-League National Championship Semis Set

The Quebec City Amiral, DC United Women and regular season champion Pali Blues won their respective USL W-League conference championships Sunday and will join the host Ottawa Fury in the field for the league's annual championship, set for this weekend at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

In the Central Conference Championship, the Amiral defeated the Laval Comets 5-4 in penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 regulation draw.

Eva Thouvenot put the Comets in the lead in the tenth minute off a Valerie Sanderson assist, but Quebec City tied the game in the 38th minute when Audrey Lagarde connected with Frederique Paradis.

In the penalty kick shootout, both teams tied at 3-3 after three rounds, but, in the fourth, Laval's Pascale Pinard missed her attempt and Arianne Leclerc made hers to put Quebec City 4-3, then, in the final road, Cindy Walsh connected on her try for Laval, but Melissande Guy kicked the game-winner for the Amiral.

At the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD, Lianne Sanderson had a brace and Hayley Siegel added a goal as the United Women shut out the Charlotte Lady Eagles 3-0 to take the Eastern Conference Championship.

Finally, in the Western Conference Championship at Titan Stadium at Cal State Fullerton, Lynn Williams scored the game-winning and lone goal in the 63rd minute off a Sarah Huffman pass to give the Blues the title.

USL will announce the semifinal matches and game times Monday.

Lange Leads Forest City London To USL PDL Central Conference Championship; Conference Champions Named For National Semifinals

Martin Lange assisted Jordan Ayris on a 27th minute goal and scored in the 67th minute off a Thomas Owens pass as Forest City London won their USL Premier Development League Central Conference Championship with a 2-1 upset victory over the host and top seed Michigan Bucks Sunday at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, MI.

Tom Catalano prevented Michigan from being shut out with a goal off an Anthony Grant assist.

Forest City London now joins the Carolina Dynamo, a 1-0 winner over the Ottawa Fury Sunday for the Eastern Conference Championship at Macpherson Stadium in Greensboro, NC; Orlando City U-23, a 4-2 winner over the Austin Aztex Sunday for the Southern Conference Championship at Trinity Catholic Stadium in Ocala, FL, and the Seattle Sounders U-23s, a 2-0 winner over the Ventura County Fusion Sunday for the Western Conference Championship, in the league's National Championship Semifinals, reportedly to be played at two different sites this weekend, which will be announced Monday.

Robson Lifts Whitecaps Over Earthquakes At BC Place

Barry Robson's game-winning goal in the 62nd minute gave the host Vancouver Whitecaps a 2-1 upset victory over Major League Soccer's best team, the Western Conference-leading San Jose Earthquakes, at BC Place Sunday in the final game before the league's AT&T All-Star Game Wednesday at PPL Park in Chester, PA against Chelsea of the English Premier League.

Dane Richards put the Whitecaps up 1-0 in the 20th minute off a Lee Young-Po assist, but San Jose's Alan Gordon tied the game in the 38th minute from a Marvin Chavez pass.

Mutiny End WPSL Elite Season With Shutout Of FC Indiana

Kate Howarth's team-leading tenth goal of the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League season in the 24th minute was all the host New England Mutiny needed to shut down FC Indiana 1-0 in both teams' season finale Saturday at Northampton High School in Northampton, MA.

The Mutiny finished the season in fifth place at 6-5-3 with 21 points, while FC Indiana ended 1-11-2 with five points and are tied with the Philadelphia Fever, who plays their season finale Sunday at the ASA Chesapeake Charge.

Dynamo Make Comeback In Shootout To Defeat United In PDL Playoffs

Down 0-2 after two rounds of penalty kicks, the host Carolina Dynamo made their next eight straight to edge Reading United 8-7 to win a 2012 USL Premier Development League Eastern Conference Championship semifinal match Saturday at Macpherson Stadium.

Peyton Ford made the final successful attempt for Carolina, breaking a 7-7 tie, before Reading's last miss.

The Dynamo will face the Ottawa Fury, a 1-0 winner in Saturday's early game over the Ocean City Nor'easters, for the conference title Sunday.

Hakan Ilhan put the Dynamo up 1-0 in the 32nd minute off a Shane Malcolm assist, but Reading forced overtime to take place after Sean Peckham connected with David Rodriguez in the 88th minute.

RailHawks Survive Early Goal, Late Four-Hour Delay To Defeat Stars

In the latest rematch between the North American Soccer League's defending regular season champion and its league champion, the host Carolina RailHawks got a tenth minute goal from Zack Schilawski off a Mike Palacios pass and survived a four-hour weather delay in the second half to defeat the Minnesota Stars 1-0 Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

The game was delayed four hours by severe weather in the second half and, by league rules, could have been called an official game after one minute of the second half was played, if both head coaches and the head referee were in agreement, but the coaches chose to play the game out.

The RailHawks are now 6-5-6 with 24 points and are in fifth place in the league standings and face the current league-leading San Antonio Scorpions at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio this Saturday.

Minnesota, in fourth place at 7-6-5 with 26 points, head to the Puerto Rico Islanders this Saturday.

Union Shuts Out Red Bulls In Reserve League Match

Antoine Hoppenot scored in the seventh minute on a Roger Torres assist and Zach Pfeffer connected with Jorge Perlaza on a 78th minute strike as the Philadelphia Union shut out the host New York Red Bulls 2-0 Saturday in Major League Soccer Reserve League play at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The Union improved to 2-2-1 in the league's East Division and are tied for third with the Montreal Impact (same record), who they face in Montreal August 5.

New York, in fifth place at 1-3-2 with five points, travels to Montreal next Sunday.

Crew Beats United In Reserve League Win Off Vukovic Assists

Nemanja Vukovic assisted on goals in the sixth minute by Olman Vargas, the 53rd by Eric Gehrig and the 85th by Aaron Horton as the host Columbus Crew defeated DC United 4-1 Sunday in Major League Soccer Reserve League play at the Crew's training center in Obetz, OH.

Aaron Schoenfeld also scored for the Crew, the defending league champion, in the 19th minute from an Emilio Renteria pass.

Long Tan scored United's goal in the 49th minute off Danny Cruz.

The Crew lead the Eastern Division and the league at 6-2-0 with 18 points, while DC is in last place in the division at 1-1-1 and four points.

Both teams meet again in Reserve League play August 5 in Washington, DC.

Fire Snuffed Out By Aston Villa In Exhibition At Toyota Park

Gabriel Agbonlahor's 29th minute goal gave Aston Villa of the English Premier League a 1-0 victory over Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire Saturday in an exhibition game at Toyota Park.

The Fire returns to MLS play next Saturday at the Western Conference-leading San Jose Earthquakes.

Eagles, DC United To Decide W-League's Eastern Conference Champion

The Charlotte Lady Eagles, 4-0 winners over the Long Island Rough Riders, and DC United Women, 3-0 winners over the Virginia Beach Piranhas, will meet Sunday at the Maryland SoccerPlex for the 2012 USL W-League Eastern Conference championship after semifinal victories there Saturday.

In the first of two semifinal games, Amanda Naeher had a brace and an assist and Macky Wingo and Rachael Baer added goals for Charlotte's first championship game appearance since joining the W-League in 2003.

In the nightcap, Hayley Siegel and Lianne Sanderson each had a goal and an assist and Joanna Lohman also scored for the United Women.

Comets Cruise To W-League Central Conference Final With Semifinal Win Over Lady Lynx

Scorpions Sting Strikers In San Antonio

Pablo Campos' 57th minute goal off a pass by Walter Ramirez allowed the North American Soccer League-leading and expansion team San Antonio Scorpions to post a 1-0 victory over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Saturday at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.

The Scorpions, 9-3-5 with 32 points, host the defending league regular season champion Carolina RailHawks next Saturday, while Fort Lauderdale (6-7-6, 24 points, fifth place) hosts the Atlanta Silverbacks this Friday.

Ambersley Leads Rowdies Over Islanders

Mike Ambersley assisted on a 72nd minute goal from Frankie Sanfilippo and scored off a Fafa Picault assist in the 85th minute as the host Tampa Bay Rowdies shut out the Puerto Rico Islanders 2-0 Saturday in North American Soccer League play at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL.

Tampa Bay is in second place in the league standings at 9-6-3 with 30 points and hosts FC Edmonton next Saturday.

FC Edmonton Edges Silverbacks In Atlanta

Shawn Saiko assisted Serisay Barthelemy on a 64th minute goal and, two minutes later, Yashir Pinto doubled FC Edmonton's lead 2-0 en route to a 2-1 win over the worst team in the North American Soccer League this season, the Atlanta Silverbacks, Saturday at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.

Ciaran O'Brien scored for Atlanta on a 74th minute penalty kick.

Edmonton is 4-9-4 with 16 points and in seventh place in the standings. They travel to the Tampa Bay Rowdies next Saturday.

Atlanta, 3-10-5 with 14 points, heads to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers this Friday.

Donovan Dominates In Galaxy's SuperClasico Win Over Chivas

Landon Donovan scored in the 48th minute off passes from Robbie Keane and David Beckham and the 78th minute from Bryan Gaul and Omar Gonzalez as the defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy defeated Chivas USA 3-1 in the latest round of the seasonal SuperClasico series, hosted by the Galaxy at their joint home, The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, Saturday.

Keane also had a 14th minute goal off assists by Beckham and Juninho.

Pablo Campos prevented a shutout when, down 0-2, scored off a Ryan Smith feed.

The Galaxy are 9-10-3 with 30 points and in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Los Angeles travels to FC Dallas next Saturday.

Chivas, 6-8-5 with 23 points and in sixth, heads to the Portland Timbers next Saturday.

Saborio Sensational In RSL Shutout Of Rapids

Alvaro Saborio scored in the 32nd minute off a Fabian Espindola pass and assisted Will Johnson on his 90th minute insurance goal as host Real Salt Lake shut out the Colorado Rapids 2-0 Saturday in Major League Soccer play Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.

RSL is 12-7-3 with 39 points and is second in the Western Conference standings. They will host the Vancouver Whitecaps this Friday.

Colorado, losers of their last five, are 7-13-1 with 22 points and is tied for seventh with FC Dallas (5-10-7). The Rapids host the Seattle Sounders next Saturday.

FC Dallas Watches Timbers Rot On The Road

Jackson had a goal and two assists and Andrew Jacobsen was assisted by David Ferreira and Zach Loyd on a goal as host FC Dallas shut out the Portland Timbers 5-0 Saturday in Major League Soccer play at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, TX.

Ferreira also assisted on Jackson's first goal in the 48th minute.

Jackson assisted on a 69th minute Scott Sealy strike and Ruben Luna's 81st minute goal.

Portland, who set a new league record for most scoreless minutes in road games at 697, opened the scoring for Dallas in the 16th minute when Hanyer Mosquera had an own goal.

Dallas is 5-10-7 with 22 points and is tied for seventh in the Western Conference standings with the Colorado Rapids (7-13-1). The Hoops host the defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy next Saturday.

Portland, 5-11-4 with 19 points, has the worst record in the conference and now ties for the league's worst record this season with the Eastern Conference's Toronto FC (same record). The Timbers host Chivas USA next Saturday.

Dynamo Shuts Out Impact, Extends Home Pitch Winning Streak

Macoumba Kandji's goals in the seventh minute off Will Bruin and Calen Carr and in the 89th minute from Brad Davis allowed the host Houston Dynamo to shut out the expansion Montreal Impact 3-0 Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium as they extended their Major League Soccer home winning streak to 17 games, including games at their last home of Robertson Stadium at the University of Houston.

Bobby Boswell was the receipient of a Davis assist on an 84th minute goal.

Montreal, on the other hand, lost their tenth road game of the season.

Houston is 9-5-7 with 34 points and is third in the Eastern Conference race and will travel to Toronto FC next Saturday.

Birchall Blast Gives Crew Shutout Win Over DC United

Chris Birchall opened second-half play with a goal one minute in off a Jairo Arrieta assist as the host Columbus Crew shut out DC United 1-0 in Major League Soccer action Saturday from Crew Stadium.

Columbus is 7-7-4 with 25 points and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Crew travels next Saturday to Sporting Kansas City.

DC United, 10-7-3 with 33 points, is in fourth place and hosts the Crew in their next game August 4.

Toronto Plays Liverpool To World Football Challenge Draw

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC played England's Liverpool to a 1-1 draw Saturday in the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge at Rogers Centre.

Newly-acquired Quincy Amarikwa, picked up in a trade Saturday with the New York Red Bulls in return for a conditional draft pick, scored for Toronto on a 58th minute unassisted goal, but Raheem Sterling tied the game in the 69th minute with an assist on an Adam Morgan strike.

Toronto hosts the Houston Dynamo when they return to league play next Saturday at BMO Field.

Red Bulls Trade Amarikwa To Toronto FC For Conditional Draft Pick

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls traded forward Qunicy Amarikwa to the league worst team, Toronto FC, Saturday in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Amarikwa has not played a game for the Red Bulls, but had been training with them the last two weeks and New York held his rights.

Guy Hat Trick Lifts Amiral To Conference Semifinal Win Over Rage

Melissande Guy's hat trick, combined with a goal and an assist each by Joelle Gosselin and Sabrine Mamay, and a goal by Josee Belanger led the host Quebec City Amiral to a 6-1 rout over Hamilton FC Rage in a USL W-League 2012 Central Conference tournament semifinal match Saturday at Francois-Xavier Garneau College.

Angelika Uremovich scored Hamilton's goal.

The Amiral will now face the winner of Saturday's second semifinal between the Toronto Lady Lynx and the Laval Comets in the conference championship game Sunday.

Orlando City, Austin To Meet For PDL Southern Conference Title Sunday

Orlando City U-23s, formerly the Central Florida Kraze, and the Austin Aztex, returning to the league after a hiatus, will face each other for the 2012 USL Premier Development League's Southern Conference championship Sunday at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, FL after winning semifinal matches Friday.

In the opener, Nicolas Russo's 29th minute unassisted goal and Jonathan Mendoza's feed to Drew Helm on a 49th minute strike led Orlando City to a 2-1 victory over the Laredo Heat, who got their only goal in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick by Hector Vallejo.

In the nightcap, Kekuta Manneh scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 70th minute off Kris Tyrpak as the Aztex edged the host Ocala Stampede 3-2. Manneh also had a 36th minute unassisted goal.

Khury Shelton put Austin on the board first in the 14th minute off a Josh Alcala pass.

Ocala scored unassisted goals from Douglas Dos Santos (45th minute) and Tallyson De Oliveira (54th minute) in the loss.

Cooper Brace Puts Red Bulls In Temporary Eastern Conference Lead

Kenny Cooper scored goals in the 43rd and 58th minute as the host New York Red Bulls became the leader -- albeit temporarily -- of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference in a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union Saturday at Red Bull Arena.

Connor Lade assisted on both goals -- the first teaming with Joel Lindpere; the second with Thierry Henry.

New York is now 11-5-5 with 38 points and resumes play next Saturday at the Montreal Impact.

Philadelphia stayed in ninth place in the conference at 6-10-2 with 20 points and hosts the New England Revolution next Sunday.

Silverbacks Sign Navarro, James

The Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League announced the signings Friday of defender Alberto "Beto" Navarro and midfielder Horace James.

Navarro just finished his season in the USL Premier Development League with the Fresno Fuego. He also played on the amateur team Cal FC, led by current Atlanta interim head coach Eric Wynalda, that advanced to the fourth round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

He played from 2007 to 2010 at California State University-Bakersfield.

James comes to Atlanta from his native Jamaica, where he played for native Montego Bay United in the Red Stripe Premier League, as well as for Highgate United and St. Georges SC, and was on trial with Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City.

Early Goals Allow Hammerheads To Coast To Win Over Dutch Lions

Goals by Dylan Riley from a Corey Hertzog assist in the third minute and Cody Arnoux unassisted in the ninth minute were enough to allow the host Wilmington Hammerheads to a 2-0 rout of the Dayton Dutch Lions Friday in USL PRO play at Legion Stadium to keep them undefeated at home this season.

Wilmington is 8-6-5 with 29 points for fourth place in the standings, while Dayton is in ninth at 3-9-7 with 16 points.

Both teams play again on the road Saturday --  Wilmington at the Charlotte Eagles; Dayton at the Richmond Kickers.

City Islanders Battle Host Riverhounds

Tom Mellor scored in the fourth minute off a Garret Pettis assist and Lucky Mkosano added another goal in the 85th minute from a Sainey Touray pass as the Harrisburg City Islanders shut out the host Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-0 Friday in USL PRO play at Chartiers Valley High School.

The City Islanders, 7-5-6 with 27 points and in fifth place in the league standings, host the Los Angeles Blues next Saturday.

The Riverhounds, 3-11-5 with 14 points and in tenth place, travels Saturday to the Rochester Rhinos.

Toronto FC Gets Hassli From Vancouver For Draft Pick, Int'l Roster Spot

Toronto FC, the worst team this season in Major League Soccer, traded a first round pick in the 2014 SuperDraft and an international roster spot to the Vancouver Whitecaps Friday in exchange for French forward Eric Hassli, who will become Toronto's third Designated Player on the roster with Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans, who is now out for the season.

Hassli joined Vancouver from FC Zurich at the start of the 2011 MLS season and has scored 12 goals and five assists in 44 games with the Whitecaps. He has also scored three goals in eight appearances in the Amway Canadian Championship.

Rush's Horan Dumps UNC For PSG

Forward Lindsey Horan of the USL W-League's Colorado Rush became, at 18, the youngest American female to sign a professional contract with a European franchise when she signed a six-figure deal to join Paris Saint-Germain of the French League.

She was awarded a four-year scholarship to play collegiately at North Carolina before signing her deal with PSG.

Horan will report to Paris for preseason training at the end of the month, with the team's regular season starting in September.

Beckham, Nielsen Named Winners Of MLS' Week 19 Awards

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham and Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen Friday were named via fan voting the winners of Major League Soccer's AT&T Goal of the Week and Save of the Week awards for Week 19 of the 2012 season.

Both have won their awards before -- Beckham in Weeks 6 and 10, Nielsen in Weeks 7, 13 through 15 and 18, tying him with Nick Rimando of Real Salt Lake with four awards this season, and is the first goalkeeper to win back-to-back awards since Rimando did so in Weeks 8 and 9.

Beckham won with 49 percent of the vote, followed by Darren Mattocks of the Vancouver Whitecaps (25 percent), Alvaro Fernandez of the Seattle Sounders (15 percent), Luis Silva of Toronto FC (seven percent) and Pavel Prado of the Chicago Fire (four percent).

Nielsen earned 34 percent of votes from fans, edging Donovan Ricketts of the Montreal Impact, who got 32 percent of the vote. Bill Gaudette of the New York Red Bulls was third with 22 percent, followed by Sean Johnson of the Chicago Fire (nine percent) and Kevin Hartman of FC Dallas (three percent).

Olsen Replaces Pierce With Morrow On MLS All-Star Team

DC United head coach Ben Olsen, who will be head coach of the AT&T/Major League Soccer All-Star Team that will play Chelsea of the English Premier League next Wednesday at PPL Park in Chester, PA, announced Thursday San Jose Earthquakes defender Justin Morrow will replace New York Red Bulls defender Heath Pierce on the team.

Pierce has a strained right hamstring that kept him out of playing in Wednesday's game against the Chicago Fire.

WPSL To See Two Of Their Original Teams Come To Elite League In 2013

Women's Professional Soccer League announced Thursday two of the semi-professional women's soccer league's original franchises, the California Storm of Sacramento and the San Diego SeaLions, will join the WPSL's Elite League in a new Western Division for the 2013 season, with more teams to be announced in the future.

NY Fury Shuts Out FC Indiana In WPSL Elite Play

Kim Yokers scored in the 17th minute off a corner kick from Merritt Mathias and the host New York Fury got their second goal of the night after an Allie Long was deflected off an FC Indiana player for an own goal as they won their Women's Premier Soccer League's Elite League game Thursday at Hofstra Stadium.

The Fury have clinched a spot in next week's first league playoffs and are 9-3-1 with 28 points and in third place in the standings.

FC Indiana, 1-10-2 with five points, is tied for worst with the Philadelphia Fever (same record) and will finish their first season in the new league Saturday at the New England Mutiny.

Orlando City Clinches First 2012 Playoff Berth In USL PRO

Defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club clinched the first of six available playoff berths for the 2012 postseason Thursday as Luke Boden assisted on a game-tying goal from Matt Luzunaris and a game-winning strike from Ian Fuller, both in second-half stoppage time, as they edged the host Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium.

Jose Cuevas put Charleston on the board in the 64th minute off a Tony Donatelli pass.

Orlando City, leading the league at 14-1-4 with 46 points, will host the Wilmington Hammerheads next Wednesday and the Battery (11-7-0, 33, second place) next Friday at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

FC Edmonton Re-Signs Coaching Staff, Signs Scottish Defender Proctor

FC Edmonton of the North American Soccer League announced Thursday they have extended the contracts of head coach Harry Sinkgraven and assistant coach Hans Schrijver through the 2013 season and signed Scottish defender David Proctor.

Proctor has played the last five seasons with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premier League, where he began his professional career in 2003.

In 2006, he moved to Dundee United, then was loaned in the season to Airdrie United, where he led them to a promotion to the first division.

NASL Announces Week 15 POTW Nominees, Nunez Wins Week 14 Award

The North American Soccer League announced Thursday the nominees for Week 15 of their Play of the Week competition.

City Islanders Sign Former Union Stars For Rest Of Season

The Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO announced the signings Wednesday of midfielders Greg Jordan and Jimmy McLaughlin, both former players with the team's Major League Soccer affiliate, the Philadelphia Union, to contracts from the rest of the season.

Jordan, the 32nd overall pick of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, played three seasons the Creighton Blue Jays from 2008 to 2011 and led the team to the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup tournament in 2011.

McLaughlin, signed by the Union as their second Homegrown Player, started 22 games in his only season at Colgate, setting a school record for freshman players.

Dutch Lions Claw Past City Islanders

After playing to a scoreless draw Saturday at the Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, PA, Gibson Bardsley and Gerrit-Jan Bartles scored goals as the host Dayton Dutch Lions came back from an 0-1 deficit to defeat the Harrisburg City Islanders 2-1 in USL PRO play Wednesday at Bellbrook High School.
