USWNT Wins Final Friendly Game Before Olympics

Amy Rodriguez scored the game-winning 84th minute goal off an assist from Abby Wambach as the US Women's National Team defeated Canada 2-1 Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT in both teams' final friendly game before the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

A miscue by Canada's Carmelina Moscato gave the US a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, which eventually became the halftime lead.

Canada tied the game in the 56th minute when Christine Sinclair fed a pass to Melissa Tancredi.

The US, the world's number-one ranked team, opens Olympic play in Group B July 25 against France at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland, then face Colombia at the same site July 28, before ending the group stage at Old Trattford in Manchester, England against North Korea.

Pumas Regain Top Spot In Division With Win Over Crossfire

The defending USL Premier Development League champion Kitsap Pumas regained their spot on top of the Western Conference's Northwest Division with a 2-1 come-from-behind home win over the Washington Crossfire Friday at Bremerton Memorial Stadium.

After being down 1-0 in the first half on a second minute Crossfire goal from Zach Hammond off a Nathan Sackeyfio assist, Matt Friesen tied the game on an unassisted 72nd minute goal and Kyle Johnson fed a pass to Justin Robbins for the 85th minute game-winning shot.

Kitsap is 8-3-2 with 26 points and hosts the North Sound SeaWolves Sunday.

Washington, in the playoff hunt at 8-4-1 with 25 points, is tied for second place with the Portland Timbers U-23s (8-3-1) and will host the Seattle Sounders U-23s Sunday.

Samaniego Brace Leads Misioneros Over Outlaws

Cesar Samaniego's brace plus another goal by Victor Mendoza led the host LA Misioneros to a 3-1 win over the Ogden Outlaws in USL Premier Development League play Friday at Carver Middle School.

Ross Williams scored for the Outlaws.

The Misioneros are 4-3-7 with 19 points and are in fourth place in the Western Conference's Southwest Division. They next host the BYU Cougars Saturday.

Ogden, 6-5-2 with 20 points and in third place, travels to the Fresno Fuego Saturday.

Seahorses Give Pali The Blues At Biola University

Sean Simmons had a goal and an assist and Jordan Chrzan, Ryan Shaw and Doug Armstrong added goals as the host Southern California Seahorses shut out the Pali Blues 2-0 in a USL Premier Development League contest at Biola University Friday between the bottom two teams in the Western Conference - Southwest Division.

Southern California, 3-8-3 with 12 points, is in eighth place and is off until July 11, when they host FC Tucson, while Pali, 1-9-3 with six points, is last and hosts the Fresno Fuego next Saturday.

Timbers U-23s Chop Down Worst Team In USL PDL

Steven Evans and Emery Welshman scored goals as the Portland Timbers U-23s had little trouble defeating the worst team in the USL Premier Development League this season, host Fraser Valley Mariners, 2-0 Friday at Bateman Park.

Portland is 8-3-1 with 25 points and tied for second in the Western Conference - Northwest Division with the Washington Crossfire (8-4-1). The Timbers head to the Victoria Highlanders Saturday.

Fraser Valley, 0-12-1 with a point, hosts the Highlanders Monday.

Brown Keeps Reading United In Shutout Of Hogges

Deshorn Brown scored goals off Stephen Okai assists in the 42nd and 49th minute and Okai made an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute as host Reading United shut out the Bermuda Hogges 4-0 Friday in USL Premier Development League play at Albright College.

Ian Christianson also had an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute.

Reading is 7-2-2 with 23 points and in third place in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division. They will host the Brooklyn Knights Sunday.

Bermuda, ninth at 1-9-2 with five points, visits the Ocean City Nor'easters Sunday.

Amiral Shut Out Comets In W-League Contest

Imen Trodi's ninth minute goal off a Josee Belanger assist gave the Quebec City Amiral a 1-0 victory over host Laval Comets Friday in USL W-League play from Bois-de-Boulogne Sports Center.

Quebec City is 4-2-1 with 13 points and in fourth place in the Central Conference's Central Division. The Amiral faces the Rochester Rhinos on the road next Friday.

Laval, in second place in the division at 5-2-2 with 17 points, hosts the division-leading Ottawa Fury Wednesday.

Tulloch Triple Leads Orlando City U-23s Over Brilla

Jimmy Tulloch had a hat trick and Johan Bergfeld and Will Frandsen added goals as Orlando City U-23s defeated host Mississippi Brilla 5-3 Friday in USL Premier Development League action from Harper Davis Field at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.

Stephen Roberson had a goal and an assist to lead the Brilla and Carl Sheard and Billy Forbes also scored in the loss.

Orlando City U-23s are 5-2-4 with 19 points and are in third in the Southern Conference's Southeast Division standings. They face the Panama City Beach Pirates on the road next Friday.

Mississippi, 4-5-1 with 13 points and in sixth place, host the VSI Tampa Flames Sunday.

Abreu Rallies Knights To Win Over Bohemians

Raphael Aberu had an unassisted game-tying goal in the 68th minute and was assisted by Jose Batista three minutes later as the host Brooklyn Knights came from a goal down to defeat the expansion Baltimore Bohemians 2-1 Friday in USL Premier Development League play from the Metropolitan Oval.

Kingsley Onwuka had Baltimore's unassisted goal in the 28th minute.

Brooklyn, 4-6-1 with 13 points, is now tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division and will take on Reading United in a Sunday road game.

Baltimore, 3-5-3 with 12 points, is in eighth place and meets the New Jersey Rangers on the road Sunday.

Pirates Put Out Flames, Tie For Fourth In Division

Tyler Witmer and Rafael Machado scored goals and David Malloy and Marquel Waldron had assists as the host Panama City Beach Pirates edged the VSI Tampa Flames 2-1 Friday in USL Premier Development League play from Gavlak Stadium.

Kenneth Hogg has Tampa's lone goal.

The Pirates (5-3-2, 17 points) are now tied with the Flames (5-4-2) for fourth place in the Southern Conference's Southeast Division.

Both teams play on the road Sunday -- Panama City at FC Jax Destroyers, VSI Tampa at the Mississippi Brilla.

Bucks Battle Forest City; Share Beat Record In PDL

Stewart Givens and Kenny Uzoigwe scored goals for the Michigan Bucks as they edged host Forest City London 2-1 in USL Premier Development League play at the German Club in London, Ontario, Canada.

Carl Howarth had an unassisted goal for London.

Michigan, 9-0-2 with 29 points, leads the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division and now shares the best record in the league with the Ventura County Fusion, leader of the Western Conference's Southwest Division at 9-1-2. The Bucks travel to the Chicago Fire Sunday.

Forest City is now 4-3-4 with 16 points and in third place in the division. They will visit Hamilton FC Rage Sunday.

Orlando City, Dutch Lions Draw; OC Tied With Battery For League Lead

Defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club played host Dayton Dutch Lions to a 2-2 draw Friday at Belbrook High School and is now tied for the league lead in the standings.

Orlando City surged to 2-0 lead on goals by Matt Luzunairis and Anthony Pulis, but Dayton rallied on goals by Joel DeLass and Akken Priestley.

Orlando is now 10-1-3 with 33 points, tying them with the Charleston Battery (11-3-0), but plays at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday.

Dayton, 1-7-6 wth nine points and in tenth place, hosts the Riverhounds this Wednesday.

Late Battery Goals Cause Shutout Of Barracuda, Tie At Top Of USL PRO Standings

Jose Cuevas and J.C. Mack scored late unchallenged goals Friday as the Charleston Battery shut out the worst team in USL PRO, host Antigua Barracuda FC, 2-0 in the first game of a two-game series at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The Battery, now 11-3-0 with 33 points, is tied for the lead in the league standings with Orlando City Soccer Club (10-1-3), while Antigua is 2-10-0 with six points.

Both teams play again Sunday.

Pappa Goal Gives Fire Third Straight Win

Marco Pappa's 58th minute goal off a Chris Rolfe assist was enough for the Chicago Fire to shut out host Sporting Kansas City 1-0 in Friday's lone Major League Soccer game from Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS.

The Fire, winner of their third straight game, is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings at 8-5-3 with 27 points and will travel to the Houston Dynamo this Tuesday.

Sporting Kansas City, 9-5-2 with 29 points and in third place, head to the Montreal Impact this Wednesday.

SKC Says Goodbye To Sassano

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced Friday they have waived midfielder Luke Sassano.

Signed late last season, he scored one goal over ten regular season league games in his career and played in four games of the 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Reinhart Game-Winner Leads Fuego Over Cougars

Tyler Reinhart scored a game-winning unassisted 89th minute goal as the host Fresno Fuego edged the BYU Cougars 2-1 Thursday in USL Premier Development League action from Chukchansi Park in Fresno, CA.

The Fuego went up 1-0 in the 71st minute by way of Cougars player Tony Niccoli scoring an own goal, then BYU tied it in the 88th minute when Bryan Pope connected with Garrett Losee for a point.

Fresno, 5-4-3 with 18 points and in fourth place in the Western Conference - Southwest Division, hosts the Ogden Outlaws Saturday.

BYU, 4-5-2 with 14 points and tied for sixth place in the division with Orange County Blue Star (3-6-5), travels to LA Misioneros FC Saturday.

NASL Names Week 12 POTW Nominees, Campos Win Week 11 Award

The North American Soccer League announced Friday the nominees for Week 12 of their Play of the Week compeition.

Fans can go to www.nasl.com to see the Week 12 nominees and select their favorite highlight.

The nominees are Lance Parker of FC Edmonton, Nick Zimmerman of the Carolina RailHawks, Mark Anderson of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Jonathan Greenfield of the San Antonio Scorpions and Luke Mulholland and Tsuyoshi Yoshitake of the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

San Antonio's Pablo Campos was named the winner Friday of the Week 11 competition.

MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends, Fines Bernier

Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee announced Friday Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier has been suspended for Saturday's road game at DC United and fined for a reckless challenge that endangered the safety of Toronto FC forward Ryan Johnson in the 94th minute of their game Wednesday.

Ianni, Hernandez Named MLS' Best For Week 16

Major League Soccer fans selected Seattle Sounders center back Patrick Ianni and San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jason Hernandez as the Week 16 Goal and Save of the Week winners in this week's voting, the league announced Friday.

Ianni, in his first game with the Sounders since May 28, 2011, scored his first goal back in the 15th minute of a draw with Sporting Kansas City at CenturyLink Field last Wednesday.

Ianni received 44 percent of the vote, more than doubling the second place percentage of 21 given to Chicago Fire's Marco Pappa. Brandon Barklage of the New York Red Bulls (19 percent), Javier Morales of Real Salt Lake (12 percent) and Eddie Johnson of the Seattle Sounders (four percent) rounded out this week's ballot.

Hernandez won exactly 50 percent of the vote in the Save competition for heading off a potential Real Salt Lake goal in the 71st minute of San Jose's eventual 2-1 victory over RSL. The game was at a scoreless draw at the point of Hernandez's save.

Matt Pickens of the Colorado Rapids was second in the voting at 20 percent, followed by Tally Hall of the Houston Dynamo (13 percent), Dan Kennedy of Chivas USA (ten percent) and Milos Kocic of Toronto FC (seven percent).

Tucson Become PASL's Fourth Expansion City For 2012-13 Season

The Professional Arena Soccer League Friday announced the Tucson Extreme will become the league's 16th franchise and fourth expansion team for the 2012-13 season and will play home games beginning this November at the Tucson Convention Center.

A news conference will be held August 2 to announce the franchise's staff and head coach and unveil the team's kits.

Tucson will join the revived Dallas Sidekicks and Harrisburg Heat and the new Las Vegas Legends as expansion franchises awarded so far.

Toronto FC Waves Burgos, Jr.

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC announced Thursday they have waived midfielder Efrain Burgos, Jr., who signed with the team March 21 after being selected with a third round 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft and appeared in two regular season games.

Lencyzk Goals Leads Fury Over Charge In WPSL Elite Play

Meghan Lencyzk scored the game's only goal off a Leigh Ann Robinson assist as the host New York Fury shut out the ASA Chesapeake Charge 1-0 in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League play Thursday at Hofstra University.

The Fury is 5-3-1 with 16 points and in fourth place in the eight-team's standings and will host the New England Mutiny.

ASA Chesapeake is 1-6-1 with four points and is sixth place. The Charge host FC Indiana Sunday.

Heat Socks The Sockers On Garza Goal

Daniel Garza's 42nd minute goal off a Max Gunderson assist was all the scoring the host Laredo Heat needed in a 1-0 shutout of the West Texas Sockers at Texas A&M International University's Soccer Complex Thursday in USL Premier Development League play.

With the win, the Heat now take over the top spot in the Southern Conference - Mid-South Division at 7-3-2 with 23 points. They are now off until hosting the New Orleans Jesters July 10.

West Texas, in last place at 2-3-5 with 11 points, travels to the expansion Texas Dutch Lions this Saturday.

Pioneers Blaze Trail In 4-0 Romp Over Phantoms

Ryan Malone, D.J. Pereira, Drou Goff and Jordan Branco scored a goal each as the host Western Mass Pioneers shut out the host Seacoast United Phantoms 4-0 Thursday in USL Premier Development League play from Portsmouth High School.

The Pioneers improved to 4-3-5 with 17 points in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division, tying them for fourth place with expansion team CFC Azul (same). Western Mass travels to the new Boston Victory Saturday.

Seacoast United is 5-3-3 with 18 points and is in third place. The Phantoms play at CFC Azul Saturday.

Rovers Declaw Lynx

Lwandiso Gonya scored a 34th minute game-winning goal with the help of Ryan Smith as the host River City Rovers edged the Toronto Lynx 2-1 Thursday in USL Premier Development League play at Christian Academy of Louisville's Centurion Soccer Field.

Dillon Tufty opened the scoring for the Rovers on a tenth minute pass from Kyle Richards.
Callum Home had the lone Toronto goal in the 24th minute.

River City is 6-2-2 with 20 points and in second place in the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division. The Rovers host the expansion Chicago Inferno Tuesday.

Toronto, 2-8-1 with seven points and in last place, travel to the Cincinnati Kings Saturday.

Eagles Fly High In 3-2 Win Over Blues

Mauricio Salles, Christian Meza and Jorge Herrera scored goals as the host Charlotte Eagles got past the Los Angeles Blues 3-2 Thursday in USL Premier Development League play at Charlotte Christian Stadium.

Bright Dike scored both of LA's goals, giving him six goals in seven games since being loaned to them by Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers.

Charlotte is now 4-8-2 with 14 points and in eighth place in the league standings. The Eagles travel next Friday to the Charleston Battery.

Los Angeles, 5-4-2 with 17 points, is tied for fifth with the Richmond Kickers (4-5-5) and visits the Wilmington Hammerheads Saturday.

Rapids Waive Amarikwa, LaBauex, Abablo

Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids announced Thursday they have waived forward Quincy Amarikwa, midfielder Ross LaBauex and defender Eddie Abablo.

Amarikwa was acquired in a 2010 trade with the San Jose Earthquakes and he scored three goals and an assist in 31 career appearances, seven of them starts.

LaBauex was Colorado's second round 2010 MLS SuperDraft pick and started in six of 18 appearances.

Abablo was their first round 2011 SuperDraft pick. He did not play in any regular season games, but did so in one MLS Cup playoff games and a CONCACAF Champions League contest.

United Gets Tan From Whitecaps For Draft Pick; Vancouver Waives Francks

Major League Soccer's DC United announced Thursday they have acquired forward Long Tan, the first player from China in league history, from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for a third round 2015 SuperDraft pick that could become a first round 2015 Supplemental Draft pick, should the SuperDraft be cut then to two rounds.

Tan started four of 13 games in 2011 and scored one goal, ironically, against United. In 2012, he has appeared in four games.

In a related matter, Vancouver waived midfielder Floyd Francks, who played for head coach Martin Rennie on his 2008 Cleveland City Stars USL Second Division Championship team and at the Carolina RailHawks in the 2010 US Soccer Federation Division 2 Pro League and the 2011 North American Soccer League.

Blues Expand W-League's Best Record In Win Over Whitecaps

Daniella Hubka and Michelle Pao scored goals as the host Pali Blues expanded their best record in the USL W-League and its Western Conference - Western Division to 10-0-1 with 31 points after edging Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 Wednesday at Palisades Charter High School.

The Blues are now off until next Friday when they host the Colorado Rapids Women.

Vancouver, 2-4-3 with nine points, is in sixth place in the division and will face the LA Strikers on the road Friday.

Clarke Leads Valkyries To Win Over Rangers

Ashley Clarke had two goals and assisted Alicia Tirelli on a goal as the host North Jersey Valkyries thrashed the New Jersey Rangers 5-1 Wednesday in USL W-League action at DePaul Catholic High School.

Tirelli also assisted on Clarke's first goal and Brielle Buis opened the game with an unassisted shot.

Kerry Glynn had New Jersey's goals on a pass from Connie Gormley.

North Jersey is 5-2-1 with 16 points and in second place in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division. The Valkyries travel to the New York Magic Sunday.

The Rangers are in last place at 1-7-0 with three points and faces the Long Island Rough Riders in a Saturday road contest.

Zardes Brace Gives Fusion Shutout Over Blue Star

Gyazi Zardes, named Thursday the USL Premier Development League's Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2012 season, had a brace Wednesday night and Francisco Lopez assisted on Zardes' second goal in the 75th minute and scored in the 90th minute off a Daniel Barrera pass as the host Ventura County Fusion shut out Orange County Blue Star 4-0 Wednesday at Ventura College and now has the league's best record.

The Fusion lead the Western Conference's Southwest Division at 9-1-2 with 29 points and will face FC Tucson on the road Saturday.

Orange County, 3-6-5 with 14 points, is tied for sixth place with the BYU Cougars (4-4-2) and is now off until they host Tucson July 13.

Crossfire Climbs To Division Lead With Fisk's Help

Ben Fisk assisted Zach Hammond on a fourth minute goal, then hit an unassisted strike to the back of the net in the 53rd minute as the host Washington Crossfire became the leader of the USL Premier Development League's Western Conference - Northwest Division after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps U-23s Wednesday 2-1 at Redmond High School in Redmond, WA.

Gagendeep Dosanjn prevented Vancouver from being shut out in the 61st minute with an unassisted goal.

Washington is now 8-3-1 with 25 points and faces the defending league champion Kitsap Pumas on the road Saturday.

Vancouver, 5-5-3 with 18 points and in fifth place, hosts the North Sound SeaWolves next Friday.

Aztex Beat Heat, But Both Tied For Division Lead

After the host Laredo Heat opened the scoring with a tenth minute goal from Horacio Deal off a Juan de Dios Ibarra assist, the Austin Aztex tied the game in the 51st minute as Khiry Sheldon fed a pass to Kristopher Tyrpak, then won it in the 74th minute when Jesus Sanchez connected with Kekuta Manneh as the Aztex took a 2-1 USL Premier Development League victory Wednesday at Texas A&M International University's Soccer Complex.

Austin (6-4-2) and Laredo (6-3-2) are now tied for the lead in the league's Southern Conference - Mid-South Division with 20 points.

Both teams face the New Orleans Jesters next -- Austin traveling there Saturday, Long Island hosting them July 4.

Nor'easters Edge Rough Riders On The Road

Emmanuel Kolke's unassisted game-tying goal in the 44th minute and a game-winning goal three minutes later by Zonchar Dennis off a Terry Gibbs assist gave the Ocean City Nor'easters a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the host Long Island Rough Riders in USL Premier Development League play Wednesday at St. Anthony's High School.

Keith Detelj gave the Rough Riders their lead in the 39th minute off a Ben Arikian assist.

The win put the Nor'easters on top of the Eastern Conference - Mid-Atlantic Division at 9-2-0 with 27 points. Ocean City hosts the Bermuda Hogges Sunday.

Long Island, 5-4-2 with 17 points, is tied for fourth place in the division with the New Jersey Rangers (same record). The Rough Riders host the Central Jersey Spartans Sunday.

Gilbert Gems Lead Voltage To Blackout Over Victory

Liam Gilbert's unassisted 33rd minute goal and an assist in the 59th minute on an Ognjen Perucica goal in the 59th minute led the host Vermont Voltage to a 3-0 shutout of the Boston Victory Wednesday in USL Premier Development League action from South Burlington High School.

Bozidar Jelovac also scored for the Voltage on a 22nd minute assist from Etienne Boulanger.

The Voltage climbed out of last place in the Eastern Conference - Northeast Division at 2-8-2 with eight points and will host the Worcester Hydra Saturday, while the Victory landed in last at 2-8-1 with seven points and welcomes the Western Mass Pioneers Saturday.

Grazzini Contract Option Picked Up

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced Thursday they have picked up the option on the contract of midfielder Sebastian Grazzini's contract and he will remain with the team through the end of the season.

In 25 games since joining the team midway through the 2011 season, he has scored seven goals and nine assists.

Union's Gaddis Disciplined For Reckless Challenge

Philadelphia Union defender Raymon Gaddis will miss Saturday's Major League Soccer road game at the Houston Dynamo and pay a fine after the league's Disciplinary Committee Thursday found him guilty of making a reckless challenge on Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza in the 24th minute of last Saturday's game.

Earthquakes Waive McLoughlin, Suggs

Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes announced the waiving Thursday of midfielder Ellis McLaughlin, who scored one goal in ten games over two seasons, and defender Josh Suggs, who played in four MLS Reserve League games this season, his first in San Jose.

USL W-League Announces Week 7 Player, Team Of The Week

USL W-League announced Thursday Ottawa Fury midfielder Lisa-Marie Woods, who scored two goals in a 2-1 come-from-behind win against the Laval Comets and scored two more over the London Gryphons, was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2012 season.

McVey Gives Rangers 2-1 Victory Over Express

Jack McVey had an unassisted ninth minute goal, then assisted on Kevin Zalewski's game-winning goal in the 74th minute as the New Jersey Rangers upset the host Jersey Express 2-1 Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play from New Jersey Institute of Technology Stadium.

Joseph Ovenseri tied the game at 1-1 in the 28th minute for the Express on an Abdoulaye Coulibaly assist.

Jersey leads the Eastern Conference - Mid-Atlantic Division at 8-2-2 with 26 points and are off until July 4, when they travel to the Baltimore Bohemians.

New Jersey is 5-4-2 with 17 points and tied for fourth place in the division with the Long Island Rough Riders (5-3-2). The Rangers face the Westchester Flames on the road Saturday.

Late Goals By Anderson Lead GPS Portland Over Worcester

Eric Anderson scored two goals in the final three minutes of regulation time and Chris Banks opened the scoring in the 57th minute as GPS Portland Phoenix edged the host Worcester Hydra 3-2 Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play at Foley Stadium.

Ebrima Badgie opened the game for Worcester with a 17th minute goal off Chris Ager, then broke a 1-1 tie in the 67th minute of a Junior Alencar unassisted goal.

GPS Portland leads the Eastern Conference - Northeast Division standings at 8-3-1 with 25 points, while the Hydra is 3-3-5 with 14 points and is tied for fifth with the Western Mass Pioneers (same).

Both team have the Vermont Voltage on their road schedules next -- Worcester this Saturday, GPS Portland July 7.

Johnson Leads MLS' Worst Team To Upset At Montreal

Ryan Johnson scored a 72nd minute goal off a Nick Soolsma assist and then teamed six minutes later with Ashtone Morgan on Danny Koevermans' strike as Toronto FC, the worst team this season in Major League Soccer, stunned the host Montreal Impact with a 3-0 shutout Wednesday at Saputo Stadium.

Torsten Frings opened the scoring in the 52nd minute on an unassisted play.

Toronto, 2-10-2 with eight points and in last place in the Eastern Conference standings, host the New York Red Bulls this Saturday.

Montreal, 5-9-3 with 18 points, is tied for seventh in the conference with the New England Revolution (5-7-3) and travel to division-leading DC United Saturday

Crew Cuts Loose Three Defenders

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew announced Wednesday they have waived three defenders in Shawn Francis, Aubrey Perry and Korey Veeder.

Francis, in his third season after being selected in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, scored four assists in 28 career regular season games, 21 of which he started. The release of the Jamaican native opens up an international roster spot for Columbus.

Perry, a second round 2012 SuperDraft pick from the University of South Carolina, started five of seven games in the MLS Reserve League.

Veeder, acquired February 15, 2011 in a weighted lottery, played eight games last season for their eventual 2011 champion Reserve League team and started three of six Reserve League games this season.

MLS' DC United To Host Paris Saint-Germain At WFC

Major League Soccer's DC United announced Wednesday they will play Paris Saint-Germain of France's Ligue 1 July 28 at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC as part of the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge.

PSG finished second in the league this season with a 23-5-10 record and 79 points, the most points ever earned by a second-place team, and won a berth in the group stage of the 2012-13 UEFA Champions League.

RSL Gets Watson-Siriboe From Fire In Trade

Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake announced Wednesday they have acquired defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe from the Chicago Fire in exchange for their natural fourth round pick in the 2014 SuperDraft.

Selected as the 26th overall pick in the 2010 SuperDraft from Connecticut, he played in ten games that season. In 2011, he was loaned for the season to the North American Soccer League's Tampa Bay Rowdies, then FC Tampa Bay. In 2012, he has not played in a first team game.

Late McDevitt Goal Ties Brass, Demize In Kansas City

Matt McDevitt, who scored two goals, including the last one in second-half stoppage time, led the host Kansas City Brass to a 3-3 draw with the Springfield Demize Tuesday in USL Premier Development League play at Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, KS.

Zach Balthazar also scored for the Brass, now 3-4-1 with ten points and in eighth place in the Central Conference's Heartland Division. Kansas City travels to the Real Colorado Foxes Friday.

Colin Helmrich, Eric Martin and Josh Thomas had Springfield's goals and are now 5-4-4 with 19 points and tied for second place with the Foxes (5-3-4). The Demize will face the Des Moines Menace on the road Saturday.

Dynamo Kick Teeth Out Of Piranhas

Brothers Fejiro and Karo Okiomah, along with Mamadee Neypon and Aaron Reifschneider, scored goals as the host Carolina Dynamo shut out the Virginia Beach Piranhas 4-0 Tuesday in USL Premier Development League play at Macpherson Stadium.

The Dynamo lead the league's Eastern Conference - South Atlantic Division with an 8-1-2 record and 26 points, while the Piranhas are in eighth place at 2-7-2 with eight points.

The Piranhas will welcome the Dynamo to Virginia Wesleyan College for their next game Friday.

FC Dallas Welcomes Advocare As Jersey Sponsor

Major League Soccer's FC Dallas announced Wednesday Plano, TX-based health and wellness company Advocare, who has been a corporate sponsor for over ten years, will become the team's jersey sponsor through the 2015 season.

The new uniforms will debut July 28 when FC Dallas hosts the defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy at FC Dallas Stadium.

The deal now means only three MLS franchises do not have a jersey sponsor -- the Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City.

Red Bulls Extend Loan Of Hertzog To Hammerheads For Rest Of USL PRO Season

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Wednesday they have extended their loan of forward Corey Hertzog to the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO for the rest of their 2012 season.

His original 30-day loan period was to end Friday.

In seven games with the Hammerheads, he has scored four goals and two assists.

DC United Women Shut Out Majestics On The Road

Madyson Brown scored a 74th minute goal off a Hayley Siegel assist, then assisted Ashley Herndon on an 82nd minute insurance goal as DC United Women shut out the host Northern Virginia Majetics 2-0 Tuesday in USL W-League play.

Rage, London Play To PDL Draw At German Club

The Hamilton FC Rage and Forest City London ended their USL Premier Development League game Tuesday at the German Club in London, Ontartio, Canada in a 1-1 draw.

Miroslav Cabrilo scored Hamilton's goal off Lewis Ellis and Forest City's Jordan Ayris assisted Carl Haworth on their goal.

Hamilton, 3-5-3 with 12 points and tied for fifth in the Central Conference - Great Lakes Division with the Chicago Fire (3-4-3) and the Chicago Inferno (3-6-3), will host Forest City Sunday.

Forest City, though, will have a game Friday, hosting the division-leading Michigan Bucks Friday.

Asante Brace Leads Stampede To Division Lead

Anthony Asante's brace, off assists from Talysson De Oliveira and Karamba Janneh, gave the host Ocala Stampede a 2-1 victory over FC Jax Destroyers Tuesday in USL Premier Development League play at Trinity Catholic High School and the expansion Stampede now have charged to the top of the Southern Conference - Southeast Conference standings at 8-3-1 with 25 points.

Steven Scrivens was assisted by Adam Black on FC Jax's lone goal and the Destroyers are now 1-7-3 with six points and in seventh place.

The Stampede travel to Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy Sunday, while FC Jax hosts the Panama City Beach Pirates.

Williams Rallies Kings To Rout Of Rovers

Stephen Willaims has four goals and assisted on Leon Powell's goal as the host Cincinnati Kings defeated the River City Rovers 5-2 Tuesday in USL Premier Development League play from Northern Kentucky University.

Lwandiso Gonya had an unassisted River City goal and Kyle Richards sent a pass toward Ryan Smith for their other goal.

Cincinnati, 4-6-2 with 14 points and in fourth place in the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division, plays at the Toronto Lynx Saturday, but the Rovers, in second place at 5-2-2 with 17 points, hosts the Lynx Thursday.

Bucks, Fire Play To Draw At Toyota Park

Eric Pothast's goal in the 88th minute allowed the host Chicago Fire to play the Michigan Bucks to a 1-1 draw in USL Premier Development League action Tuesday from Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

Michigan scored in the 27th minute off a unassisted Stefan St. Louis goal.

The Bucks lead the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division at 8-0-1 with 26 points and they will face Forest City London on the road Friday.

Chicago, 3-4-3 with 12 points, is tied for fifth place in the division with the Chicago Inferno (3-6-3) and Hamilton FC Rage (3-5-3).

Chicago and Michigan will play again at Toyota Park Sunday.

MLS Teams Reach Semifinals Of 2012 LHUSOC Tournament

A Major League Soccer franchise will win the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup after quarterfinal games were played Tuesday across the country.

The only question is will one of them, the tournament's three-time defending champion Seattle Sounders, win it for an unprecedented fourth straight year.

In quarterfinal play Tuesday, MLS' Philadelphia Union defeated USL PRO's  Harrisburg City Islanders 5-2 at PPL Park in Chester, PA; MLS' Sporting Kansas City shut out USL PRO's Dayton Dutch Lions 3-0 at Livestrong Sporting Park, the Sounders blanked MLS' San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, and MLS' Chivas USA edged USL PRO's Charlotte Eagles 2-1 at Titan Stadium at Cal State Fullerton.

At Philadelphia, Lionard Pajoy had two goals, with Freddy Adu, Jack McInerney and Gabriel Gomez added scores for the Union. Yann Ekra assisted on Brian Ombiji's and Morgan Langley's goal for Harrisburg.

Both teams return to respective league play Saturday -- the Union at the Houston Dynamo, the City Islanders at the Rochester Rhinos.

In Kansas City, KS, C.J. Sapong was assisted on goals by Seth Sinovic and Soony Saad, and Jacob Peterson fed a pass to Graham Zusi in their shutout victory.

Sporting Kansas City hosts the Chicago Fire in MLS play Friday, while the Dutch Lions, on that night, host the USL PRO defending champion, Orlando City Soccer Club.

In San Francisco, Cordell Cato's 19th minute unassisted goal helped the Sounders defeat the Earthquakes.

Seattle plays Saturday at the New England Revolution, while San Jose hosts the defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy.

Finally, at Cal State Fullerton, Jose Correa's brace led host Chivas USA over the Eagles, whose goal came from Mauricio Salles.

While the Eagles return to USL PRO play Thursday, hosting the Los Angeles Blues, Chivas USA is off from MLS action until July 7, when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps

In the LHUSOC semifinals, Seattle will host Chivas USA at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA July 10 and Philadelphia hosts Sporting Kansas City at PPL Park in Chester, PA July 11.

Fire Waives Forward Dube

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced Tuesday they have waived Zimbabwean forward Kheli Dube, the team's only pick in the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft, though he never saw action for either their senior or Reserve League squads.

He was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft by the New England Revolution, where he played in 21 games that season, leading them to the 2008 SuperLiga title and himself to being named a finalist for MLS Rookie Of The Year.

Whitecaps Loaning U-23 Star Clarke To German Team

Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday forward Caleb Clarke, who leads their USL Premier Development League team with five goals in seven games this season, will be on trial with FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt in Germany's 3 Liga, their third-division league, through July 7.

If the trial is deemed a success, Clarke will then be loaned to them for a year.

Clarke was the second-leading scoring in the 2011 US Soccer Development Academy's regular season with 24 goals in 23 games.

Las Vegas Legends Joining PASL As 2012-13 Expansion Team

The Professional Arena Soccer League announced Tuesday the Las Vegas Legends will become the league's 15th team and will begin play this coming season.

The team will be coached by three-time Major Indoor Soccer League MVP Greg Howes, who last served as head coach and leading scorer for the PASL's Tacoma Stars.

The Legends will play home games at the Orleans Arena.

Soumare Returns To MLS With Union Via Trade

Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union traded a first round 2013 SuperDraft pick and allocation money to the Vancouver Whitecaps Tuesday in exchange for the rights to former Chicago Fire and MLS Best XI defender Bakary Soumare.

Soumare played for Chicago from 2007 to 2009 and was a finalist for Defender of the Year in 2008.

He was transferred to France's Boulogne in August 2009 and played in 65 games before being loaned to Germany's Karlsruher SC in January 2012, where he played in seven games.

A native of Mali, he played 13 times for his country's national team since 2008.

Voting has opened for fans to select the Week 16 winner of Major League Soccer's Save of the Week contest for the 2012 season, which honors the goalkeeper who makes the most outstanding save.

Timbers U-23s Tackle SeaWolves On The Road

Eric Hurtado scored a game-tying and unassisted goal in the 41st minute, Steven Evans connected with Will Seymore on the game-winning 54th minute strike and Mark Sherrod posted the insurance point in the 71st minute as the Portland Timbers U-23s defeated the host North Sound SeaWolves 3-1 Monday in USL Premier Development League action from Edmonds Woodway High School.

The Timbers U-23 are 7-3-1 with 22 points and share second place in the Western Conference's Northwest Division with the Washington Crossfire (same record). Portland travels to the Fraser Valley Mariners, the worst team in the division and the league, Friday.

North Sound took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Jordan Correa assisted Nasyir Rodriguez before the Timbers began their scoring onslaught unchallenged.

The SeaWolves, 4-7-0 with 12 points and tied for sixth in the division with the Victoria Highlanders (3-6-3), host the Seattle Sounders U-23s Friday.

Sounders Sign Steres, Release Sivebaek

Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders Friday signed defender Daniel Steres, who was selected in the league's Waiver Draft June 6 after being originally picked by Chivas USA in the 2012 Supplemental Draft.

The Sounders waived midfielder Christian Sivebaek, who started one of three games for them this season.

MISL's Norfolk SharX End Operations After One Season

Never being able to generate enough fan and corporate sponsorship interest in the team, the Norfolk SharX announced they will not return to the Major Indoor Soccer League for the 2012-13 season.

The SharX began their season with nine straight losses and ended their season with the league's worst record -- 5-15 in the league's Eastern Division.

Fulutudilu Assists On Goals In Rapids Women Win Over Strikers

Ode Fulutudilu assisted on goals in the 67th minute by Amanda McMullan and the 84th minute by Kelsey Neal as the host Colorado Rapids Women shut out the Los Angeles Strikers 2-0 Sunday in USL W-League play from Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.

The Rapids Women are 3-3-2 with 11 points and tied for fourth place in the Western Conference's Western Division with the Santa Clarita Blue Heat (3-4-2). They will host the Seattle Sounders Women Friday.

LA is 2-2-0 with six points and in seventh place. The Strikers are off until July 6 when they play at home against the Colorado Rush.

Monarchs Edge King's Warriors In PDL Play

David Neuberth had a goal and an assist and Julio Arjona and Alassane Kane contributed goals as the host Real Maryland Monarchs got past the expansion Southern West Virginia King's Warriors Sunday in USL Premier Development League play from Richard Montgomery High School.

Tony Stock was assisted by Nahom Tekle on both Southern West Virginia goals.

Real Maryland is 6-3-2 with 20 points and in second place in the Eastern Conference - South Atlantic Division and will face the Northern Virginia Royals Wednesday on the road.

Southern West Virginia, 2-8-1 with seven points and in last place, host the Fredericksburg Hotspur Friday.

Voltage Surges Behind Hat Trick, Assist From Jelovac

Bozidar Jelovac had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Vermont Voltage, in last place in the USL Premier Development League's Eastern Conference - Northeast Division, to a 5-3 upset of the Seacoast United Phantoms Sunday at South Burlington High School.

Etienne Boulanger and Ognjen Perucica each had a goal and an assist in the victory.

After gaining a 1-0 lead on a Vermont own goal, Jordan Thomas and Dylan George scored goals for the Phantoms.

Vermont is 1-8-2 with five points and will host the Boston Victory Wednesday.

Seacoast United is 5-2-3 with 18 points and in third place in the division. They will welcome the Western Mass Pioneers to town Thursday.

Yoshitake, Burse Named Again As NASL's Best

Tampa Bay Rowdies forward Tsuyoshi Yoshitake and Carolina RailHawks goalkeeper Ray Burse were each named the North American Soccer League's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week Monday, this time for Week 13 of the 2012 season.

Yoshitake, who won the offensive award last week, scored two goals, including the game-winner in second-half stoppage time, in a 3-2 win over the expansion San Antonio Scorpions that snapped San Antonio's nine-game winning streak.

Burse, who won the first defensive award of the season, had three saves in a shutout over FC Edmonton. It was his second straight shutout and third overall this season.

MLS Announces Week 16 Goal Of The Week Nominees

Major League Soccer Monday announced the five nominees for the AT&T Goal of the Week award for Week 16 of the 2012 season.

Donovan Named MLS Player Of The Week For Week 16

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan, who scored or assisted on all six goals scored between last Wednesday's 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Real Salt Lake and a 3-0 shutout of the Vancouver Whitecaps at The Home Depot Center Saturday, was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 16 of the 2012 season.

He's the first Galaxy player to win the award this season.

Julianne Sitch had a pair of goals and Alyssa Mautz and Lori Chalupny added others as the Chicago Red Stars retained their top spot in the new Women's Premier Soccer League's Elite League with a 4-1 victory at the Philadelphia Fever's Silver Eagle Stadium.

Chicago leads the league at 8-1-0 with 24 points and they face the Boston Breakers on the road this Saturday.

Philadelphia is 0-6-2 with two points and is in seventh place. The Fever host FC Indiana Friday.

Mutiny, Flash Muster WPSL Elite League Draw

The host New England Mutiny and the Western New York Flash played to a 3-3 Women's Premier Soccer League's Elite League contest Sunday at East Longmeadow High School in Longmeadow, MA.

Timbers Chop Down Sounders At JELD-WEN Field

The Portland Timbers stormed to a 2-0 lead off goals in the 16th minute by Kris Boyd and the 25th by David Horst as they defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-1 Sunday in Major League Soccer play at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, OR.

Due to the potential for damage from Tropical Storm Debby off the Gulf of Mexico, the USL Premier Development League announced Sunday a match between host Orlando City U-23s and the Mississippi Brilla Complex set for Sanford, FL was being postponed.

Silverbacks Sting Cobras Back With Draw

Toronto FC, Revolution Play To Ties -- TWICE!

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC and the New England Revolution took the old Ernie Banks catchphrase "Let's play two" to heart as they played to a 1-1 draw in Reserve League play Saturday morning and a 2-2 regular season draw that night, both at BMO Field.

In the Reserve League contest, Michael Roach scored in the 32nd minute for New England, but Toronto countered in the final minute of regulation with a strike from Nikola Paunic.

The Revolution is 2-2-2 with eight points and in second place in the Central Division standings and host the New York Red Bulls July 8, while Toronto, 1-3-2 with five points and in fourth, face New England again on the road September 10.

In the regular season nightcap, Blake Brettschneider had an unassisted 71st minute goal and Chris Tierney scored in the 94th minute off passes from Flo Lechnar and Fernando Cardenas for New England in a 2-2 draw,

Monge Carries Sounders To Tight Win Over Timbers

Fernando Monge had a goal and an assist and Sean Morris and Aodhan Quinn added goals as host Seattle Sounders U-23s edged Portland Timbers U-23s 4-3 Friday in a USL Premier Development League contest at Kiggins Bowl.

Portland's Chris Harris also scored for Seattle on an own goal.

Cam Vickers, Erik Hurtado and Mark Sherrod had goals for the Timbers.

Seattle is 6-2-3 with 21 points and in third place in the Western Conference - Northwest Division standings. They will visit the North Sound SeaWolves this Friday.

Portland is 6-3-1 with 19 points and in fourth place. The Timbers next face the league's worst team in the Fraser Valley Mariners June 29.

SeaWolves Storm Back For Victory Over Victoria

Abdulwali Aman, Brady Ballew and Marshall Kasaka led the host North Sound SeaWolves to a rally with unassisted goals in the 39th, 54th and 65th minute en route to a 3-2 victory over the Victoria Highlanders Friday in USL Premier Development League play at Edmonds Woodway High School.

The Charge's goal came off a 21st minute penalty kick.

MLS Suspends, Fines Timbers' Mosquera For Hit On Galaxy Player

Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee Friday issued a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine on Portland Timbers defender Hanyer Mosquera for hitting Los Angeles Galaxy forward Jack McBean in the 94th minute of their game this past Sunday.

Mosquera, who has started ten games this season for Portland after playing his last six seasons in his native Colombia, will miss Sunday's home game against the Seattle Sounders, their June 30 game at the Colorado Rapids and a July 3 home game with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Tropical Storm Debby Postpones FTL-Panama City Beach USL PDL Game

The USL Premier Development League announced Friday via their Facebook page Sunday's scheduled home game for Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy at Central Broward Regional Park against the Panama City Beach Pirates has been postponed due to the threat of Tropical Storm Debby to the state of Florida.

A make-up date will be announced.

Schulz is scheduled to play Friday at home against the IMG Bradenton Academics.

DC United Loans White To Kickers For Next Two Home Games

Major League Soccer's DC United announced Friday they have loaned forward Ethan White to the Richmond Kickers of USL PRO for their next two home games at City Stadium -- Saturday against the Rochester Rhinos and July 3 against the Los Angeles Blues.

White, who underwent offseason knee surgery, has not played in an MLS regular season game, but did play all 90 minutes in two MLS Reserve League games this season.

Richmond is in sixth place in the league standings at 4-4-5 with 17 points.

Foxes Blank Demize In First Of Two-Game Series At Shea Stadium

Joseph Eubanks, Luigi Clendening and Dan Dwyer scored goals as the host Real Colorado Foxes shut out the Springfield Demize in the first game of a two-game USL Premier Development League series Thursday at Shea Stadium with game two set for Friday.

Chicago Returning To MISL For 2012-13 Season

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced Friday Chicago will join the league for the 2012-13 season.

The franchise, which will be named soon, will play home games at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL; will be co-owned by chief executive officer Armando Gamboa and chief operating officer Dave Mokry, and likely be placed in the Central Division, giving the league a balanced eight teams, four in each division.

The 2012-13 alignment and regular season schedule will be released in August.

SKC Sweeps MLS Weekly Fan Awards

For the first time this season, players from Sporting Kansas City -- forward Julio Cesar and goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen -- were selected by fans to win Major League Soccer's Goal and Save of the Week, this for Weeks 13 through 15, the league announced Friday.

Sporting Kansas City shut out Toronto FC 2-0 last Saturday.

Cesar, who scored off a Graham Zusi corener kick, received 56 percent of votes cast, more than twice as many as second-place Sebastien Le Toux of the Vancouver Whitecaps got at 23 percent.

Felipe of the Montreal Impact was third at 13 percent, followed by Eddie Johnson of the Seattle Sounders at six percent and Darren Mattocks of the Whitecaps at two percent.

Nielsen, who won by 11 votes, the closest margin this season, got 26.04 percent of the vote for stopping a shot by Toronto's Danny Koevermans to win the award for the second time in the 2012 season, beating another two-time winner this season in Vancouver's Joe Cannon (25.53 percent). Nielsen previously won in Week 7.

Kevin Hartman of FC Dallas finished third in the voting at 21.84 percent, followed by Nick Rimando of Real Salt Lake (16.08 percent) and Sean Johnson of the Chicago Fire (10.51).
