Blues Power Past Strikers To Tie For Western Division Lead

Nikki Washington and Liz Bogus scored goals in the 30th and 42nd minute as the host Pali Blues got past the Los Angeles Strikers 2-1 Wednesday in USL W-League play at Palisades Charter High School.

Sam Johnson scored Los Angeles' goal in the 57th minute.

With the win, Pali is tied at 3-0-0 and nine points with the Colorado Rush for the lead in the Western Conference's Western Division. The Blues host Santa Clarita Blue Heat Saturday.

The Strikers, tied for last place at 0-3-0 with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, host the Victoria Highlanders next Friday.

Negron Triple Leads Wildcats Over Valkyries

Esmeralda Negron had a hat trick and Maya Hayes added a goal and two assists as the New Jersey Wildcats defeated the host North Jersey Valkyries 4-2 Wednesday in USL W-League play from DePaul Catholic High School.

Nicolette Driesse had an unassisted goal and teamed with Danielle Schulman on her 84th minute goal for the Valkyries.

The win was the first for the Wildcats (1-0-2, five points) and put them in second place in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division. New Jersey travels to the Long Island Rough Riders Thursday and the New Jersey Rangers Saturday.

The Valkyries are 0-1-1 with a point and is tied for last place with the New York Magic (same). North Jersey hosts the Magic next Thursday and the Rough Riders next Saturday.

Pumas Tie For Division Lead After Beating Crossfire

Greg Miley and Matt Friesen scored goals in the eighth and 36th minute, respectively, Wednesday as the defending USL Premier Development League champion Kitsap Pumas defeated the host Washington Crossfire 3-2 at Redmond High School in Redmond, WA.

Adam Mena scored Washington's goal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time.

The Pumas (4-2-0, 12) are now tied with the Portland Timbers U-23s (same) for the lead in the Western Conference's Western Division and travels Sunday to play the North Sound SeaWolves.

The Crossfire is 2-1-1 with seven points and is in fifth place. Washington faces the SeaWolves on the road Friday.

Ayris Brace Carries London To Win Over Rage

Jordan Ayris scored two goals and Chris Dillon added a third as Forest City London got past the host Hamilton FC Rage 3-2 in USL Premier Development League action Wednesday from McMaster University's Ron Joyce Stadium.

William Grocott and Mark Reilly had goals for the Rage.

With the win, Forest City now leads the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division at 3-0-0 with nine points. They will next host the Chicago Fire next Friday.

Hamilton, at 1-2-1 with four points, is tied with the expansion Chicago Inferno (same) for fourth place. The Rage will be in Chicago this weekend for games against the Fire Friday and the Inferno Sunday.

Kings, Rovers Play To Draw At Northern Kentucky University

The host Cincinnati Kings played the River City Rovers to a 2-2 draw Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play at Northern Kentucky University.

Braden Stelmak and Andrew Montgomery had goals for the Kings; Ryan Smith and Dillon Tufty scored for the Rovers.

The Rovers are 2-1-1 with seven points and in second place in the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division and will host the expansion Chicago Inferno next Thursday.

Cincinnati earned its first standings point of the season at 0-1-1 and is in seventh place. They will host the Michigan Bucks Friday.

Fire More Powerful Than Inferno In PDL Play

Isaac Kanneh, Chris Prince and Tyler Engel each scored an goal and assisted on another as the host Chicago Fire defeated the expansion Chicago Inferno 3-1 Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

Chad Regg prevented the Inferno from being shut out with an 83rd minute goal off a Damien Rolon-Merette assist.

The Fire are 1-1-0 with three points and are in sixth place in the Central Conference - Great Lakes Division. They will host the Hamilton Rage Friday and the Toronto Lynx Sunday.

The Inferno is 1-2-1 with four points and tied for fourth place with the Rage (same), who they host Sunday after welcoming Toronto to town Friday.

De Rosario Named MLS' May Player Of The Month

DC United forward Dwayne De Rosario, who had four goals and three assists last month and led his team to four of their six wins then, was named Thursday Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for May.

Lady Lynx Tied For Central Division Lead After Win Over Ravens

Shannen Jainudeen and Noir Ghoneim scored goals as the Toronto Lady Lynx became tied for the lead in the USL W-League's Central Conference - Central Division after a 2-1 road victory over the Rochester Ravens Wednesday at Aquinas Institute.

Brianna Smith had Rochester's lone goal off an Isabella Mitrevika assist.

Toronto, 3-0-1 with seven points is tied with the Hamilton FC Rage (2-0-1), who they'll host Sunday.

Rochester, winless in its first four games, is in last place and travels to the Ottawa Fury Saturday.

Whitecaps, Sounders U-23 Teams Play To 3-3 Draw

The under-23 teams of the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Seattle Sounders in the USL's Premier Development League played to a 3-3 draw Wednesday at Seattle's Cheney Stadium.

Benjamin Routledge (Vancouver) and Aodhan Quinn (Seattle) led their respective teams with a goal and an assist in the draw, with Gagandeep Dosanjh and Caleb Clarke posting goals for the Whitecaps and Luis Esteves and Sean Okoli doing the same for the Sounders.

Seattle is 2-1-3 with nine points and is in third place in the Western Conference's Northwest Division. The Sounders will host Vancouver again Sunday after Seattle welcomes Portland Timbers U-23s Saturday.

Vancouver, 2-2-2 with eight points and in fourth place, is at Portland Friday before returning to Seattle Sunday.

Barriero Blast Gives Bohemians Draw With Express

Christian Barriero scored an unassisted goal in the final minute of regulation that allowed the expansion Baltimore Bohemians to play the host Jersey Express to a 1-1 draw Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play at New Jersey Institute of Technology Stadium.

Jersey took the lead in the 16th minute as Abdoulaye Coulibaly assisted Shaun Foster.

Baltimore, 0-2-2 with two points, is tied for eighth place in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division with the Bermuda Hogges (0-0-2). The Bohemians travel to Reading United Saturday.

Jersey, in fifth at 1-0-2 with five points, hits the road Sunday to face the Ocean City Nor'easters.

Nor'easters Blow Past Rangers In Rout

Zoncher Dennis had a hat trick and Frank Tweneboa added two more goals as the Ocean City Nor'easters shut out the host New Jersey Rangers 5-0 Wednesday in USL Premier Development League play from Drew University.

Ocean City is 3-1-0 with nine points and is in second place in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division. They will host the Jersey Express Sunday.

The Rangers are 2-2-2 with eight points and in third place in the standings. New Jersey travels Saturday to meet the Brooklyn Knights.

Sounders Rout Silverbacks In LHUSOC Play, Host Cal FC In Next Round

Sammy Ochoa scored two goals and Andy Rose, Osvaldo Alonso and Alex Caskey each tallied goals as Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders, the three-time defending champion of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, defeated the North American Soccer League's Atlanta Silverbacks 5-1 Wednesday in third round play from the Starfire Soccer Complex in Tukwila, WA.

With the win, Seattle advances to the fourth round of the tournament next Tuesday, where they will host upstart Cal FC of the US Adult Soccer Association, who upset MLS' Portland Timbers 1-0 in extra time with a game-winning goal by Artur Aghasyan.

Atlanta returns to league play this Sunday when they travel to FC Edmonton's Clarke Stadium.

USMNT Ends Winning Streak In Loss To Brazil At FedEx Field

Neymar had a goal and assisted on scores by Thiago Silva and Marcelo, who also assisted on a Pato goal as Brazil snapped the US Men's National Team's five-game winning streak under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann with a 4-1 victory in an international friendly Wednesday at FedEx Field in Landover, MD.

The US' lone goal came moments before halftime as Herculez Gomez headed in a shot off Fabian Johnson.

Brazil has now won eight straight games.

The US continues its current five-game tournament-style schedule Sunday when they face Canada at BMO Field in their final friendly before playing in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, beginning June 8 against Antigua and Barbuda at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL.

USL W-League Announces Week 3 Player, Team Of The Week

USL W-League announced Wednesday Hamilton FC Rage goalkeeper Genevieve Richard, who had seven saves in a shutout of the Ottawa Fury, which ended their 17-game regular season unbeaten streak, and also led her team to a similar result against the Rochester Ravens, was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 3 of the 2012 season.

SKC Signs Supplemental Draft Pick Miller

Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City announced Wednesday they have signed defender and 2012 Supplemental Draft pick Kyle Miller.

Miller, a native of Overland Park, KS, grew up in the team's Juniors youth academy before playing high school soccer at St. Thomas Aquinas and college soccer at Rockhurst University, where he scored three goals and seven games in an 80-game career.

Miller actually played against his alma mater in a 2-0 exhibition game during this preseason and played in three preseason games overall.

He has already played in three MLS Reserve League games this season.

Blue Star Draw Earns Them Best Record In USL PDL

With a 1-1 draw between the host Orange County Blue Star and the Southern California Seahorses Tuesday at Concordia University, the Blue Star now claim not only the lead in the USL Premier Development League's Western Conference - Southwest Division, but the league's best overall record at 3-0-4 with 13 points.

The Seahorses got on the board first Tuesday as Sung Moon fed a pass to Daniel Chow in the 38th minute, but Orange County's David Ponce, assisted by Chris Santana, tied the game in the 74th minute.

Orange County will host LA Misioneros FC Sunday.

Southern California, 0-3-2 with two points and tied for last place with the BYU Cougars (0-0-2) and the Pali Blues (0-3-2), hosts the Ogden Outlaws Friday and the Blues Saturday.

Bangai Goal, Assist Rallies Fort Lauderdale To 2-1 Win At Ocala

Kevin Bangai had an unassisted 75th minute goal, then assisted two minutes later on the game-winning strike by Jose Abrams as Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy came from behind to defeat the host Ocala Stampeded 2-1 Tuesday in USL Premier Development League play at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, FL for their first win of the 2012 season.

Fort Lauderdale is now 1-2-1 with four points and is now in sixth place in the Southern Conference's Southeast Division and will travel to the Panama City Beach Pirates Friday.

Ocala, at 3-2-1 with ten points, remains in a three-way tie for the division lead with IMG Bradenton Academics (same record) and Orlando City U-23 (3-0-1), whom they host Saturday.

Garza Brace Causes Quakes To Beat Strikers At Stanford

San Garza's two come-from-behind goals led Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 victory over the North American Soccer League's Fort Lauderdale Strikers Tuesday in third round play in the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament from Cagan Stadium at Stanford University in Stanford, CA.

Mark Anderson gave the Strikers their only lead of the game.

San Jose will next host defendng NASL champion Minnesota Stars FC next Tuesday in the tournament's fourth round.

Fort Lauderdale will host the Tampa Bay Rowdies Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in a return to league play.

Romero Goal Leads Chivas USA Over Fusion At LHUSOC Tournament

Cesar Romero's second-half goal was all Major League Soccer's Chivas USA needed to defeat the USL Premier Development League's Ventura County Fusion 1-0 in the third round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament Tuesday at Ventura College in Ventura, CA.

Chivas now moves on to a fourth round game nest Tuesday, then is off until June 16 when they return to MLS play by hosting Real Salt Lake.

The Fusion travel Thursday to the Fresno Fuego in USL PDL play.

City Islanders Defeat Revolution In PKs At LHUSOC

The Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO defeated Major League's Soccer's New England Revolution 4-3 in penalty kicks after playing to a 3-3 draw in the third round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament Tuesday at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, PA.

The Revolution stormed to a 3-0 halftime lead on a brace by Lee Nguyen and a third goal by Benny Feilhaber, but the City Islanders scored goals by Brian Ombiji, J.T. Noone and Sainey Touray in the final nine minutes of the second extra time period to force the shootout.

The City Islanders go back to USL PRO play this Friday, when they host the Richmond Kickers, then will meet MLS' New York Red Bulls next Tuesday in the fourth round of tournament play.

The Revolution hosts the Chicago Fire this Sunday in MLS play.

Defending NASL Champs Run Out MLS' RSL In LHUSOC Match

Kevin Venegas scored in the third minute of play, Neil Hlavaty converted a penalty kick and Simone Bracalello had a 58th minute goal as the defending North American Soccer League champion Minnesota Stars FC ousted host Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer 3-1 in the third round Tuesday of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Luis Gil evened the game at 1-1 for RSL in the 29th minute.

The Stars advanced to next Tuesday's fourth round of the annual tournament, but first will host the expansion San Antonio Scorpions in a league game Saturday.

RSL returns to league play June 20 when they host the defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy.

Thornton Guides Eagles To LHUSOC Shutout At FC Dallas

Nate Thornton assisted on a Darryl Roberts 43rd minute goal, then had an unassisted 94th minute strike as the Charlotte Eagles of USL PRO shut out Major League Soccer's FC Dallas 2-0 in a third round 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament match Tuesday at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, TX.

The Eagles advance to the fourth round of the tournament next Tuesday, then travel to the Richmond Kickers in their return to league play June 9.

FC Dallas takes on the Houston Dynamo June 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston when MLS returns from an international break.

Scorpions Make History By Stunning MLS' Dynamo In LHUSOC Play

The expansion San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League won their first game against Major League Soccer competition when Hans Denissen converted a 51st minute penalty kick to defeat the Houston Dynamo 1-0 Tuesday in third round play at the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.

With the win, the Scorpions advance to next Tuesday's fourth round, where they will host the Charlotte Eagles in USL PRO, but, before then, San Antonio hosts a meeting Saturday with the defending NASL champion Minnesota Stars.

Houston is off from MLS play until they head to BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia to face the Whitecaps June 10.

Saad Brace Takes SKC To Fourth Round Of 2012 LHUSOC

Soony Saad scored goals in the 65th and 69th minute and Paulo Nagamura had a goal and an assist as host Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer upset defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club 2-1 Tuesday in third round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup play at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS.

Kevin Molino was assisted on a goal by Eric Ustruck in the 55th minute and got a late point off the foot of Dennis Chin.

SKC will host an all-MLS fourth round tournament game next Tuesday against the Colorado Rapids.

Crkic Goal, Assist Leads Bucks Over Fire In LHUSOC Tourney

Nermin Crkic assisted on Nathaniel Boyden's game-tying 79th minute goal, then scored on his own in the 93rd minute as the host Michigan Bucks of USL Premier Development League got past the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer in a third round 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament match Tuesday at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, MI.

Tom Catalano put the Bucks up 1-0 after nine minutes, then saw Chicago tie the game in the 28th minute when Federico Puppo fed a pass to Corben Bone, then nabbed a 2-1 lead on an unassisted Puppo goal.

The Bucks will face USL PRO's Dayton Dutch Lions, the only winless team in the league this season, next Tuesday in the fourth round of the tournament, but will first travel to play the Cincinnati Kings in USL PDL play this Friday.

The Fire return to MLS play Saturday at the New England Revolution.

Freddy Adu had two goals and Josue Martinez added another as the host Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer shut out the Rochester Rhinos of USL PRO 3-0 Tuesday at PPL Park in Chester, PA in a third round match in the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

The Union will travel to face MLS' DC United next Tuesday at RFK Stadium in Landover, MD.

The Rhinos return to regular season league play Saturday at Sahlen's Stadium when they host the Richmond Kickers.

Red Bulls Wear Battery Down In LHUSOC Play

Kenny Cooper, Heath Pierce and Connor Lade all scored goals as Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls shut out USL PRO's Charleston Battery 3-0 in a 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game Tuesday at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC.

The Red Bulls now have a date next Tuesday in the fourth round of the tournament against Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, PA.

Holovaty Advances Dutch Lions To Fourth Round Of LHUSOC Tournament

Daniel Holovaty assisted on goals in the 79th and 81st minutes from Jan Gerrit Bartles and Gibson Bardsley, respectively, to spark a comeback as the Dayton Dutch Lions of USL PRO, winless in their league this season, edged Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew in a 2-1 victory in 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament play at Columbus Crew Stadium.

Olman Vargas gave the Crew the early lead in the 64th minute on a penalty kick, as both teams played to a scoreless first half draw.

The Dutch Lions will seek their first win of the USL PRO season Saturday, when they host the Charleston Battery at Miami Valley South Stadium, then face the USL Premier Development League's Michigan Bucks next Tuesday in the LHUSOC's fourth round.

The Crew are now off until they travel to the New England Revolution June 16.

Rapids Roll Over Rowdies In LHUSOC Win

Shipalane Leads RailHawks To Upset LHUSOC Win Over MLS' Galasy

Ty Shipalane scored off a Zack Schilawski assist and assisted on Brian Shriver's goal as the defending North American Soccer League regular season champion Carolina RailHawks upset the defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 Tuesday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC in the third round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Pat Noonan scored the opening and lone goal for the Galaxy, who have lost their last nine games over all competitions this year.

Carolina will advance to the tournament's fourth round next Tuesday, but will first host current NASL leader Puerto Rico Islanders Saturday.

The Galaxy will host the Portland Timbers June 20 after a league-imposed break.

Saragosa ET Goal Kicks Kickers Out Of LHUSOC

Marcelo Saragosa's game-winning goal in the 107th minute gave Major League Soccer's DC United a 2-1 extra time win over the host Richmond Kickers of USL PRO in the third round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament Tuesday at City Stadium in Richmond, VA.

Hamid Salihi opened the scoring for DC with a 24th minute goal off a Maicon Santos pass, but Richmond tied the game on a Stanley Nyazamba penalty kick.

DC United moves on to the fourth round of the tournament next Tuesday, while the Kickers return to USL PRO play Saturday at the Rochester Rhinos.

For the third time in tournament history and the first time in consecutive weeks of the tournament, Danny Barrera of Cal FC, the lone representative of the US Adult Soccer Association in the 2012 field for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, was named Tuesday the Player of the Round for his second straight two-goal performance in last Tuesday's 4-0 rout of the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO.

Barrera was assisted by brother Diego on both goals.

In the team's opening round game May 15, Barrera's brace led them to a 3-1 upset victory over the defending USL Premier Development League champion Kitsap Pumas.

Cal FC will face Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers in the third round Tuesday at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, OR.

NASL Names Saiko, Sanfilippo Week 9 Award Winners

The North American Soccer League announced Tuesday FC Edmonton forward Shaun Saiko and Tampa Bay Rowdies defender Frankie Sanfilippo were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Week 8 of the 2012 season.

Saiko, who won for the second time this season (won first during Week 4), had a goal and an assist in his host team's 2-2 draw with the expansion San Antonio Scorpions Sunday and leads the league in points with seven on five goals and two assists.

Sanfilippo led the Rowdies to the second shutout of the season, a scoreless draw Friday with the defending league champion Minnesota Stars at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL.

He is one of three Rowdies to have played in all 810 game minutes this season.

USL PRO Announces Week 8 Player, Team Of The Week

USL PRO announced Tuesday Richmond Kickers forward Chris Agorsor, who scored a pair of stoppage-time goals in their 3-1 home win Saturday against the Wilmington Hammerheads, was named the league's Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2012 season.

Voting has opened for fans to select the Week 12 winner of Major League Soccer's Save of the Week contest for the 2012 season, which honors the goalkeeper who makes the most outstanding save.

Renteria Named MLS POTW For Week 12

Columbus Crew forward Emilio Renteria, who had a combined two goals and an assist in games last week against the Seattle Sounders and the Chicago Fire, was named Tuesday Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 12 of the 2012 season.

It's Renteria's second career POTW award; he won his first after Week 9 of the 2010 season.

Red Bulls Loan Hertzog To USL PRO's Hammerheads

Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Tuesday they have loaned forward Corey Hertzog to the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO for the next 30 days.

The 13th overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft out of Penn State, Hertzog has not played this season for the senior team, but has scored one goal over three games in the MLS Reserve League.

In 2011, Hertzog played in five regular season games for New York.

Ochieng Leads Brilla With Brace Over Destroyers

Chris Ochieng had two goals, Phillip Buffington had a pair of assists and Felipe Silva added a goal as the host Mississippi Brilla edged the FC Jax Destroyers in USL Premier Development League play on Memorial Day at Harper Davis Field at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.

Adam Black scored and also assisted on a Michael Donald goal in the loss.

Mississippi is now 2-3-0 with six points and is in fifth place in the Southern Conference - Southeast Division and will host Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy this Sunday.

Prior-Brown Brace Leads Charge Over Fever

Alexis Prior-Brown had a brace and Alexandra Brandt added another goal as ASA Chesapeake Charge won their first game in the new Women's Premier Soccer League's Elite League 3-2 Sunday over the host Philadelphia Fever.

Philadelphia's goal both came off penalty kicks.

The Charge, 1-2-0 with three points and tied for fifth place in the new eight-team league with the Western New York Flash (same record), will travel to winless FC Indiana next Friday.

The Fever, 0-1-1 with a point and in seventh place, plays road games Thursday against the New York Fury and Saturday versus the New England Mutiny.

Blue Heat Hits Host Strikers Hard

Ana Borges, Edite Fernandes and Laura Luis each had a goal and an assist and Nadia Link opened the scoring off a Borges pass as the Santa Clarita Blue Heat defeated the host Los Angeles Strikers 4-1 Sunday in USL W-League play at Patterson Field at Occidental College.

Sam Johnson had the lone Strikers goal.

The Blue Heat are now 1-1-0 with three points and are tied for third in the Western Conference's Western Division with the Colorado Rapids Women and the Seattle Sounders Women, both 1-0-0. Santa Clarita travels Saturday to face the Pali Blues.

The Strikers, losers of their first two league games, are tied for last place with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who have lost their first three of the season. Los Angeles hosts the Victoria Highlanders next Friday.

Brkic Blast Gives Chaos Win Over Royals

Amir Brkic's unassisted 61st minute goal gave the West Virginia Chaos a 2-1 victory over the host Northern Virginia Royals in USL Premier Development League action Sunday from Fairfax High School.

Dion Peters scored first for the Chaos in the 31st minute, but, nine minutes later, Northern Virginia's strike to the back of the net by Zachary Bowman evened the game.

West Virginia is now 3-1-0 with nine points and in third place in the Eastern Conference's South Atlantic Division. The Chaos host the Carolina Dynamo this Saturday.

Northern Virginia fell to 1-2-0 with three points and to seventh place in the standings. The Royals visit expansion Southern West Virginia King's Warriors Saturday.

Metros Defeat Monarchs, Share Most Points In USL PDL With Three Others

Iyassu Bekele had a goal and an assist and Rodrigo Maciel and Andrew Nkurunungi added goals as the host Nashville Metros took over the lead in the USL Premier Development League's Eastern Conference - South Atlantic Division with a 3-0 shutout Sunday of the Real Maryland Monarchs at E.S. Rose Park at Belmont University.

Major League Soccer Monday announced the five nominees for the AT&T Goal of the Week award for Week 11 of the 2012 season.

Alex Morgan scored two goals and Abby Wambach added a third as the US Women's National Team, playing their first game in nearly two months, defeated China 4-1 Sunday at PPL Park in Chester, PA, home to the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

China scored first in the 23rd minute by Rui Zheng and notched an own goal for the US by Gaoping Zhou's in the 37th minute.

Howell Leads United Women Over Majestics

Mikaela Howell assisted Sam Baker on a 71st minute goal and scored on a penalty kick three minutes later as the host DC United Women shut out the Northern Virginia Majestics 3-0 in USL W-League play at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, MD.

FC Edmonton Ties Strikers At Clarke Stadium

In the North American Soccer League's lone Sunday game, host FC Edmonton played the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, the league's runner-up last season, to a 2-2 draw at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Shaun Saiko led Edmonton with an assist on Yashir Pinto's 37th minute goal, then was helped by Ilja van Leerdam on a 54th minute strike.

Whitecaps Lead MLSRL's Western Division After Beating Timbers

The Vancouver Whitecaps scored goals in the first 28 minutes of the game from Floyd Franks and Darren Mattocks as they defeated the host Portland Timbers 2-1 Sunday in Major League Soccer Reserve League action from JELD-WEN Field.

Russell Talbot assisted on Franks' goal and Michael Nanchoff did the same for Mattocks.

Andrew Jean-Baptists had Portland's goal in the 70th minute off Franck Sango'o.

With the win, Vancouver took the lead in the league's Western Division at 2-1-1 with seven poiints ahead of Friday's game at the Seattle Sounders.

Kamara Carries SKC In Snapping Winless Streak

Kei Kamara teamed with Graham Zusi on C.J. Sapong's fifth minute goal and scored one with assists by Michael Harrington and Chance Myers in the 39th minute as host Sporting Kansas City snapped a four-match Major League Soccer winless streak with a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at Livestrong Soccer Park.

USWNT Names 2012 London Olympics Roster

On the heels of Sunday's game against China at PPL Park in Chester, PA, home to Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union, US Women's National Team head coach Pia Sundhage announced her 18-player roster for the 2012 London Olympics.

Of the 18 names, 11 were part of the gold medal-winning 2008 team from the Beijing, China games.

US captain Christie Rampone will play on a USWNT-record fourth Olympic team and midfielders Shannon Boxx and Heather O'Reilly and defender Heather Mitts will play on their third such team.

The USWNT has played in the gold medal game at every Olympiad the sport has been contested and they are the two-time defending champions, having won in 2004 in Athens, Greece and in Beijing.

The team will open Group G pool play at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland July 25 -- two days before the London Games officially open -- against France, then play Colombia in Scotland July 28, before coming to Old Trattford in Manchester, England, home to the English Premier League's Manchester United, July 31, to face North Korea.

Meanwhile, after Sunday's game versus China, the USWNT travels to Orjani Vall Stadium in Halmstad, Sweden to play the host country June 16 and Japan two days later, then return home for their Send-Off Match June 30 against Canada at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT, home to MLS' Real Salt Lake.

Chivas USA, Sounders End In Draw At The Home Depot Center

Host Chivas USA played the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw Saturday in Major League Soccer play at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Juan Agudelo, who returned to Chivas after not being named to the latest roster for the US Men's National Team, scored in the 57th minute off assists from James Riley and Peter Vagenas, but Seattle, now winless in their last four games, evened the score as Alex Caskey and Fredy Montero contributed to David Estrada's 61st minute goal.

Seattle, now 7-3-3 with 24 points and in third place in the Western Conference standings, face the North American Soccer League's Atlanta Silverbacks as they continue on the road to a possible fourth straight Lamar Hunt US Open Cup title Tuesday in a third round 2012 tournament game in Tukwila, WA. The Sounders return to MLS play June 16 at the Montreal Impact.

Timbers, Whitecaps Tie At JELD-WEN Field

The Portland Timbers and the Vancouver Whitecaps played to a 1-1 Major League Soccer draw Saturday at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, OR.

After a scoreless first half, Kris Boyd ended the drought for Portland with a 67th minute unassisted goal, but Eric Hassli and Martin Bonjour teamed with Darren Mattocks on the game-tying 84th minute strike.

Vancouver is now 5-3-4 with 19 points and tied for fourth place in the Colorado Rapids (6-6-1) in the Western Conference standings. The Whitecaps host the Houston Dynamo June 10.

Portland, 3-5-4 with 13 points and tied for seventh with FC Dallas (3-8-4), hosts amateur team Cal FC of the US Adult Soccer Association in a third round 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match Tuesday, then is off until June 17 at the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Castrillon's Goal Carries Impact In Rapids Victory

Jamie Castrillon's game-winning goal in the 83rd minute led the host Colorado Rapids to a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer action Saturday from Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.

Jeff Larentowicz opened the scoring for Colorado on an unassisted 18th minute goal to tie the game at 1-1 and Drew Moor gave them a 2-1 lead on his 39th minute strike, assisted by Martin Rivero.

Patrice Bernier scored for Montreal off a Felipe Martins pass in the 14th minute, then assisted Collen Warner on Andrew Wenger's 48th minute goal.

Colorado is 6-6-1 with 19 points and are tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps (5-3-4) for fourth place in the Western Conference standings. RSL Edges FC Dallas To Hold Western Conference Lead

Nat Borchers hit a game-winning 93rd minute goal and Alvaro Saborio has a brace in regulation time as Real Salt Lake now holds Major League Soccer's Western Conference lead and the league's best record following a 3-2 victory over FC Dallas Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.

Matt Hedges had an unassisted 75th minute goal and Jonathan Top and Jackson teamed on Blaz Perez' goal for FC Dallas, winless in their last nine games.

RSL, extending their unbeaten streak to six games, is now 9-3-2 with 29 points. They will host the defending North American Soccer League champion Minnesota Stars FC Tuesday in a third round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game, then will be off until a June 16 road game at Chivas USA.

DC United Tops Eastern Conference On Santos Game-Winner

DC United climbed to the top spot in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference as Maicon Santos had a game-winning 88th minute goal off Dwayne De Rosario in a 3-2 victory over the New England Revolution Saturday at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC.

Brandon McDonald and Dylan Jakovic boosted United to a 2-0 lead before the Revolution tied the game on goals from Saer Sene and A.J. Soares.

United, now 8-4-3 with 27 points, faces USL PRO's Richmond Kickers in a third round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game at City Stadium in Richmond, VA Tuesday, then is off from league play until traveling to the Philadelphia Union June 16.

Gaven Helps Crew Burn Fire

Eddie Gaven scored in the ninth minute from a Shaun Francis pass, then teamed with him on Emilio Renteria's 43rd minute shot as the Columbus Crew extended their Major League Soccer unbeaten streak to five games and won their second straight game with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire Saturday at Crew Stadium.

Chicago avoided being shut out, thanks to Dan Paladini finding an open Austin Berry for a 72nd minute goal.

Both teams are now 5-4-3 with 18 points and tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Koevermans Ends Toronto's Losing Streak

Danny Koeverman's goal off Nick Soolsma with two minutes left in the game ended Toronto FC's nine-game Major League Soccer losing streak and extended the Philadelphia Union's five-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory Saturday at BMO Field.

Toronto, still last in the league and in the Eastern Conference standings at 1-9-0 with three points, is now off until June 16 at Sporting Kansas Ciry.

Dynamo Win MLS Cup Rematch At New Stadium

The Houston Dynamo remained undefeated at new BBVA Compass Stadium after three games and extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 2-1 victory over the defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy in a rematch of the 2011 MLS Cup championship game.

The Galaxy, meanwhile, are winless in their last seven games, have lost three in a row five of their last six games.

Edson Buddle scored a goal for the first time in ten games to start the Galaxy off in the tenth minute off assists from Chad Barrett and David Beckham, but an own goal by Mike Magee leveled the game at 1-1.

Andre Hainault had the game-winning 57th minute goal from Brad Davis for the victory.

The Dynamo are 4-3-4 with 16 points and are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Houston faces the North American Soccer League's San Antonio Scorpions this Tuesday at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, TX in a third round game of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament, then travels to BC Place next Sunday to meet the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Breakers Lead WPSL Elite With Victory Over Flash

The Boston Breakers now lead the new Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League at 4-0-0 with 12 points as Katie Schoepfer's hat trick carried them to a 3-2 victory over the Western New York Flash  Saturday at Boston's Dilboy Stadium.

Adriana assisted Angels Salem on a goal in the 49th minute and had an unassisted strike in the 82nd minute for the Flash's points.

Boston is 4-0-0 with 12 points and hits the road Friday to play FC Indiana and next Sunday to meet the Chicago Red Stars.

Red Stars Keep FC Indiana Winless In WPSL Elite

Lauren Fowlkes and Lori Chalupny scored goals off assists from Alyssa Mautz and Vanessa DiBernardo in the sixth and 64th minute, respectively, as the Chicago Red Stars shut out FC Indiana 2-0 Friday in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League play at South Bend, IN.

The Red Stars, at 2-0-0 with six points, are tied for second place in the eight-team league with the New York Fury (2-1-0) and will host the league-leading Boston Breakers next Sunday.

FC Indiana is in last place, having lost their first four games, and will host the Breakers this Friday.

Anyanwu Leads Piranhas Feeding Frenzy Over Dutch Lions

Esther Anyanwu scored two goals and assisted on a third by Jamie Clarke as the host Virginia Beach Piranhas defeated the expansion Dayton Dutch Lions 3-1 Saturday in USL W-League play at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

Sarah VanderBrink had Dayton's goal in the 27th minute off a Kelsey Zwergel feed.

Virginia Beach is now 1-2-0 with three points and tied with DC United Women (1-0-0) for second place in the Eastern Cinference's Atlantic Division. They will host the Northern Virginia Majestics Friday.

The Dutch Lions lost their franchise debut and are tied for last place with the Majestics, also 0-1-0. Dayton hosts United Women this Saturday.

New Rapids Women Host Shutout Of Highlanders

Ode Fulutudili, Erin Gunther and Amanda McMullan scored goals as the host Colorado Rapids Women (formerly the Colorado Force) opened their 2012 USL W-League season at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO with a 3-0 victory over the Victoria Highlanders.

Colorado (1-0-0) and Victoria (1-3-0) each have three points, share third place in the Western Conference's Western Division standings and will play against next Sunday in Victoria, British Columbia.

Before then, the Rapids Women travel to Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Friday.

Eagles Spread Wings In Win Over Cobras

Amanda Naeher, Leah Fortune, Samantha Huecker, Erin Wingo and Hannah Gmerek scored goals as the Charlotte Eagles defeated the expansion and host Central South Carolina Cobras 5-1 Saturday in USL W-League play from Younts Soccer Stadium.

Tabitha Padgett scored the lone Cobras goal off a Tashona Vincent assist.

With the win, the Eagles now lead the Eastern Conference - Southeast Division at 3-0-0 with nine points and share the most points in the league with the Western Conference - Western Division's Colorado Rush (same record). Charlotte hosts the new FC Jax Destroyers this Saturday.

Central South Carolina is 0-2-2 with two points and in third place in the division. The Cobras meet the defending league champion Atlanta Silverbacks this Saturday at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.

Gorry Goal Sends Fury To Victory Over Ravens

Katrina-Lee Gorry's unassisted goal led the Ottawa Fury to a 1-0 season-opening USL W-League road victory Saturday over the Rochester Ravens at Aquinas Institute.

The Fury, with their three points, are tied with the Toronto Lady Lynx (same record) for second place in the Central Conference's Central Division. Ottawa faces Hamilton FC Rage on the road Sunday.

Rochester, losers of their first three games, is in last place and host the Lady Lynx Wednesday.

Galanti Brace Powers Rangers Over Magic In W-League Play

Gabrielle Galanti's brace was all the scoring the host New Jersey Rangers needed in a 2-0 shutout of the New York Magic Saturday in USL W-League play from Morris Catholic High School for their first win of the 2012 season.

The Rangers (1-2-0, three points) are now second in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division and will host intrastate rival New Jersey Wildcats this Saturday.

The Magic (0-1-1, one point) are tied for last with the North Jersey Valkyries (0-0-1) and host the Long Island Rough Riders this Saturday.

Patriots Play Jesters To 2-2 Draw

The host El Paso Patriots played the New Orleans Jesters to a 2-2 draw Saturday in USL Premier Development League action from Patriots Stadium.

El Paso's goals came in the 16th minute from Tony Judice (assisted by Patrick Mullin) and in the 59th minute by Emmanuel Yamson, while Ernesto Bolivar (from Naoyas Aizawa) and Sergio Villasenor (from Enrique Cervantes) did so for New Orleans in the 20th and 38th minute.

The Patriots hold onto second place in the Southern Conference - Mid-South Division at 2-2-2 with eight points and will host the West Texas Sockers June 9.

New Orleans is now 1-1-1 with four points and is tied for fourth place with the Sockers (1-2-1). The Jesters will travel to the division and league co-leading Austin Aztex for games Friday and Saturday.

Fuego, Cougars Tie In Provo

The Fresno Fuego and the BYU Cougars of the USL Premier Development League played to a 1-1 draw Saturday at South Field in Provo, UT.

Andrew Campbell put the Fuego on the board first with an unassisted 48th minute goal, but the Cougars leveled the score in the 70th minute when Doug Clark fed a pass to David Gates.

The Fuego, at 3-1-3 with 12 points, are tied for the lead in the Western Conference's Southwest Division with the Orange County Blue Star (3-0-3) and both teams share the league's most points with the Portland Timbers of the Western Conference - Northwest Division (4-0-0) and the Austin Aztex of the Southern Conference - Mid-South Division (4-1-0). Fresno plays host to the Ventura County Fusion Thursday.

BYU is 0-0-2 with two points and is tied for seventh in their division with the Pali Blues (0-3-2), whom they play on the road Friday before facing the Southern California Seahorses.

Ochieng Hat Trick Leads Brilla To Win Over Destroyers

Chris Ochieng had a hat trick, Phillip Buffington had a goal and three assists, and Devon Fisher and Felipe Silva each had a goal and an assist as the host Mississippi Brilla manhandled the FC Jax Destroyers 6-2 Saturday in USL Premier Development League play at Harper Davis Field at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.

Outlaws Get First PDL Win By Hosting Misioneros

Kyle Christensen scored off a Matt Kuehl assist in the 44th minute and assisted Jordan Roylance on a goal four minutes later as the host Ogden Outlaws edged expansion LA Misionero FC 2-1 Saturday in USL Premier Development League play at Bonneville High School for their first win of the season.

Rene Anguiano had Los Angeles' goal in the 78th minute off Jamie Chavez.

Ogden is 1-2-1 with four points, good for sixth place in the Western Conference's Southwest Division, and will hit the road this weekend to play the Southern California Seahorses Friday and the Pali Blues next Saturday.

Hydra Wins On Junior's Goal

Alencar Junior's unassisted 23rd minute goal gave the host and expansion Worcester Hydra a 1-0 victory over the Western Mass Pioneers in USL Premier Development League play at Foley Stadium Saturday.

Worcester is third in the Eastern Conference - Northeast Division at 2-1-1 with seven points, while the Pioneers (1-2-1, four points) are tied for fourth place with the GPS Portland Phoenix (1-0-1) and the expansion Boston Victory (1-3-1).

Phantoms Scare The Fury

Kenny Doublette assisted on goals by Yannick Kabala in the fourth minute and Dylan George in the 46th as the host Seacoast United Phantoms took the lead in the USL Premier Development League's Eastern Conference - Northeast Division with a 3-1 win Saturday over the Ottawa Fury at Portsmouth High School.

Jordan Thomas connected with Ryan Dunn on a 32nd minute goal for the Phantoms, now 3-0-2 with 11 points.

Ottawa, meanwhile, lost their 2012 season opening game and are in last place in the division.

Both teams travels to the Vermont Voltage next -- Ottawa Wednesday, Seacoast United next Saturday.

Lovegrove Goal Gives Lions Victory Over Menace

Dean Lovegrove's unassisted, game-winning 78th minute goal led the host St. Louis Lions to a 2-1 USL Premier Development League victory Saturday at the Tony Glavin Complex over the Des Moines Menace, their first of the 2012 season.

Logan McDaniel scored in the fifth minute for the Menace, but Jamie Skillen connected with Gerard John-Williams on St. Louis' opening point in the 61st minute.

St. Louis is now 1-2-1 with four points and is in sixth place in the Central Conference's Heartland Division. The Lions will play a home-and-home series next week with the Springfield Demize, playing there Thursday before welcoming them next Saturday.

Phillips Game-Winner Helps Portland U-23s Beat Vancouver U-23s

Clark Phillips' unassisted, game-winning 75th minute goal helped the Portland Timbers U-23s remain undefeated in the USL Premier Development League's Western Conference - Northwest Division with a 2-1 victory Saturday at the University of British Columbia against the Vancouver Whitecaps U-23s.

Chris Harris put Portland on top in the 11th minute, but Vancouver's Gagandeep Dosanjh leveled the game at 1-1 eight minutes later.

Portland is 4-0-0 with 12 points and host Vancouver next Friday at JELD-WEN Field.

The Whitecaps U-23s, meanwhile, are 2-2-1 with seven points, tied for second place in the division with the Washington Crossfire (2-0-1) and travel to the Seattle Sounders U-23s Wednesday.

Orlando City Win Over Stampede Creates Three-Way Tie For PDL Division Lead

Will Frandsen, Andrew Helm and Moses Aduny scored goals as the Orlando City U-23s of the USL Premier Development League defeated the expansion Ocala Stampede 3-1 Saturday at Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, FL to create a three-way tie for the lead in the Southern Conference - Southeast Division.

Douglas Dos Santos scored for Ocala off a Carlos Araujo assist in the loss.

Orlando City (3-0-1) and Ocala (3-1-1) join IMG Bradenton Academics (3-1-1) in having ten points in the division standings.

Orlando City plays at IMG this Thursday, then at Ocala next Saturday. Ocala, meanwhile, hosts Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy this Tuesday.

Orlando City Holds On To Top Spot In USL PRO With Win Over Eagles

Jamie Watson and Matt Luzunairis scored goals with assists from Kevin Molino and Jerome Mechack, respectively, as Orlando City Soccer Club, the defending USL PRO champion, maintained their spot at the top of the standings table with a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Eagles Saturday at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Christian Meza had the lone Charlotte goal.

Orlando City is 7-0-2 with 23 points and faces Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City in Kansas City, KS Tuesday for a third round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup game, then returns to league play at the Wilmington Hammerheads next Saturday.

The Rochester Rhinos and the host Dayton Dutch Lions played to a 2-2 draw in USL PRO play Saturday at Miami Valley South Stadium.

Thomas McManus' 90th minute goal for Rochester off a Daniel Earls assist leveled the contest. Graciano Brito scored for the Rhinos in the 52nd minute via a Drew Cost pass to tie the game at 1-1.

Eli Gardner, assisted by Gibson Bardsley in the 34th minute, and Mettin Cooper, helped in the 64th minute by Gerrit-Jan Bartles, scored for the Dutch Lions.

Donovan Hat Trick Leads USMNT Over Scotland In Jacksonville

Landon Donovan, playing for the US Men's National Team for the first time in nine months, scored his second career hat trick in the state of Florida as he led them to a 5-1 victory over Scotland Saturday at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.

Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones added goals in the victory, improving their 2012 record to 4-0 after playing in the first game since a 1-0 win February 29 against Italy in Genoa.

The only blemish on the game was Scotland scoring on a own goal by the US' Geoff Cameron.

The US continues its five-game "tournament schedule" stretch Wednesday at FedEx Field in Landover, MD when they face Brazil.

Defending W-League Champs Put Out Flames In Atlanta

Bailey Powell, Kristin Burton, Elizabeth Guess and Nkese Udoh scored goals as the defending USL W-League champion Atlanta Silverbacks shut out the expansion VSU Tampa Flames 4-0 Friday at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.

Bolivar Blast Gives Patriots Win Over Sockers

Ernesto Bolivar's unassisted second-half stoppage time goal gave the host El Paso Patriots a 1-0 victory over the West Texas Sockers in USL Premier Development League play Friday at Patriots Stadium.

The Patriots are 2-2-1 with seven points and tied for second in the Southern Conference's Mid-South Division, while the Sockers are in third at 1-2-1 with four points.

Both teams next host the expansion Texas Dutch Lions -- El Paso this Thursday, West Texas next Saturday.

LeSeth, Piotrowski Lead Inferno Over Rovers

Jayson LeSeth assisted on goals by Alberto Lopez in the 23rd minute and Jakub Piotrowski in the 46th minute and Piotrowski teamed with Emir Zrne on the game's opening goal in the 17th minute as the host Chicago Inferno, an expansion team in the USL Premier Development League, beat the River City Rovers 3-1 Friday at Wheaton College.

The Inferno are 1-1-1 with four points and are tied for third in the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division with the Hamilton FC Rage. They will next face their intercity foe, the Chicago Fire, at Toyota Park this Wednesday.

Ace Gonya scored the Rovers' lone goal off a Peter May assist in the 28th minute.

River City, at 2-1-0 with six points, shares the division lead with Forest City London (2-0-0) and will take on the Cincinnati Kings on the road Wednesday.

Maciel Gives Metros Division Lead In Shutout Of King's Warriors

Paco Maciel had an unassisted 62nd minute goal and assisted on Charles Rodriguez's 76th minute strike as the host Nashville Metros assumed the lead in the USL Premier Development League's Eastern Conference - South Atlantic Division with a 3-0 shutout of the expansion Southern West Virginia King's Warriors Friday at Belmont University's E.S. Rose Park.

Andrew Nkurunungi also had an unassisted goal in the 84th minute.

Nashville, 3-1-0 with nine points, hosts the Real Maryland Monarchs Sunday.

Southern West Virginia is 0-3-1 with a point and shares the same last place record with the Virginia Beach Piranhas. They will host the Northern Virginia Royals next Saturday.

Forest City London Ties For Division Lead, Beats Lynx

Forest City London moved into a tie for the lead with the River City Rovers in the USL Premier Development League's Central Conference - Great Lakes Division with a 4-1 home win Friday against the Toronto Lynx at the German Club.

Martin Lange had a pair of goals and Thomas Owens and Jordan Ayris each had a goal and an assist as they improved to 2-0-0 on the season. Forest City travels to Hamilton FC Rage this Wednesday.

Toronto, winless in its first three games of the season, are tied for last place in the division with the Chicago Fire and the Cincinnati Kings, both of whom lost their season openers. The Lynx will be at the expansion Chicago Inferno this Friday.

Demize Domnates Brass In USL PDL Play

Alfredo Quesada had a goal and an assist and Colin Helmrich, Drew Edmont and Jose Esparza added solo goals as the host Springfield Demize defeated the Kansas City Brass Friday 4-1 in USL Premier Development League play at Cooper Sports Complex.

Trent Remmich assisted Jordan Green on Kansas City's lone goal.

With the win, the Demize (3-1-0, nine points) are tied for the lead in the Central Conference's Heartland Division with the Real Colorado Foxes (2-1-3). Springfield next hosts the St. Louis Lions this Thursday.

The Brass, who have lost their opening two games this season, is off until June 9, when they play the Des Moines Menace at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, IA.

Finley Brace Leads Reading United To Win Over Spartans

Ryan Finley scored a pair of goals and Pedro Ribeiro added a third as host Reading United shut out the Central Jersey Spartans 3-0 Friday in USL PRO play at Albright College and moved into a tie with the Brooklyn Knights, both 2-0-1 with seven points, for first place in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division.

United next faces the Knights for sole possession of first place Sunday in Brooklyn, NY.

The Spartans, 1-1-0 with three points, is tied for fifth with the Ocean City Nor'easters (same record), who they face on the road Sunday.

Chill Cools Off WSA Winnipeg In Season Opener

Sullivan Silva had two goals and an assist and Juan Rodriguez had a goal and three assists as the host Thunder Bay Chill opened their 2012 USL Premier Development League season Friday with a 5-0 rout of WSA Winnipeg at Chapples Park, where the two teams meet again Saturday.

Thunder Bay (1-0-0, three points) is in fifth place in the Central Conference's Heartland Division standings and WSA Winnipeg is in fourth place with a 1-1-3 record and six points.

CFC Azul Beats Victory Negro And Azul

Ryan Kinne and Mario DiMecili scored two goals each and Markus Naglestad added a goal and three assists as host CFC Azul shut out the Boston Victory 6-0 Friday in USL Premier Development League play from East Haven High School between two of the league's expansion teams.

Azul moved to second in the league's Eastern Conference - Northeast Division standings with their first victory of their existence and a 1-1-2 record with five points. They will host the Vermont Voltage Saturday.

Boston, 1-3-1 with four points, is tied for third place with the GPS Portland Phoenix (1-0-1) and the Western Mass Pioneers and expansion Worcester Hydra (both 1-1-1) and travel to the Ottawa Fury next Saturday.

City Islanders End Rhinos Unbeaten Streak

The Rochester Rhinos saw their seven-game USL PRO unbeaten streak to start the season end Friday as J.T. Noone assisted Morgan Langley on a 48th minute goal as the host Harrisburg City Islanders shut them out 1-0 Friday at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, PA.

Rochester is now 6-1-1 with 19 points and is in second place in the league standings. The Rhinos travel to Miami Valley South Stadium Saturday to face the last-place Dayton Dutch Lions.

Harrisburg, 3-1-3 with 12 points, is tied for third with the Charleston Battery (4-2-0) and will host the Richmond Kickers next Friday.

Seattle's Alonso Suspended, Fined For Tackle On Crew's Grossman

Stating that head referee Geoff Gamble failed to issue a penalty at the time of the incident, Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee announced Friday Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for a two-footed, studs-exposed tackle on Columbus Crew player Cole Grossman in a 2-0 loss Wednesday, the Crew's first franchise win ever at CenturyLink Field.

He will miss this Saturday's game at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA and a June 16 road game against the Montreal Impact.

Galaxy Sees Jimenez Suspended, Places Cristman On DL Again

Major League Soccer's defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy announced Friday they will be without midfielder Hector Jimenez and forward Adam Cristman for several games.

Jimenez was suspended an additional game and fined an additional undisclosed amount after the league's Disciplinary Committee after he viciously tackled Steven Beitashour of the San Jose Earthquakes in the 59th minute of a 3-2 loss Wednesday at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Jimenez was ejected from the game, which carries an automatic one-game suspension and fine, for the incident, was originally set to miss Saturday's road game at the Houston Dynamo, but the committee, who has the power to review all video footage of fouls during games and issue additional punishment, if warranted, voted to deny him the ability to compete in Los Angeles' home game June 17 against the Portland Timbers.

Cristman, meanwhile, has been placed on the team's Disabled List for the second time this season with a concussion suffered during the 2012 preseason in a match against the New York Red Bulls and will have to miss a minimum six regular season games.

He will be able to compete for the Galaxy in Tuesday's third round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match against the Carolina RailHawks at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC or any MLS Reserve League games during that time and can return to Los Angeles' league roster July 8 at the Chicago Fire.

After sitting out the first six games of the 2012 season by being on the Disabled List, Cristman debuted for Los Angeles April 28, assisting on a goal by Pat Noonan in a 1-1 draw to FC Dallas. He started LA's next game May 2 against the Seattle Sounders, an eventual 2-0 loss, and has not played for the Galaxy since.

USMNT Names Roster For Next Five Games

US Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced a 23-player roster for the team's upcoming five-game, tournament-style stretch, beginning Saturday at Everbank Field in Jacksonville with a friendly game against Scotland, after holding a training camp at ESPN's Wide World Of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

After Saturday's game, the USMNT heads to Landover, MD's FedEx Field for a friendly this Wednesday against Brazil, then goes to BMO Field in Toronto to take on Canada next Sunday.

After that, the USMNT begins final round play in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with games June 8 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa against Antigua and Barbuda and June 13 at Guatemala.

DC United Loans Dykstra Again To Battery

For the second time this season, Major League Soccer's DC United announced Friday they have loaned goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra to the Charleston Battery of USL PRO, this time through June 10.

During that time, he will play in league games Saturday against the Los Angeles Blues at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, this Thursday at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, PA against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, June 2 at Miami Valley South Stadium in Dayton, OH against the Dayton Dutch Lions, and June 9 at the Florida Citrus Bowl against the defending league champion Orlando City Soccer Club, as well as in a third round 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament game against MLS' New York Red Bulls at Blackbaud Stadium this Tuesday.

If the Battery wins their game Tuesday, they would then either host MLS' New England Revolution June 5 or travel to the USL PRO's Harrisburg City Islanders that night at Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, PA.

Earlier this season, Dykstra played in five games for Charleston, leading them to a 3-2-0 record during that stint.

Dykstra started 16 games for the Battery last season, leading USL PRO in goals against average at 0.98 and allowing 16 goals.

Dykstra also played for MLS' Chicago Fire in his career.

Montero, Gruenebaum Named MLS Week 11 Award Winners

Major League Soccer announced Friday fans selected Seattle Sounders forward Fredy Montero and Columbus Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenbaum winners of the Week 11 AT&T Goal of the Week and MLS Save of the Week competitions.

Montero, who won for the second time in the last three weeks (won it in Week 9), joins Los Angeles Galaxy defender David Beckham as the only two-time winners so far this season.

Montero received 34 percent of the vote for a 90th minute goal versus the Vancouver Whitecaps last Saturday, defeating runner-up Alan Gordon of the San Jose Earthquakes, who tallied 26 percent.

Justin Meram of the Columbus Crew was third with 25 percent, followed by Luiz Camargo of the Houston Dynamo (eight percent) and Alain Rochat of the Whitecaps (seven percent).

Gruenebaum, a frequent nominee throughout the season, finally earned his first award from the fans with 32.4 percent of the vote for stopping a potential goal by the Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski in the 22nd minute of their game last Saturday.

Last week's SOTW winner, Sean Johnson of the Chicago Fire, finished a close second with 27.32 percent, followed by Dan Kennedy of Chivas USA (21/45 percent), Matt Pickens of the Colorado Rapids (10.45 percent) and Kevin Hartman of FC Dallas (8.38 percent).

Bock Brace Keeps Rush Undefeated In W-League Play

A brace by Brittany Bock and goals from Kendall Johnson and Lindsay Horan led the host Colorado Rush to a 4-0 shutout of the Victoria Highlanders in USL Premier Development League play Thursday at Valor Christian High School.

The Rush lead the standings in the Western Conference's Western Division at 3-0-0 with nine points and are now off until June 10 when they host the Pali Blues.

Kal Herbert had an unassisted 64th minute goal, then assisted on a David Freeland shot for the goal in the 83rd minute as the host West Texas Sockers shut our the New Orleans Jesters 2-0 Thursday at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland, TX.

West Texas levels their record at 1-1-1 and four points, putting them in a tie for second place in the Southern Conference - Mid-South Division with the El Paso Patriots (1-2-1), whom they play on the road Friday.

New Orleans, tied for last place with a 1-1-0 record and three points with the Laredo Heat (same record) and the Texas Dutch Lions (1-3-0), travels to El Paso Saturday.

Manneh Quartet Carries Aztex Over TX Dutch Lions

Kekula Manneh scored four goals as the Austin Aztex shut out the new Texas Dutch Lions 7-0 in USL Premier Development League Thursday at House Park in Austin, TX.

Chuy Cortes had a goal and two assists in the victory and Ross Kelly and William Morse each added a goal.

The Aztex, at 4-1-0 with 12 points, lead the Southern Conference's Mid-South Division and share the most points this season with the Western Conference - Southwest Division-leading Orange County Blue Star.

Texas, a new affiliate of the USL PRO's Dayton Dutch Lions, is 1-3-0 with three points and tied for last place in the division with the New Orleans Jesters and Laredo Heat (both 1-1-0), who the Dutch Lions host Saturday.

Montoya Goal Gives Flames Win At IMG Academy

Eusebio Montoya's goal off a Jamie McGuinness assist gave expansion VSI Tampa Flames a 1-0 USL Premier Development League shutout Thursday over the host IMG Bradenton Academics at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, FL.

VSI improved to 3-2-0 with nine points, putting them in third place in the Southern Conference's Southeast Division. The Flames will travel to the expansion Ocala Stampede June 6.

IMG, at 3-1-1 with ten points, is tied for the lead in the division with the Stampede (3-0-1) and will faces the Panama City Beach Pirates this Sunday on the road.

Vickers To Evans (Twice) To Victory For Timbers U-23s Over Defending Champion Pumas

Cam Vickers assisted Steven Evans on goals in the 39th and 54th minute and had an earlier unassisted goal in the 34th minute to follow one a minute before by Andrew Ribeiro as the host Portland Timbers U-23s shut out the defending USL Premier Development League champion Kitsap Pumas 4-0 Thursday at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, OR.

The Timbers currently lead the Western Conference's Northwest Division with a 3-0-0 record and nine points and will travel Saturday to face the Vancouver Whitecaps U-23s.

Orlando City, Blues Play To 1-1 Draw, But Point Gives Orlando USL PRO Lead Back

The defending USL PRO champion Orlando City Soccer Club regained the top spot in the league rankings after a 1-1 draw at the Florida Citrus Bowl against the Los Angeles Blues Thursday.

Wes Allen gave Orlando the opening lead in the 22nd minute off an Anthony Pulis assist, but Los Angeles leveled the score for good three minutes later when Carlos Borja connected with Bright Dike on a goal.

Orlando City is now 6-0-2 with 20 points and hosts the Charlotte Eagles Saturday.

Los Angeles is 3-2-2 with 11 points and in fourth place in the standings. They will travel to Blackbaud Stadium Saturday to play the Charleston Battery.

Dynamo, Statoil Continue Partnership

Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo and local oil and gas company Statoil announced Thursday a long-term sponsorship agreement that sees Statoil become the official provider of products for the team and BBVA Compass Stadium.

Statoil has been in partnership with the Dynamo since 2008.

In the new deal, Statoil will host an Oil and Gas Technology Hub at the new downtown stadium and the stadium's northeast entrance had now been named Statoil Gate.

Valencia CF Shuts Out Timbers In Friendly

Artiz Aduriz's unassisted goal four minutes before halftime allowed Valencia CF of Spain's La Liga to shut down Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers 1-0 Wednesday in a friendly match at JELD-WEN Field.

The Timbers return to league play Saturday when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Breakers On Top Of WPSL Elite Standings After Beating Fury

Katie Schopfer and Tameka Butt had unassisted goals as the Boston Breakers took hold of first place in the new Women's Premier Soccer League Elite League standings with a 2-1 victory over the New York Fury, ruining New York's home season debut Wednesday at Hofstra University.

Merritt Mathias scored the Fury's lone point.

Boston, at 3-0-0 with nine points, hosts the Western New York Flash Saturday.

The North Jersey Valkyries opened their 2012 USL W-League season Wednesday with a 2-2 road draw against the New Jersey Wildcats at Lions Stadium at the College of New Jersey.

Nicole Driesse and Ashley Clarke had unassisted goals for the Valkyries, while Kristen Edmonds and Esmeralda Negron scored goals and Andrea Lopez and Christina Barthel provided assists.

The Wildcats, with two points in the Eastern Conference - Northeast Division standings on a pair of draws, are in second place, while the Valkyries are tied with the New York Magic for third with a draw and a point.

Both teams meet again, this time at the Valkyries' DePaul Catholic High School, this Wednesday.

Trio Of Goals Lead Blue Star To Win Over Seahorses

Unassisted goals by Nico Olsak, Miles Byass and Tyler Brant led the Orange County Blue Star to a 3-2 victory over the host Southern California Seahorses in USL Premier Development League play at Biola University Wednesday.

Daniel Chew opened the scoring for the Seahorses off a Ryan Shaw pass in the 25th minute and Southern California earned a point in the final minute of play off an Orange County own goal.

The Blue Star now lead the league and the Western Conference's Southwest Division at 3-0-3 with 12 points and will host Southern California this Tuesday.

Impact Signs First DP In Italian Forward De Vaio

Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact announced the signing Thursday of the franchise's first Designated Player in Italian forward Marco De Vaio. who has scored 142 goals in 342 games over seven teams in Italy's Serie A, including the last four seasons in Bologna, where, last season, he was the team's top scorer with ten goals and seven assists for 27 points in 37 games.

He also has scored twice over 14 games for his country's men's national team.
