Strikers Trades Nunez To Stars For Stewart

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League announced Tuesday they have traded forward Martin Nunez to the defending league champion Minnesota Stars FC in exchange for defender Jack Stewart.

Nunez had four goals and four assists with Fort Lauderdale last season.

He began his professional career in 2008 with the Carolina RailHawks, then in USL First Division, scoring five goals in 28 games that season, and was named a finalist for the league's Rookie of the Year award.

In 2009, he moved to the Puerto Rico Islanders, also in USL-1, where he led them to a Caribbean Football Union Championship.

Stewart had an assist in 15 appearances last season with Minnesota before being loaned to Major League Soccer's FC Dallas, where he scored his first goal in a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC in CONCACAF Champions League group play.

The tenth overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, Stewart also played for the RailHawks, Real Salt Lake in MLS, and Moss FK and Nybergsund in Norway and was an All-Big East Conference player in his junior and senior seasons at Notre Dame.
