The Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO Thursday announced the signings of two former members of Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls in defender Tyler Lassiter and goalkeeper Alex Horwath.
Lassiter, selected in the second round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of North Carolina State, had 12 goals in 73 career games with the Wolfpack, was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Freshman Team, and led the team in his senior season in goals (six) and assists (six), earning a place on the All-ACC Second Team.
He debuted with the Red Bulls in a 2-1 win over former USL PRO franchise FC New York in a June 28, 2011 game in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament, then was loaned two months later to the North American Soccer League's 2011 regular season champion Carolina RailHawks for the rest of the season.
Horwath signed with the league in April 2010 and joined the San Jose Earthquakes in August of that year to replace an injured player on the roster, then joined the Seattle Sounders in October for the rest of that season. He would sign with New York March 25, 2011 and debut the next day in a scoreless draw against the Columbus Crew.
