Third Time's The Charm For US Soccer -- Klinsmann Named New Men's Head Coach

CONCACAF Gold Cup Result Affects Mexico, US World Rankings Differently Than You May Think

If you thought that, with Mexico winning the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup 2-1 over the United States June 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, it would cause Mexico's ranking in the next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Men's Soccer Rankings, released Wednesday, to rise, while the US' ranking would fall, think again.

According to the new rankings, Mexico, who was ninth in the June poll, tumbled 11 spots to 20th in the world, but is still the highest ranked CONCACAF member.

The two countries will meet August 10 in a friendly match at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, excatly two weeks before the next world soccer rankings are announced August 24.

Looking at the new poll's top ten, the other big surprise, besides Mexico's downfall, was the rise for Uruguay, who defeated Paraguay 3-0 to win the 2011 Copa America title, from 18th to fifth.

Spain, the Netherlands and Germany remain the top three teams in the world in the new poll with Brazil moving up one spot to fourth.
