3...2...1...BOOM! Blast Ends Wave's Season Opening Winning Streak At Eight In Battle Of MISL Division Leaders

In a battle of division leaders in the Major Indoor Soccer League, the Eastern-leading and defending league regular season champion Baltimore Blast defeated the Milwaukee Wave, leader of the Central Division, 9-4 Saturday in the teams' annual New Year's Eve game at US Cellular Arena to end the Wave's season-opening winning streak at eight games.

Milwaukee led 4-0 after the first quarter on two-point goals by Guiliano Oliveiro and Nicholas Perera, but Baltimore's Max Ferdinard cut the lead in half with his goal with 4:45 left in the quarter.

The Wave never scored again as JT Noone and Stephen DeRoux had goals in the second and third quarters, respectively, to take a 6-4 Blast lead, then Baltimore put the final nail in the coffin on Pat Healey's three-point goal with 2:20 left to play in the fourth quarter.

Baltimore is now 8-3 and will host the second place Syracuse Silver Knights (6-6) at First Mariner Arena this Friday in a match of the Eastern Division's top two teams.

Despite the loss, the Wave still hold the best record in the league at 8-1 and will host the Missouri Comets next Saturday.
