Danny Koevermans scored goals off assists from Ashtone Morgan in the 52nd minute and Richard Eckersley and Nick Soolsman eight minutes later as Toronto FC edged the defending Major League Soccer champion Colorado Rapids 2-1 Saturday afternoon at BMO Field and extended their unbeaten streak to three games.
Toronto is now 6-12-12 with 30 points and in sole possession of seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They will now return to play in the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League this Tuesday when they host Panama's Tauro, then head to Chivas USA's The Home Depot Center for MLS play next Saturday.
The Rapids, who have lost three straight games and are winless in their last four, saw Sanna Nyassi score an unassisted gol in the 70th minute and are 10-9-11 with 41 points, fifth place in the Western Conference. Colorado will host Real Espana in CCL group phase play Wednesday, then hosts the San Jose Earthquakes next Saturday.
