Islanders Draw To Impact, But Clinch Second Place In League, First Round Bye

Jonathan Fana's penalty kick in the final minute of regulation gave the host Puerto Rico Islanders a 1-1 draw to the Montreal Impact Wednesday at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon and clinched second place in the North American Soccer League standings, which earns them a first round bye in the upcoming six-team playoffs.

Ryan Pore opened the game's scoring for Montreal in the 88th minute off a Mignane Diouf assist.

Also, as a result of the tie and despite losing 1-0 to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Wednesday at Lockhart Stadium, the Carolina RailHawks officially won the league's first regular season championship.

The Islanders, 13-7-6 with 46 points, will host playoff-bound FC Tampa Bay Saturday.

The Impact, 6-11-8 with 26 points and in seventh place, four points behind the NSC Minnesota Stars for the last of six playoff berths, host the RailHawks Saturday.
