Alvaro Fernandez had two goals to lead the host Seattle Sounders to a 3-0 shutout of DC United Saturday in Major League Soccer play from CenturyLink Field, but the team will be without Mauro Rosales for some time after spraining a medial collateral ligament in a collision with United's Daniel Woolard.
Rosales teamed with Brad Evans to team on a 35th minute goal by Mike Fucito and with Fredy Montero on Fernandez's first in the 47th minute to tally a team record 12 assists on the season.
Fernandez's second goal in the 60th minute was unassisted.
Seattle is in second place in the Western Conference standings at 14-6-9 with 51 points. The Sounders welcome Herediano of Costa Rica to town Tuesday for a 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League griup phase game, then return to league play Saturday at the Vancouver Whitecaps, the worst team in the league this season.
DC United is 8-8-10 with 34 points and is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference heading into games they'll host against Chivas USA Wednesday and Real Salt Lake this Saturday.
