FC Tampa Bay clinched a quarterfinal home game in the North American Soccer League playoffs Saturday after a 1-1 draw with the NSC Minnesota Stars at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL Saturday and thanks to FC Edmonton losing earlier in the night to the Montreal Impact at Saputo Stadium.
The Stars scored in the 54th minute as Anthony Hamilton fed a pass to Brian Cvilikas, but Tampa Bay countered five minutes later when Mike Ambersley assisted Aaron King on a goal.
FC Tampa Bay is 10-8-8 with 38 points and tied for third in the standings with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (9-7-11). Tampa travels to the Puerto Rico Islanders for a game previously scheduled for September 10, but postponed due to Tropical Storm Maria, then host the Strikers Saturday to break the tie between two playoff-bound teams.
The NSC Stars hold the sixth and final spot in the playoffs with 33 points on an 8-10-9 record and will travel to the regular season champion Carolina RailHawks Saturday in their season finale.
