Citing a prior agreement between Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and US Soccer before the US Men's National Team announced its 24-man roster for two friendly matches set for this month, forward Landon Donovan will play in Friday's game against Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, but not in next Tuesday's game in Brussels against Belgium.
Donovan said he would prefer to stay with the Galaxy as they prepare for two MLS games -- on Labor Day at Sporting Kansas City and next Friday at home against the defending league champion Colorado Rapids -- and a CONCACAF Champions League game September 13 in Mexico against Morelia.
He joins Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman in choosing to play in only one of the two games, agreeing to join the team Sunday for the Belgium game, but staying in the States for Saturday's home game against the Philadephia Union at Rio Tinto Stadium.
