Dwayne De Rosario made Major League Soccer and DC United history Saturday by scoring the fastest hat trick in a 4-1 romp over Real Salt Lake at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC.
After assisting on a 13th minute goal by Andy Najar, De Rosario went to work, scoring his first goal in the 22nd minute off a Najar assist. Five minutes later, goal number two hit the back of the net, thanks to a feed from Josh Wolff and, four minutes after that, he topped it off with an unassisted play for a hat trick in nine minutes.
The trio of goals, his second hat trick of the season, also rocketed him into the lead for the Budweiser Golden Boot with 13 goals.
RSL's only output of the night came in the 86th minute as Paulo Araujo, Jr. assisted Alvaro Saborio on a goal.
DC United is now 9-8-11 with 38 points for sixth place in the Eastern Conference and will play on the road Thursday against the Philadelphia Union and next Sunday at the Columbus Crew.
RSL, who clinched an MLS playoff berth Friday for the fourth season in a row thanks to a 1-1 tie between the Union and Sporting Kansas City, hosts the Chicago Fire Wednesday, then faces the Los Angeles Galaxy next Saturday at The Home Depot Center.
