DC United's Pontius Could Miss Rest Of MLS Season

DC United midfielder Chris Pontius, who assisted alone or in part on all three goals scored by Charlie Davies in a shutout of Chivas USA Saturday at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, will likely miss the rest of the 2011 Major League Soccer season after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the tibia in his right ankle, the team announced Sunday.

He was injured after colliding with Chivas USA defender David Junior Lopes and was taken immediately to a local hospital, where X-rays confirmed the injury.

Pontius is the only United player to have taken part in all 25 games so far this season and is second on the team in goals with seven and leads the team in assists with five.
