Graham Zusi struck with two unasssisted blows in the 25th and 40th minute and former University of Michigan star Soony Saad scored his first Major League Soccer goal of his career in the 73rd minute as Sporting Kansas City defeafted the Portland Timbers Wednesday 3-1 at Livestrong Sporting Park.
Also scoring his first MLS goal Wednesday was Timbers star Bright Dike off an 81st minute assist by Rodney Wallace.
Kansas City is now 8-7-9 with 33 points in the Eastern Conference standings at third place, but are two points away from taking over second in the league from the Philadelphia Union (8-5-10, 34 points) and five behind the conference-leading Columbus Crew (10-7-7-, 37).
Portland is in seventh place in the Western Conference at 7-12-5 wth 26 points and hosts the worst team in the league this season, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Saturday.
