Major League Soccer announced Tuesday US Men's National Team forward Eddie Johnson signed a contract to return to the league for the first time in three seasons and his rights will be awarded in an allocation lottery Thursday.
Johnson, who signed to play with Fulham of the English Premier League in January 2008 and was loaned out to Cardiff (England's Coca Cola Championship), Aris (Greek Super League) and Preston North End (EPL) during his career, began in MLS in 2001 with FC Dallas, who selected him in the league's SuperDraft, where he scored 24 goals over 84 regular season games from 2001 to 2006.
He was then traded to the Kansas City Wizards, now Sporting Kansas City, in 2006 and scored 17 goals in 43 games over a season and a half of play before heading to Europe.
Chivas USA is the top team in the MLS allocation list, but they have passed on previous USMNT members returning to MLS in Benny Feilhaber and Freddy Adu.
