Ryan Johnson, acquired by Major League Soccer's Toronto FC in a recent trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, paid dividends for his new team Tuesday, scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over Nicaragua's Real Esteli at BMO Field and winning a 2011 CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round series by a 4-2 score.
The win, the first road win for Toronto in CCL play, advances them into a spot in Group C of pool play, which will begin in Panama August 18 in the first of six games between group members.
Johnson scored in the 37th and 47th minute of the game, while Manuel Rossa had Esteli's goals in first-half stoppage time.
