The Kitsap Pumas and the Victoria Highlanders, who finished as the top two teams in the 2011 USL Premier Development League standings in the Western Conference's Northwest Division, announced the departures of key personnel Tuesday.
The Pumas, who finished as the division champion at 12-1-3 with 35 points and won the conference championship last weekend 3-1 over the Fresno Fuego at Chukchansi Park, announced executive director Ben Pecora, the first hire of team owner Robin White in 2008, will step down after the team finished the USL PDL playoffs.
Pecora brought nearly 20 years experience in sales, sports marketing, special events management, media and public relations, communications and non-profit and business management experience to the team, including three years spent with the Seattle Sounders in the A-League in the 1990's.
Kitsap will take on the Central Conference champion Thunder Bay Chill Friday in one of two 2011 USL Championship Weekend presented by Umbro semifinal games at Bremerton Memorial Stadium, the Pumas' home pitch, and will face the winner of the other matchup between the Eastern Conference Champion Long Island Rough Riders and the Southern Conference champion Laredo Heat in the championship final Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Victoria Highlanders, who finished second in the division at 9-4-3 with 30 points and qualified for the league playoffs for the first time in their four-season existence, but lost to the Fuego in the Western Conference semifinal last week at Fresno, announced vice president and general manager Drew Finerty was leaving the franchise.
