The expansion Syracuse Silver Knights of the Major Indoor Soccer League named local stars Tommy Tanner, Joe Papaleo and Ryan Hall as head coach, goalkeeping coach and player-coach, respectively, at a press conference Thursday.
Tanner played 14 seasons between the Cleveland Crunch in the MISL and the Rochester Raging Rhinos and Syracuse Salty Dogs in the USL First Division and was on seven of 13 championship teams. He was also named 1991-92 MISL Rookie of the Year.
He is currently president of Empire United Soccer Academy.
Papaleo played collegiately at Syarcuse and was a two-time MISL Goalkeeper of the Year in 1991 and 1993. He is currently a coach at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse.
Hall, also an alumnus of the Orange, started for Syracuse from 1999 to 2002 and served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. He played two seasons for the Salty Dogs in the USL A-League and was drafted in 2002 by the Cleveland Force, where he played for six seasons and was named the league's Player of the Week seven times in his career.
He had been the director of coaching for the last two years with the Team Challenge Columbus Crew Juniors North.
