Silverbacks Sign Midfielder Nico Colaluca

The Atlanta Silverbacks, the worst team in the North American Soccer League, announced the signing Wednesday of midfielder Nico Colaluca, who last played 10 overall games with Norby IF in Sweden's second division, scoring two goals.

Colaluca was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids out of the University of Virginia, where he played two seasons.

He played in four games with the Rapids and was a teammate of now-Silverbacks midfielder Ciaran O'Brien, but was traded to the New England Revolution in 2009.

He played in seven overall games at New England but spent three games of the 2009 season on loan to the Western Mass Pioneers of the USL Premier Development League.

At Virginia, Cololuca was named to the 2004 Freshman All-American team, as well as the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and All-ACC All-Freshman Team.

He also played offseason in the PDL with the Rhode Island Stingrays.
