Goalkeeper Eric Ati became the first player from a North American Soccer League franchise to be signed from the team's auxilliary team Tuesday when the last-place Atlanta Silverbacks selected him from the National Premier Soccer League's Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves.
A native of Cameroon whose family moved to Atlanta at age seven, he was a four-year starter at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, GA, where he was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America First Team All-American in 2010.
He led the 2010 team to an undefeated record in their conference and beat defending NCAA Division II champion Lindsey Wilson College in the playoffs. Atl was also an NPSL Southeastern Division All-Star.
The Silverbacks also announced that, due to a breach of contract, they have released forward Emsad Zahirance.
