The Seattle Sounders Friday traded a third round 2012 Major League Soccer SuperDraft pick to the Chicago Fire in exchange for swapping spots in the league's allocation lottery order to gain the rights to former US U-20 and U-23 national team player Sammy Ochoa.
Seattle, who was sixth in the order, took Chicago's fourth spot and gained Ochoa when the top three teams in the order -- Chivas USA, the Houston Dyanmo and Toronto FC -- chose to pass on taking him.
At the Sounders, Ochoa will be reunited with head coach Sigi Schmid, who served in a similar role on the US U-20 team. He also played for current Philadelphia Union head coach Peter Nowak on the US U-23 team.
Ochoa worked out for the Sounders this June and played as a guest in several MLS Reserve League games.
