Caleb Folan and Jeff Larentowicz scored goals as the defending Major League Soccer champion Colorado Rapids handed the host San Jose Earthquakes their 11th straight defeat in a 2-1 victory Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
Joey Gjertsen had the lone goal for the Earthquakes.
Colorado is in fourth place in the Western Conference at 10-6-10 with 40 points, but, before returning to MLS play next Saturday when they host Chivas USA, the Rapids open 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League play Wednesday with an opening game in Group B play against Metapan of El Salvador.
San Jose is 5-9-10 with 25 points and in eighth place in the Western standings. The Earthquakes next face the conference's and league's best team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, next Saturday at The Home Depot Center.
