Etienne Barbara had an unassisted goal in the 28th minute and converted penalty kicks in the 79th and 90th minute as the Carolia RailHawks, the best team in the North American Soccer League tied a club record for wins, set a new record for goals scored in a season and clinched a first round playoff bye in a 4-2 beating of the last-place Atlanta Silverbacks Saturday at Silverbacks Park.
Barbara now has 20 goals this season and the RailHawks earned their fifth hat trick in team history and their first since July 2009.
The team tied the single-season win matk of 16, last set in 2009 when they were with the USL First Division, and scrored 47 goals so far this season.
Carolina is 16-3-4 with 51 points to lead the league standings and the RailHawks will host FC Tampa Bay next Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC.
Atlanta is 3-17-3 wth 12 points and will host the Puerto Rico Islanders next Saturday.
