NASL Announces New Policy Regarding Player Concussion

Based on a similar move by Major League Soccer, the North American Soccer League announced Tuesday they now have a policy, effective immediately, regarding any player who suffers from a concussion, either during a pratice or a regular season game.

Previously, each NASL franchises' have their own policies on the matter; the new policy gives off uniformity.

All players will now have to undergo a baseline neuropsychological test.

During a game, if any player is suspected of sustaining a concussion, that player will be removed from the field of play and be immediately evaulated by team personnel.

Should that player be diagnosed with a concussion, the player will be removed from the field and is out for the rest of the game.

For a player to be allowed to return to playing, the player will undergo post-concussion tests and must score at or above the normal range from his baseline test before being cleared by the team's doctor.
