MLS Announces MLS Cup Playoff Schedule

Major League Soccer announced the schedule Tuesday for the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs, which will start October 26 and end with the championship game November 20 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Ten teams will qualify for the playoffs -- the top three teams in the Eastern and Western Conference, who gets byes into the conference semifinal round, and the next four teams, regardless or conference, who will face off in single-elimination wild card games.

The wild card games will be held October 26 and 27, with those winners heading to the two-leg, aggregate-goal conference semifinals (Leg 1 - October 29 and 20, Leg 2 - November 2 and 3).

Semifinal winners will meet in the single-elimination conference championship games November 5 and 6, then the playoffs take a break to allow for FIFA-sanctioned games to take place November 13 and 15 before the league championship is played.
