Loyd, Pearce Out For USMNT Due To Injuries; Pontius, Spector Added To Roster

US Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced Monday defenders Chris Pontius of Major League Soccer's DC United and Jonathan Spector of Birmingham City of the English Premier League have replaced injured defenders Zach Loyd of FC Dallas and Heath Pierce of Chivas USA on the roster for Friday's friendly match against Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

Loyd strained his right hamstring Saturday in a come-from-behind 3-2 FC Dallas win over Sporting Kansas City and Pierce suffered a hamstring sprain the same night and left a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake in the 61st minute.

Klinsmann also announced midfielder Clint Dempsey of Fulham in the EPL, who was on the roster for Friday's game and next Tuesday's friendly in Brussels against Belgium, will stay in London to receive treatment for back spasms and will meet the teams in Brussels this Sunday.
