Klinsmann Era Opens In USMNT With Draw To Mexico

The era of Jurgen Klinsmann as the new head coach of the US Men's National Team ended Wednesday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia with a 1-1 draw to CONCACAF rival Mexico in a friendly game.

Having had to throw together a roster and play this game over a 10-day period, the US looked rather sloppy at first and Mexico took advantage as Andres Guardado assisted on a 17th minute set piece pass to Oribe Peralta for the 1-0 lead.

The US didn't register a single shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, but, in the second half, they did attempt a rally and Brek Shea of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas fed a shot to Robbie Rogers of the Columbus Crew in the 73rd minute for the game-tying goal.

Rogers, though, was denied the chance to give the US team a win when Jamaican referee Raymond Boyle failed to eject Mexico's Gerardo Torrado after he clearly pulled Rogers' jersey in the 86th minute as he attempted to score a goal.

The USMNT's next game will be September 2 against Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, followed by a September 6 trip to face Belgium.
