Impact Name Marsch To Become Team's Head Coach In MLS In 2012

The Montreal Impact, set to join Major League Soccer in the 2012 season after playing this season in the North American Soccer League, announced Wednesday former MLS player Jesse Marsch will become their head coach.

Marsch was an assistant coach on former US Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley's squad until Bradley's recent firing.

One of three players to compete in the first 14 MLS seasons, Marsch played for DC United, the Chicago Fire and Chivas USA and had 31 goals and 40 assists in 321 regular season games.

He led United to the first two MLS Cup championships in 1996 and 1997 and took the Fire, coached then by Bradley, to a 2000 MLS Cup championship victory.

Marsch also United (1996) and the Fire (1998, 2000, 2003) to Lamar Hunt US Open Cup championships.

He retired as a player in 2009.
