Andriy Budnyy's 77th minute goal off a Tom Parratt assist was the game winner as the host Wilmington Hammerheads edged the Los Angeles Blues 2-1 in USL PRO play Friday at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, NC for their fifth win in their last six games.
Manny Guzman scored first for Wilmington in the 31st minute off Luke Mulholland to take the eventual halftime lead but Peter Byars tied the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute as the Blues star hit an unassisted goal.
Wilmington is 13-6-3 with 42 points and in second place in the American Division, four points behind Orlando City Soccer Club (13-3-6, 45 points) for the division lead and to claim the best record in the league, however, a win by Orlando City Saturday against the Charleston Battery at the Florida Citrus Bowl will officially clinch the league's regular season championship.
The Hammerheads will end their 2011 home season this Wednesday against the Richmond Kickers.
Los Angeles, 8-6-7 with 31 points and in third place in the National Division, travels to Sticky Wicket Stadium for the last time this season Sunday to face Antigua Barracuda FC.
