Alan Gordon scored a 67th minute goal that puts his host San Jose Earthquakes into a 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers Saturday in Major League Soccer play at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, then announced after the game he would be undergoing surgery next week for a double hernia.
The Earthquakes, winless in the last 10 games, are 5-8-10 with 25 points, putting them eighth in the Western Conference standings and two points behind the Timbers (7-10-5, 26) for seventh place.
San Jose hosts the defending league champion Colorado Rapids this Saturday, while the Timbers are at the Houston Dynamo next Sunday.
