Former Carolina RailHawks player Martin Nunez stunned his ex-teammates by scoring the game-winning goal in second-half stoppage time as the host Fort Lauderdale Strikers upset the best team in the North American Soccer League with a 2-1 victory Saturday at Lockhart Stadium.
Walter Restrepo opened the scoring for the Strikers in the 38th minute for the eventual halftime lead, but John Krause evened the game at 1-1 on an unassisted 72nd minute play.
Fort Lauderdale is in sixth place in the league standings at 5-5-9 with 24 points and will travel to the NSC Minnesota Stars Wednesday.
The RailHawks, 14-3-2 with 44 points, are at the Puerto Rico Islanders next Saturday.
