Fernandez Goal Gives Sounders Win In Mexico Over Defending CCL Champion Monterrey

Assisted by Pat Noonan in the 19th minute, Alvaro Fernandez's goal gave Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders the lead in Group D play at the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League tournament with a 1-0 victory over defending champion Monterrey Tuesday at Technological Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.

It was Monterrey's first loss at home in CCL play.

The Sounders are 2-0-0 with six points in the six-round group phase and will next travel to Costa Rica to face Herediano September 14.

Seattle returns to MLS play Saturday when they play at the Columbus Crew.
