Major League Soccer's FC Dallas announced the signing Thursday of Colombian midfielder Daniel Cruz after he tried out last summer with the league's Houston Dynamo.
Cruz scored 12 goals in over 150 games for Germinal Beerschot in Belgium's top professional league, leading them as captain to the 2005 Belgian Cup title.
He grew up playing in the youth system of Cali's Academia de Futbol Tucuman, where he was discovered by a scout for AFC Ajax in the Netherlands at age 17 while he was training with America de Cali's first team.
After two years with Ajax's reserve team, Cruz debuted with the senior team in the 2000-01 season and played in 11 games before leaving for Belgium in 2003.
His father, Jose Luiz, played professionally for Club Atletico River Plate and America de Cali.
