Dynamo Holds Off Timbers Challenge

Adam Moffat's 17th minute unassisted goal and a Brian Ching score off assists from Colin Clark and Brad Davis in the 27th minute survived a late challenge in the 56th minute when Darlington Nagbe and Sal Zizzo assisted Jack Jewsbury on his team's lone goal as the host Houston Dynamo edged the Portland Timbers 2-1 Sunday in Major League Soccer play from Robertson Stadium in Houston.

The Dynamo, 7-7-10 with 31 points, is now tied for third place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Red Bulls (6-6-13) and will host Real Salt Lake Saturday.

Portland, alone in seventh place in the Western Conference at 7-11-5 with 26 points, will travel to Sporting Kansas City's Livestrong Sporting Park Wednesday, then will host the worst team in the conference and MLS, the Vancouver Whitecaps, Saturday at JELD-WEN Field.
