The Major Indoor Soccer League's Baltimore Blast announced the retirements Thursday of defender Billy Nelson and midfielder Robbie Aristodemo.
Nelson, who played for Baltimore's Bel Air High School and collegiately at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, was the 2002 MISL Rookie of the Year after having 20 goals and 20 assists.
At UMBC, he started all but one of 80 games there and was named the team's Unsung Hero in 2999 and to the All-Northeast Conference's Second Team in 2001.
With the Blast, he was on five MISL championship teams (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009) and has 130 points and 300 blocks in 292 career games.
Aristodemo, the team's captain the last two seasons, will now become the head varsity women's soccer coach and a health teacher at Montverde Academy in Orlando, FL.
He won three titles in six seasons the Blast after playing with the San Diego Sockers (2002-03) and the Cleveland Force (2004-05) and had 191 points in 143 games with Baltimore.
He also played on Canada's World Cup and Olympic soccer teams, as well as two FIFA Youth World Cup teams at the U-17 and U-20 level.
Aristodemo began his professional career in the A-League with the Toronto Lynx, where he played for five seasons, and was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 2001.
