The Vancouver Whitecaps Residency and the defending USL Premier Development League champion Portland Timbers U-23 played Sunday to a 2-2 draw at Portland's Hare Field.
Portland went up 2-0 on near back-to-back unassisted goals by Brent Richards and Ryan Kawulok in the 22nd and 28th minute, but Vancouver evened the contest when Portland's Ricky Abrego had an own goal and Vancouver's Bryce Alderson assisted Philippe Davies on a goal, both in the 38th minute.
Vancouver is in third place in the Western Conference - Northwest Division at 6-4-3 with 21 points, three points behind the Victoria Highlanders (7-4-2, 23) for sole possessional of second place. The Whitecaps will face the division-leading Kitsap Pumas Saturday at Bremerton High School Stadium.
Portland (5-5-3), tied for fourth in the division with the Abbotsford Mariners (5-6-3) with 18 points, takes on the Highlanders Saturday at Royal Athletic Park.
