Whitecaps Residency Beats Highlanders

The host Vancouver Whitecaps Residency defeated the Victoria Highlanders 3-1 Friday in USL Premier Development League play at Minori Oval Park.

Vancouver took a 2-0 lead on a Long Tan unassisted goal in the 27th minute, followed by Philipe Davies assisted Ben Fisk on a 33rd minute strike.

Victoria's lone goal came three minutes later when Paul Van Dem Boomen scored off an Ashley Burbeary pass.

The Whitecaps ended the game in the third minute of second-half stoppage time when Alex Morfau fed a pass to Caleb Clarke.

Vancouver, 5-3-2 with 17 points, is tied for third place in the Western Conference's Northwest Division with the defending conference and league champion Portland Timbers U-23s (5-4-2). The Whitecaps take on the Abbotsford Mariners Monday at Bateman Park.

Victoria is 6-4-2 with 24 points and is in second place. The Highlanders host the North Sound SeaWolves next Saturday at Bear Mountain Stadium.
