Timbers, Toronto Tie At JELD-WEN Field

The host Portland Timbers and Toronto FC played to a 2-2 draw Saturday in Major League Soccer play Saturday at JELD-WEN Field.

Portland opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Eddie Johnson scored his first goal for the Timbers off a Diego Chara pass for the eventual halftime lead, then saw captain Jack Jewsbury double the lead in the 57th minute on an unassisted strike.

Peri Marosevic, who signed this week with Toronto after being cut by FC Dallas, scored an unassisted goal in the 71st minute in his debut and Joao Plata assisted newcomer Danny Koevermans on an 81st minute goal.

Portland is now in eighth place in the Western Conference standings at 6-10-4 with 22 points and will host the best team in MLS and the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Galaxy, Wednesday, while Toronto, eighth in the Eastern Conference at 3-11-10 with 19 points, takes on DC United next Saturday at RFK Stadium.
