Sporting Kansas City won a weighted lottery Tuesday to obtain the Major League Soccer playing rights to former University of Michigan forward Soony Saad, who signed a league contract last weekend.
Saad had a school-record 19 goals as a freshman last season with the Wolverines, becoming the 2010 Big 10 Conference Player of the Year, then chose to leave school to pursue possible playing opportunities internationally before deciding to sign with MLS.
He was also the 2009 Gatorade High School Player of the Year and the 2008 Player of the Year with the US Soccer Development Academy. Saad also was a member of the 2008 national club champion Michigan Wolves.
